One Last Interruption
After they'd finished at the gazebo, the duo started back towards the entrance of the garden, hand in hand with content smiles upon their faces. It was a fairly decent amount of time to get there at the leisurely pace the two superheroes went at, stopping to admire the gorgeous blossoms that were so lovingly tended to besides the stone trail. As they rounded the last bend in the trail that brought them back to the door leading outside into the real world, Wasp laughing at a joke Carol had made, neither one of them were exactly aware that they were no longer alone.
"Wait, you really did go to Asgard?" Carol asked with impress.
"Yup." Boasted Wasp. "And I've got the armor to prove it." Smiled back Janet.
Carol's eyes swept up the black dressed woman's body. "Hmm I bet you looked sexy in it too."
"Maybe I'll try it on for you sometime then." Teased Janet suggestively, leaning in closer to the blonde. Both of them had stopped walking, Carol's arms moving to wrap themselves around Janet's waist, lips just a few centimeters apart.
"I certainly would like that." Purred back Carol.
"I bet you would."
A moment before their lips met, the pair found themselves being launched across the gardens floor by a tremendous gust of wind. Carol's grasp on Janet tightened, protectively pulling her towards herself as they skidded across the ground. The moment they stopped, which was a rather decent twenty feet away from where they had just been standing, the pair sprung up ready for action. Wasp sized back down into her smaller form, yellow wings fluttering as energy formed around her hands. Ms. Marvel being without her suit ready on hand, simply began to glow yellow and kicked off her heels.
"Alright, who's the idiot that decided to piss me off?" Snarled Carol, absolutely furious that their date had been soiled once again. If it were any of their fellow Avengers' fault, the woman wasn't quite certain just what she'd do.
"I'm not certain I'm the idiot when you're the one prancing around expecting everything to go right hero." Came a voice that instantly made Janet's eyes widen with shock.
"Whirlwind?" The auburn haired superhero gasped, her flight stalling for a moment or two. "Seriously!" She then shouted angrily, Ms. Marvel looking over at her hoping for an explanation. Before the size-shifter could say a thing, a man in green metal-plate armor came out before them, a whirlwind of air from his waist down elevating him a few feet in the air. Little of his face could be seen except for blue eyes that peered at them from behind a pointed helm. "Of all the days you had to break out of prison now is the day?"
The criminal chuckled, shaking his head back and forth. "You know I can't resist trying to kill you for very long."
Still Janet questioned, too confused to spring right into action like Carol was ready to do. "What are you doing here?"
"Well how could I resist when I see the marvelous Wasp and some pretty blonde together walking into this place? You two were so wrapped up in each other to even notice me follow you in!" He laughed tauntingly. "Some heroes."
"Alright, well, time to put you back where you belong!" Said Carol as she started flying towards him, taking off full force and ramming into the metal plated man dead-on. He grunted, the breastplate denting inwards from the impact, and then brought a fist around towards her. Saw blades whirred on his wrists, Carol ducking her head just before it would have met with her neck.
Wasp zoomed right over towards them, the energy that had formed in her hands discharging and hitting him right in the left eye. Whirlwind shouted out in anger, wildly flailing his arms to get them to back off for a moment, Carol moving this way and that to avoid getting cut. Janet flew past him, banked tight to the right and then came back around firing her energy blasts right into his other eye.
Whirlwind shook his head, crying out in fury, and began to shake his hands towards them both, a vortex of wind spiraling out and blasting against them. Wasp's small wings couldn't keep up against the mighty wind, and she was suddenly caught up in it like a loose leaf. "Wasp!" Shouted Ms. Marvel, having grounded herself against the earth, arms up to protect her face and trying to resist the vortex herself. "Hold on!" Carol called out, focusing as much strength into her legs as she could before taking off in a single burst, snatching Janet from the wind that jostled her about like a toy.
"He's a lot stronger then last time I fought him." Panted Wasp, Carol holding her carefully. Whirlwind cackled, twisting around to look at where Carol had landed and raising his arms up. Ms. Marvel was expecting him to begin to create another vortex, but instead the saw blades that rested on his wrists detached themselves and with a gust of wind, he sent them flying right at them.
"Sorry Jan!" Carol said quickly as she dropped the auburn haired woman and raised her hands, yellow energy of her own collecting and firing in a few quick moments. The saw blades melted, falling to the ground as a silvery goop.
Shouting in anger, Whirlwind started spinning his entire body, and moved towards them like a small twister. "Even without those blades, he touches us it'll hurt for sure!" Warned Janet, blue eyes trained on just how fast her was going towards them in the gardens.
"Just how often does this guy try to kill you?" Carol asked with agitation.
"Uh, it's actually been getting pretty regular." Sheepishly replied Janet, hovering a foot away from the yellow glowing woman, blue eyes a fearsome white.
