I do not own fairy tail sadly...

Chapter 12: New Year's

Lucy sighed, school was already around the corner and it just made her shudder. She sat at the cafe across from her apartment complex and proudly looked up to her window to see it was now covered with a nice curtain. If it hadn't been for Natsu spotting her getting dressed, she'd still probably never realize that the whole world could basically see her.

She read her book silently, not having anything in mind for the day. It was New Year's eve and she was planning on having the day to herself since she's been out doing stuff with her friends almost everyday. Some alone time was nice to have every once and a while.

Lucy took a sip out of her espresso, ignoring the bitter taste, but accepting the warmth it gave her. If she could, she'd do this everyday. Sit at her favorite spot with a good book and a coffee, this was a book lover's heaven.

Another reason she was alone was because all the couples had plans to be alone for this holiday. Lucy didn't really mind actually, she thought it was rather sweet to be able to share such a special moment with a special somebody. Besides, she was used to spending special occasions by herself anyway. But one day, she thinks it'd be nice if she could spend it with her special someone.

Lucy sighed once again, she didn't know if it was out of content, or boredom. She decided on boredom and finally made herself leave after paying. As she trekked through the snow, looking up at the lights that were still hung up over all the buildings and wrapped around the trees, she loved it. Lucy had never been able to see things like this, being stuck in a mansion and the only place she ever went was to her fathers gatherings with other business's or to some prestigous school that was nothing but academics, no sports, no festivals, and the uniforms were so dull and proper, and did she mention it was an all girls school.

Now that she thought of it, Lucy didn't think she's actually seen a regular guy her age until she moved to Magnolia. Yeah, there were some guys she'd met, but those were just suitors for the expansion of her father's business and plus they were all rich snobs that only thought of themself or what designer brand they'd wear tomorrow.

Natsu was her first guy friend and first friend. He had swept her away when he stood up for her on her first day she thought it was just common in this new world. It did kind of insult her though when they thought she couldn't stand up for herself. And then when she wrapped him and Sting up, she thought she was going to explode. Not only did she see so many men in her life, she saw two of them shirtless on her first day she thought she would have a nose bleed to be honest.

Lucy's cheeks went a little pink at the memory and she shoved it aside. She's made so many good memories in the past few months since school started, she wouldn't admit it to anyone, but every single day has been a new adventure for her. Her walking slowed.

Now that Lucy thought of it, she knew she had feelings for Natsu now and she wouldn't deny it. But she never understood feelings since she's never been in a position like this. Natsu was her bestfriend, did she actually have a crush on him, or was it just admiration she was feeling? Either way, she couldn't get this feeling out her chest when she thought of him and it annoyed her that she couldn't seem to keep herself as composed as she used to be around him anymore.

Lucy huffed, watching the clouds from her breath in the cold air. As she kept walking, she ended up at her and Levy's favorite bookstore. A sign on the outside read, "New books!" so she decided to check it out and see if there was anything worth getting.

She walked straight to the romance section upon entering, it was her favorite genre, it was something she's never experienced and it intrigued her. She walked down the the aisle slowly, scanning the shelves for any books that caught her eye. She walked past a red book labled "The Dragon and the Princess". She paused for a moment, chuckling at the title. How could a princess and a dragon fall in love?

Her hand reached out for the book the same time as another one did. She blinked and followed the hand's arm up to the face of the owner. A pair of black eyes stared down at her in surprise.

"Lulu-chan?" Lucy went cold. There, standing next to her and now holding her hand was Dan.

"Dan!?" Lucy gasped, jumping away from him with a shudder. She almost grimaced at the seductive look he was giving her. His other hand left the red book and he went to give her an uncomfortable greeting hug.

"It's been a while, Lulu," He smiled while Lucy slowly pushed him away from her, cautious as if he'd attack any minute. "Uhh, hey... What're you doing here? I thought Raven Academy was in the next town over..." She strained a smile to be polite. This guy freaked her out so much.

"I came to visit some family and thought I could leave for some peace and quiet, but now I've found you," The end of his reply became rather seductive and she contemplated running. He turned back to the red book and handed it to her. "I see you had your eye on this book? I'll buy it for you."

"Ah, no, it's okay. I can buy it myself-" He let out a deep chuckle, making Lucy pause.

"Oh Lulu-chan. Every man has a sense of chivalry. Even if I'm a dashing ladies man I still know how to be a gentleman." Lucy looked to the floor, yeah, she wished a certain someone she knew had a bit more chivalry.

