"Charmander, Flamethrower!"

"Dewott, Water Gun!"

Charmander and Dewott both inhaled before unleashing a stream if fire and water. The two streams spiraled as they formed a combination of fire and water. The enemy Heracross and Kadabra hardly stood a chance as the massive vortex swept then off their feet.

"Kadabra!" A psychic trainer yelled in horror.

"Heracross no!" The black belt couldn't believe what he saw.

The two Pokemon fell by their feet. Emma sighed as the duo rushed to their Pokemon

"Whelp, chalk that up as another win." She looked down. "Great work Dewott." Dewott growled happily as it looked up at Emma.

"You were great too Charmander." Jake said as he kneeled down to Charmander's height.

Charmander snorted as it smiled, but suddenly it opened its' eyes before its' body began to glow. Charmander then began to grow somewhat taller as a single horn formed on the top of its' head. When it stopped glowing, its' skin was now red and it looked meaner.

"Whoa.." Jake was taken back by his Pokemon's new intimidating appearance.

"Oh hey what do ya know?" Emma glanced over. "Your Pokemon actually evolved."

Jake took out his Pokedex.

Charmeleon, the flame Pokemon and the evolved form of Charmander. It is very hot-headed by nature, so it constantly seeks opponents. It calms down only when it wins.

Emma looked closely at it. "Yeah it certainly looks hot-headed."

Charmeleon glared at her briefly before breathing a burst of flames right in her face. "Ow..." Emma coughed before falling on her back.

"Emma!" Jake yelled concerned as Dewott ran to her side, cleary shocked. "Charmeleon, there was no need for that!" Charmeleon crossed its' arms in a huff. Jake sighed. "This is gonna take some getting used to..."

later...

"Oho, so Charmander evolved did he?"

"Yup, I guess all those battles finally paid off."

Professor Oak grinned. "Well I knew it was a matter of time. Afterall he always loved to battle." Oak then remembered something. "By the way, did you ever manage to get Justin his Pokedex?"

"Yup, but he sure didn't stick around."

Oak chuckled. "Well he's got spirit, I'll give him that."

Jake also laughed. "That's for sure."

"By the way Jacob, how are you coming along with your Pokedex?"

"Huh?...Oh yeah that." Jake pulled out his Pokedex extracting it from the dex and placing it into the PC.

"Hmm, let's see..." Oak examined the data on the PC. "Hm...oh, interesting, well you're certainly making an effort."

Jake looked away sheepishly. "I suppose I've been focused on other things..."

"Might I suggest fishing? It's an excellent way to find new Pokemon."

Jake extracted his Pokedex from the PC. "Well first I'll have to get a fishing rod."

"Oh I'm sure you'll manage." Oak laughed.

"Are we done here?" Emma huffed impatiently. "The sooner we get through, the sooner I can get my badge."

Jake rolled his eyes. "Alright, alright I'm coming." He turned back to Professor Oak. "Sorry Professor, I need to get going."

Oak nodded with a warm smile "Take care Jacob, and give your brother my regards."

Jake nodded. "I will." He then turned off the PC. He then gathered his pokeballs from Nurse Joy. "Alright let's go."

As the duo left the Pokemon Center, they gazed at the large mountain before them.

"Great, and we still have a ways to go..." Emma groaned.

"Oh come on it's not that bad." They began to hike towards the mountain. "And who knows? We may find something ne-whao!" Jake jumped to the side as a mass of what looked like spider webs landed by him and Emma.

"What the heck?!" They both turned. "Where did that come from?!" Emma said astounded.

In the distance, a caucasian boy staggered back, visibly panicked. He had long hair, almost like a girl, and wore a somewhat dusty black t-shirt and tight jeans. Beside him stood a striped, bipedal crocodile-like Pokemon. Before them stood several rather large and angry looking Ariados in what looked like a massive nest of web. They all hissed menacingly as the boy and his Pokemon stumbled back nervously.

Without warning, they all fired shots of web at the duo.

"String shot, Krokorok, you need to get away!" The Pokemon then attempted to jump out of the way but was quickly entangled by the various string shots.

"Oh no!" The boy ran over to his Pokemon as it fell to the ground, struggling to move. At that point the Ariados collectively fired several needle like projectiles from the extra pair of legs on their backs. The boy winced as he braced for the attack. Suddenly the attacks were intercepted by a combination of Dragon Rage and Thunderbolt attacks. The boy turned around as Jake and Emma stood before him with Gible and Clefairy in front of them.

Emma rushed over to him. "You alright?" She said examining him.