"And you didn't once think about telling the others? Not even me?" Snapped Ms. Marvel as she dashed to the right, avoiding the twister that was Whirlwind. Janet blasted energy stings at him, most of it deflecting off his metal suit of armor.
Her voice raised in her defense. "Hey! I've not once lost to him!"
Carol rolled her eyes, took off flying the best she could in the backless red dress she was wearing, and landed a solid punch through the vortex to hit Whirlwind right in the face. He was flying backwards, skidding across the ground before rolling onto his side and onto his feet. "How do you do this all the time?" Quizzically asked Carol.
"What, fight idiots like him?" Janet asked with a laugh as she zapped him more and more, Whirlwind finding that he really had gotten more then he'd asked for as the couple started to truly beat him.
"I'm right here!" He shouted angrily, blasting a vortex towards Wasp who rolled mid-flight to evade it.
"No- Okay sure there is that one -but I mean fight in a dress!" The blonde woman responded, finding herself pulling the dress she wore down to keep herself covered. Though if it had only been Wasp present she wouldn't have minded one bit, there was no way she wanted to expose herself to the mutant criminal they were seriously starting to put the hurt on.
Instantly Wasp was laughing quite a bit, landing behind Whirlwind and size-shifting back up to her normal size. "Well I wear leggings, that's key." She said, twisting around and blasting Whirlwind who had turned around in the face with a singular energy blast. "It's like wearing pants with a really long, sleeveless shirt." Whirlwind fell backwards, landing with a heavy thump, and moaned in pain on the ground.
Carol walked over, pulling the dress back to how it had more comfortably rested earlier, holding her heels between her left arm and side. "So, looks like we have to get this guy out to the police huh?" She said, starting to slip the shoes back on.
"I suppose so, though I'd have to do it alone." Janet agreed. "Seeing as you seem to lack everything but your mask."
"That is true." Said Carol, looking down at the man who was barely conscious in his suit of green armor. "Alright, I'll carry him though."
As Carol bent over to lift him up and throw him over her shoulder, Janet admiring her the entire time, a laugh came from Wasp. "Of course you will, you're nearly as strong as Hulk."
Rolling her eyes, Carol gave the woman a peck on the cheek before she started her way out, Janet following close behind, picking up her discarded clothing from where they rested. The beautiful gardens, at least in that particular clearing, were obliterated.
"Did you see the look on those poor officer's faces?" Laughed Janet as they rode back to her apartment complex in the limousine. "They didn't know what to think to find the Wasp standing there on the curb with Whirlwind all beaten up and a dress thrown over my shoulder."
"That sexy piece too no less." Chuckled Carol. "They probably thought that you and him were actually some kind of thing."
The once again re-dressed Janet shook her head. "Oh I don't feel too bad for them though, considering the location that was probably the highlight of their night."
Carol snorted in agreement, looking out the window for a moment before she looked back at the auburn haired beauty. "So, I gotta ask, was tonight despite everything that happened a good night?"
Janet blinked, a smile then spreading across her face. "Tonight was-" Her words were cut short as the limousine suddenly swerved heavily to the right, the sound of brakes screeching filling the air as they were pressed against the car door. Carol's gentle grasp on Janet's hand tightened and she pulled her against herself, twisting her back to face the way they were being flung to protect the far less durable woman. The sudden, dangerous jerks of the limo slowly started to level out, coming to a puttering stop in the middle of the road with the back nearly touching the curb.
They both stayed there for a moment, trying to catch their breath as the immediate danger passed, before the driver came running back and opened the door. "Are you two ladies alright?" He asked, brown eyes wide with alarm, voice a heavy New Yorker accent.
"Yeah, I think so." Said back Carol as she gently let go of Janet, the woman sitting herself back up and climbing out of the car, the blonde following a moment later. "What happened?"
He shrugged wildly. "The craziest thing! I was driving you two back to her apartment as you requested Ms. Danvers, when the wheels just blow out!" As he spoke, he gestured towards the front wheels which were utterly destroyed. "I can call up a cab for you if you'd like ma'am." He suggested.
Carol looked at Janet, and then shook her head. "No, that won't be necessary. We're probably only a block or two away from her home now right?"
"Yes about a block, just round the corner almost." He agreed. "Well, if you two are gonna walk then I wish you the best of luck." With that he tipped his hat, and pulled out his phone to call a tow-truck.
"Stay safe." Janet called over her shoulder as they started walking away. Hands quickly went to clasp the other, the duo walking down a busy street sidewalk as people stopped to gawk at the limo stopped in the middle of the road. They were silent as they kept on down the street until they'd cleared out of the bulk of pedestrians, rounding a corner that put them at just a few streets away from Janet's apartment building.