"Well, if you say so then I guess it couldn't hurt." Lucy said quietly. Dan smiled, wrapping his arm with hers, basically trapping her from escaping. He pulled her along to the register, paying for the book and giving her the bag.

"Hey, how about we hang out a bit?" Lucy began to panic a little in her head.

"Oh, uhm, I ca-"

"That's great! How about we get something to eat?" He interrupted her, dragging her along yet again. Lucy internally cried.

Once they arrived to a small resturant, Lucy excused herself for a moment, and went to the restroom in the back. She whipped out her phone and dialed down the number of someone she was pretty sure was alone right now.

'Hello?'

"Natsu!" Lucy cried.

'Huh? What's wrong, Lucy? Are you okay!?' Lucy sighed, leaning against the wall of the bathroom, watching as a lady left the bathroom, a little spooked from her outburst.

"Yeah, I'm fine, but I need a little help, I'm kind of stuck." The other line was silent for a moment.

'What?' Lucy groaned.

"I'm stuck in a resturant with Dan."

'WHAT!?' Lucy pulled the phone away from her ear, did he have to be so loud? A mother and her daughter looked at her from where they were washing their hands before she shashayed her daughter out, giving Lucy a look.

'Lucy! Why are you with him!? You know I told you to stay away from him- are you... Are you guys on a date!?' Lucy grimaced at his question.

"Hell no, Natsu! We bumped into eachother at the bookstore and he bought me a book and then took me to a resturant and I need your help!" She whined. She could hear him grabbing his keys and opening the door to his place.

'Ugh, just tell me where you are,' He ordered, Lucy smiled in victory. "We're at that resturant next to the bookstore by my place!" She replied happily. Once he hung up, she trekked back outside to their table where Dan patiently waited. Lucy eyed him as she sat down across from him.

"Well, Lulu-chan, what would you like, it's on me," He smiled charmingly. "Look Dan, I appreciate your offer and everything, but I really need to go." Lucy spoke with a smile, covering her actual feelings.

Dan eyed her for a moment, before chuckling. "You have plans today?" Lucy blinked before shaking her head.

"N-No, not really," Dan rested his chin on top of his hand, smiling at her in amusement. "Then why do you need to go?" Lucy smiled akwardly, sitting back into the seat.

"Well, actually I am supposed to be seeing someone later. He's probably waiting on me," Lucy said quietly. "A boy? Is he your boyfriend?" Lucy nodded rather quickly.

"Y-Yeah! He's my boyfriend," Lucy smiled happily, her cheeks got a little warm at the thought of calling Natsu her boyfriend, even if he wasn't. It did sound pretty nice. "I'm not buying it. Oh Lulu, you sure are a horrible liar," Lucy's eyes widened, how could he see right through her? "I think I understand though, I'm just too much for you to handle right now. You must not be ready to step into my level of expertise." Dan chuckled deeply.

"What?" Lucy was at a loss, she didn't really even understand what he was talking about, and she didn't really know where this conversation was going, maybe she could play along?

"Lucy, have you even had a first kiss?" Dan inquired, truly interested. Lucy blushed.

"What!? Why are you asking me a question like that!?" Dan brought a finger to his chin, smiling in thought.

"Your obvious flustered face says it all, you're such an innocent girl, Lulu-chan. If you want, I could help you bloom out of your bud and into a beautiful flower," Dan suggested with the same seductive look as before. "Thanks, but no thanks." Lucy interrupted before jumping from a tap onher shoulder. Dan looked up past her with a distasteful look, Lucy turned her head and smiled up to her savior.

"Natsu!" Lucy smiled happily, trying her best to act as casual as possible. Natsu only looked at her before glaring at Dan.

"What're you doin' here in Magnolia?" Natsu asked rudely, pulling Lucy aside. Dan only looked at Natsu before glancing over to Lucy with an amused face.

"This guy is your boyfriend? Well, what have I missed in the past month?" Dan laughed rather harshly, as if to insult one of them, or both. Natsu blinked at his remark before looking at Lucy. Her pleeding eyes just said to go with it, so he did. Natsu smirked at Dan and wrapped an arm around Lucy's waist, pulling her into him, sliding his hand down to her hip before it was firmly on her ass.

Lucy was sure she was going to whack him once they were clear of Dan, he didn't have to act like they were some sex crazed couple. As embarrassed as she was, she pulled through with a smile, resting her head on his shoulder. "I told you Dan that you didn't have to be so polite, I didn't want you to get your hopes up since I already have a boyfriend." Dan looked at the two one last time before another grin fell on to his face. He casually stood up, walking past them.

