The first time Ros almost lost Alba was when Dezember sliced the young hero in half. Suddenly the mood shifted. What was comical before suddenly was dimmed. Ros could only stand there is shock as his friend separated into two pieces. He felt numb, and couldn't even will himself to move. Without Foyfoy moving him out of the way, he would have died, but at that moment, he didn't really care.
Innocent, wide-eyed Alba was dead, and it was because he was reckless.
He had been avoiding it since he wanted to spend more time traveling with Alba and Ruki, but he was willing to sacrifice that. He needed Alba to live, even if it meant another thousand years of sleep for him.
And so he unleashed his power, and managed to say goodbye before he left.
"Good Luck Alba, it was fun."
The second time Ros almost lost Alba was in the middle of their final battle with Rchimedes.
It seemed that in his year long absence, Alba actually had learned to fight. He managed to take out several of the demons supporting Rchimedes, and even stabbed Rchimedes in the leg, but it wasn't enough.
As Alba disappeared in a flash of fire, Ros's heart sank and raged pounded through his veins. He knew being angry only made Rchimedes stronger, but he couldn't control himself. Alba was gone, and he couldn't do anything. He was powerless without his mana. Even when he found out Alba was in the dimensional rift, he couldn't do anything.
When Alba came back safe and sound and stronger than ever, Ros silently thanked Honey, knowing he was forever indebted. Not that he would ever admit it aloud.
The third time, Ros wasn't so fortunate.
Alba had come a long way. At the beginning, he could barely fight a slime without passing out, but now he could fight on par with him, the legendary hero Creasion.
Despite that, Alba still managed to die.
Ros wasn't able to save him this time. During the battles in an attempt to save Lake, he had lost his mana-maker-kun. Without mana he was pretty much powerless, and when Alba began to spit up blood after being attacked by shadow guy, Ros was filled with rage. He was so angry he began to blindly lash out at the enemy. He couldn't remember how, but Dezember ended up defeated again.
But that alone couldn't save Alba.
"Hero!" Ros shouted, kneeling next to Alba, who had collapsed on the ground.
When he was met with no response, Ros swallowed hard. "Alba?" he asked, a small crack in his voice.
Alba didn't respond. He couldn't respond. He was gone.
Ros just looked down in disbelief. Powerless. That is what he was, so powerless. Alba couldn't have died; he was the one precious thing Ros gained with his crazy life. Even without his mana, Ros tried over and over, again and again to heal him, but the efforts were wasted. His eyes were watering and his body was shaking with sobs that threatened to come when he had to accept what had happened.
"I'm so sorry Alba."
AN: I really love Senyuu, so I wrote another fanfiction. I don't write a whole lot of oneshots, so I hope this came out ok. Thanks for reading, and feel free to post a comment. I always welcome advice for how to improve my writing.