As they kept down the street, Janet was looking around admiring the familiar setting. "Wanna play another game?" She asked without looking back, blue eyes trained on something up ahead.
"Sure, what are we playing?" Carol agreed curiously. With Janet it hardly ever seemed they ran out of things to do, something that Ms. Marvel certainly adored about her date.
"Twenty questions?" Suggested the shorter woman.
"Alright, you're asking me first." Carol agreed, Janet nodding her head. Giving an over the top expression of pondering, Carol gained a giggle from Janet before she nodded her head. "Alright, got it."
Janet quickly started asking questions. "Is it a human?"
"Yes."
"Is it a girl?"
"Yes." Smiled Carol.
"Is she tall?" Came the follow-up question, the duo dodging a manhole in the middle of the street they were crossing.
"Nope." Chuckled Ms. Marvel.
"Do I know her?" They turned across another street over the crosswalk.
"Yes."
"Is she blonde?"
"Not at all, and that's five questions lovely." Carol smiled, Janet frowning as she had to rule out several women she knew from the list.
"Is she a super hero?"
Carol smiled slightly wider. "One of the best."
Janet was frowning. "But she's not blonde? And she's not tall?"
"No." Carol glanced over at her with a furrowed brow.
"Then I have no idea who it is." Janet gave up with a sigh.
Carol frowned. "What why?"
"Well the best happens to be blonde and tall."
"Who? Mockingbird?" Carol, while she got along well enough with the fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, wasn't that believing in her abilities as a better superhero.
Janet laughed, shaking her head and giving her date a light shove on the shoulder. "No silly, you."
Carol blinked at her, and then blushed before she could stop it. Being around the auburn haired woman always made her feel different, like her head was up in the clouds or something. Every little touch and word had a deeper meaning then something simple as with someone else. And she could always seem to get her flustered. "Ah, well, the person I was thinking of was you actually."
It was Janet's turn to be flattered, blue eyes widening for a few moments. "What me? You're kidding right?"
"Well you are a founding member of the Avengers and one of the best superheroes I know of." Admitted Carol.
"But I'm not that strong Carol, especially when I'm sized down." There was doubt in her voice that made Ms. Marvel frown.
"Jan, it doesn't matter if you're not the strongest, you're still one of the best." Carol said as earnestly as she could. "You're loyal, moral, honest, a brilliant flier, smart, resourceful, and if I may say so drop-dead sexy." The last bit earned a giggle and eye roll from Wasp. "Seriously though, you took down the Kree Sentry when no one else could, from the inside. Your powers don't make you weaker or less of a hero, in many ways they make you stronger and better." She gave a warm smile to the woman watching her attentively. "Not to mention a super hero isn't just their powers."
They walked for a little bit in silence, Janet looking down at the ground deep in thought before she looked up at Carol. "How did I ever get so lucky?" She laughed lightly, planting a quick kiss on Carol's cheek.
"I'm asking myself the same thing." Carol smiled as they reached the steps of the apartment building. They walked in and across the lobby to the elevator, pressing the button for the twenty-seventh floor. They were delightfully alone the full way up, and once the doors opened and the elevator music cut, they walked together still clasping their hands together to Janet's apartment door. They stood outside it for a little bit, staring at the other. Shyly starting up, Carol tried again to get her answer. "So, throw in the limo nearly crashing on top of fighting Whirlwind, and the date peepers at the restaurant, still a good night?" Nerves were on fire with worry. "I know that this was supposed to be our first date, and I really hope it went well, I just-"
Her words were cut short by Janet who wrapped her arms around Carol's neck and pulled her in for a kiss nearly as fierce as the one they shared in the gardens. Carol quickly returned it, pulling Janet against her and deepening the kiss. Ms. Marvel found her back against the door, Janet pressing against her and running a hand through blonde curls. Carol's hands started to wander as well, one lowering itself to the size-shifter's rump while the other run up her side making her moan slightly.
They pulled apart only when the sound of the elevator arriving on the floor chimed, both of them nearly jumping apart. Carol glanced down to where the same grandmother and little girl Samantha were strolling in towards their apartment. The sleepy eyed six year old just barely able to recognize them and give a friendly wave. Flustered, they returned it back while the grandmother kept her attention elsewhere.
Once they were gone, the duo looked at each other and gave little coughs as they caught their breath. "So I do believe I just made it to second." Carol smiled cheekily.
Janet rolled her eyes, one hand on the doorknob. "Did you honestly think you weren't?" She teased.
"With you? I haven't a single clue." Laughed Carol, shaking her head back in place. "So, well, I guess this is the goodbye part."
Mischief flashed over Janet's face and she gave a small tug on Carol's hand as she opened the door to her apartment. "Well, not necessarily." That same sultry tone filled the air, making Carol weak in the knees. She was led into her apartment, the door shutting behind with a soft click.