"If you say so Lulu. But I'm still serious about what I said, give me a call if you change your mind." Dan said with a wink, placing a piece of paper into her hand which was most likely his number. Lucy wondered if he had a lot of scraps with his number on him for moments like these. He sure did come prepared when it meant being a "lady's man".

After Dan left the resturant, Natsu snatched Dan's number from Lucy's hand and ripped it before dropping it on the floor. "I can't stand that guy," Natsu growled. Lucy sighed and bent down, picking the scraps off the floor and properly throwing them away into a trash can. "I can't either Natsu, but atleast, you two didn't get into a fight." Lucy smiled cheerfully, lightening the mood. Natsu only shrugged as they made their way out as well.

Once they did, Lucy backhanded Natsu in the stomach, making him hunch over. "The hell!?" He yelled at her, clearly irritated. Lucy placed her hands on her hips and frowned at him.

"That's what you get for overacting and sliding your hands down too far south!" Lucy stated as she turned her head from him. The two stood there in an angry silence before Lucy turned back around with a smile.

"But thanks Natsu, I can always rely on you!" Lucy laughed at the cautious look he gave her. He turned his head away with a snobby smile.

"Well, I know I'm great," Lucy chuckled as they walked down the cold street. "Hey, how about coming over to my place for a bit? I have hot chocolate." Lucy knew Natsu loved hot chocolate, he liked his with extra chocolate, to the point where it would leave Lucy sick in her stomach after one sip, she didn't understand how he could drink it with that much in. Natsu perked up at her offer, nodding with a content smile.

"I love hot chocolate," Natsu sighed happily as he chugged his mug. Lucy watched him in horror as he gulped down the hot, over chocolately drink in one gulp. "How can you do that?" Lucy asked in interest though she didnt really want to know the answer. He only burped with a shrug and left it at that.

Lucy sighed and gave him a look for his obnoxious burp before sipping on her own hot beverage, tearing her mouth away from the drink when it burned her tongue. "So... What now?" Natsu asked as he plopped himself onto her bed with a thunk.

"Hey, get off of my bed!" Lucy glared at him but her only snickered, grabbing one of her pillows and cuddling it. A small voice in her head kept saying how she wished it was her instead of that pillow her was hugging.

"I can't help it, your bed's so comfy," He said with a huge smile before sitting up on her bed watching her. "How about a movie marathon or something until New Year's?" Natsu suggested making Lucy's eyes widen. He intended to stay till New Year's?

"So like, a sleep over?" Lucy questioned quietly. Natsu shrugged in thought.

"Something like that," He said calmly while she was having a freak out session in her head of all the possible scenerios that could happen in one night. But, he's slept over before so she didn't really see the problem in it, but oh, was there. She's changed, he's changed or atleast the way she sees him has. "Okay then. Pick a movie." She found herself saying anyway.

Natsu couldn't believe his ears when she mentioned sleepover. He hadn't actually thought about that, he was probably just going to leave after midnight. He hopped off her bed, heading to her box full of movies next to her T.V. This meant he had her all to himself for a whole night!

Natsu's eyes lit up with excitement as he rumaged through movies and even more. After picking up an action movie he showed it to Lucy and she sighed. "You always pick action movies," She said with a groan, Natsu shrugged and eyed her. "Well you always pick that chic-flick shit." Lucy could only watch as he placed the cd into the dvd player.

"How about we take turns picking movies?" Lucy suggested. Natsu nodded, but his eyes were more focused on he movie that was starting up than to look at her. She walked over to her loveseat and flopped on it, Natsu following shortly after turning off the lights.

Lucy hadn't paid attention to the movie at all, it was all on the man sitting right next to her. Honestly she wasn't exactly sure how far into the movie they'd already gotten because she wasn't really watching, more like just looking at the TV while feeling every laugh and type of movement from Natsu. He was just so close, she couldn't focus at all.

His arms were resting behind the seat as if he were caging her in somehow. She had her legs up on the couch as if to prove some sort of barrier but it wasn't much, he had even grabbed her feet when the movie started and tickled her, it was a horrible torture. But she tried not to notice that as the movie went on, instead of being on both sides of the loveseat, they ended up inching closer as the time ticked on.

When the movie had finally ended, she hopped up almost immediately, almost relieved from the strange tension she felt between them. She grabbed the first movie she saw, which just happened to be a horror, though it wasn't a really scary one, if anything it was more cheesy than scary, almost laughable to watch. The lights were off but Natsu was off the couch and in her kitchen. She figured he was looking for a snack.

Lucy waited for him to return before starting the movie, this time Natsu sat right next to her. Hip to hip. "This movie isn't even scary," He complained like he always did when she chose a movie, Lucy didn't look at him but she could feel his eyes on her for some reason. "I know, that's why I picked it." They were silent for about a minute until Natsu let out a sigh.

"Laaaaame." He yawned while stretching, then rested his arm around her shoulder. Lucy sighed, she didn't know if he was trying to be romantic or not but if he was, he should really not be getting ideas from cliche movie scenes. But oh hell! He put his arm on her! Lucy sat stiff, Natsu's arm still draped around her shoulder. Natsu gave her a look before pulling her into him.

"Why are you being so stiff, you weird ass," Natsu said lowly, making Lucy growl. "The only weird person in here is you!" She yelled back before drawing her attention back to the screen. It was quiet for about a minute.

"Atleast you're not a statue anymore," Once he said that, she automatically froze up again, remembering what position they were in and also earning a groan from Natsu. "Lucy," Natsu gave out a dramatic groan wrapping his other arm around her and pulling her statue of a body into his rock hard abs. "Relaaax, I'm not a blood sucking demon like the one in the movie. Are you scared or something?"

The last thing Lucy could be was scared, she wasn't even paying attention to the movie. He smelt like fire and cinnamon and she loved it, she contemplated on whether or not to lay her head on his chest and finally decided to do so after a big portion of the movie had gone buy, it took a lot of mental preparation. His chest was hard, she wondered what it felt like under his shirt and blushed at the thought of it. His smell was intoxicating and he was so warm, she could hear his heart beat and wondered if it usually beats this fast. She wouldn't be surprised.

Lucy wasn't paying attention but something cheesy had happened during the movie, causing laughter to reverberate from his chest, Lucy could already feel herself beginning to doze off. It was just so comfortable in his arms and relaxing that after a moment or two, she allowed her eyes to rest for a moment, enjoying the moment since it'd probably be the only time they did something like this.

Natsu continued to laugh at the stupid scenes in the horrible horror movie before a thought came to mind, he looked over to the clock on the side of the couch and laughed. It was already 12:30, they had missed New Years. Oh well.

"Hey Lucy, we missed New Years because of this stupid movie," Silence. Natsu tilted his head down to look at the top of the blonde's head. "Lucy? You awake?" He moved her up a bit and tilted her head to his before laughing yet again at her sleeping face. What happened to an all-night movie marathon? he chuckled at the sleeping face infront of his, the only light emitting from the screen infront of them giving a violet-blue hue to her face as lights flickered on and off.

Her lips were slightly parted and he patted her face, making her close it before it went back to how it originally was. "Hey, Lucy. Get off of me and go to bed if you're gonna sleep." She didn't reply while he still held her face up so he could see it. He became a little hot, gulping inaudibly as he continued to stare at her sleeping face before his eyes trailed down to her plump lips, they looked so soft. He wondered if they felt just as soft.

His finger ran across her lip and he was not the least bit surprised to find out that they were in fact just as soft as they looked. It wouldn't hurt a little if he did it just once, would it? Natsu fought a war inside his head, he couldn't rely on the angel on one shoulder and the demon on the other shoulder thing because they'd both be telling him to go for it. Natsu sighed and looked away from her face and back to the screen, watching as some girl got ripped in half with horrible effects.

He sat like that for a bit longer before he groaned and grabbed her face, bringing his own down to hers and pecking her lips softly with his. His head shot away from her and his face felt like it was going to melt off. He felt awfully dissatisfied with just a peck, his eyes kept shooting back and forth from her face to the movie. He really was an idiot.

He leaned back down and rested his lips back onto her soft ones, he kissed her lightly, so not to wake her up, but he craved for a bit more, pressing his lips a little more firmly against hers. A small sound from her made Natsu freeze before his head shot away from her, finally snapping out of whatever state he was in.

'What the hell am I doing!?' He screamed in his head, his face buring as he looked at the blonde in his arms. Slowly, he moved off the couch and grabbed a blanket that was folded on the seat next to them before laying it over Lucy. He turned off the TV and grabbed his things and walked to the door, giving the couch one last look before he left.

How was he even gonna be able to look at her again after that?