"Y-yeah, I think so." The boy seemed somewhat dumbfounded to see the duo. The Ariados then seemed even more aggravated than before, at that point Jake rushed to the front. " Hey, what are you doing?! You can't take them all at once!"

Jake only grinned with his pokeball in hand. "That's what you think." He then tossed the pokeball in the air and out emerged Charmeleon, claws bared and ready to fight.

The Ariados then collectively used String Shot, directing it at Charmeleon. Charmeleon didn't even move as it was entangled by the webs.

"Oh no it's a direct hit!" The boy said, concerned.

Jake grinned. "I wouldn't be so sure." Charmeleon grinned smugly as it almost immediately ripped through the web with its' razor sharp claws. "No way some wimpy Bug type attack like that is gonna stop my Charmeleon." Jake said triumphately. "Now it's our turn..." Charmeleon growled eagerly, as the Ariados seemed to tremble somewhat in fear. "Charmeleon, Fire Spin!" Charmeleon then inhaled before expelling a vortex of flames, consuming the Ariados and incinerating their web. When the flames petered out, the smoking Bug types fell to the ground, a select few fleeing immediately.

"And just for the heck of it..." Jake then pulled out a pokeball and tossed it at one of the dazed Ariados. The Pokeball struck it in the abdomen before pulling it in to it. The pokeball then shook once, twice, a third time and pinged.

"Whew." The boy sighed as he fell onto his knees. "Hey." Jake held out his hand. "You okay?"

"Yeah," the boy stood up with Jake's assistance. "I'll be fine."

"What was all that about anyways?" Emma asked.

"I was training my Krokorok, and I guess we bumped into one of them while they were asleep, and the next thing I knew, there was an entire nest of this things after us." He sighed. "Thank you both for your help."

"Hey we're always willing to help." Jake turned to his Pokemon. "Isn't that right guys ?" Gible growled in agreement while Charmleon simply grinned as it crossed its' arms. "Alright guys return."

The boy brushes off his pants. "I don't believe I caught either of your names."

"My name's Emma, I'm from the Unova region."

"And I'm Jacob, but you can call me Jake."

The boy grinned somewhat at Jake. "My name's Dustin. I'm kinda new to Kanto."

"Well, is there any particular reason that you're out here?" Emma asked.

"Yes actually," he dusted off his shirt. "I was hoping to get through Mt. Moon."

Jake suddenly seemed intrigued. "That's actually where we were heading."

Emma raised an eyebrow as Jake held his hand out to Dustin.

"What do ya say you tag along with us?" Jake asked with a warm smile. Krokorok growled, causing Jake to flinch just a bit.

"Hang on Krokorok," It stopped growling and looked up at its' trainer. " Sure I'll come along." Dustin smiled. "It'll be nice to have some friends along."

"Great, great can we go now?" Emma said impaciently.

"Wait a minute, we should probably get you guys rested up." Jake said pointing towards Dustin.

"He looks fine to me."

Jake pointed at the scrapes on Dustin's arm and Krokorok, who panted heavilly.

Emma sighed. "Okay I see your point."

Later...

The trio eagerly stood at the cave opening of Mt. Moon. Flocks of Zubats flew out, screeching as they did so.

"Well...here we go..." Jake said shaking just a bit.

They entered the cave, initially the were overwhelmed by darkness within the large mountain.

"Okay, this isn't gonna work." Emma said impaciently. "I can't even see my hand in front of my face."

"Hang on, I'll fix it." Jake said reaching around his waist. "Now I know it's here somewhere..." He reached around until he found a round object. "Aha," he pulled it off of his belt. "Sure hope this is the right one. " He tossed it in the air as there was a brief flash as Charmeleon emerged, lighting up part of the cave.

"Charmeleon, we need you to lead the way through this cave." Charmeleon snorted as it began walking in front of them.

"You know, other than the darkness, this really isn't that bad." Dustin said staying close behind.

"Oh yeah?" Emma said nonchalantly. Suddenly they all reached two separate dividing caves. "Not that bad eh?"

The trio all looked at each opening, unsure which way to go.

"Wait a minute," Jake said listening. "You hear that?" Emma and Dustin stopped and looked around.

"I don't hear anything." Emma said.

"Me neither." Dustin added.

"Hmmm..." Jake looked down at Charmeleon who seemed to be looking up at him as if he had just grown a third arm. "You hear it don't ya Charmeleon?" Charmeleon scratched its' chin, indifferently as it sniffed the air. Suddenly it turned to one of the pathways, growling. "See he hears it." Jake said pointing at Charmeleon.

"Wait a minute..." Emma said as Charmeleon's growls became more intense. "I think he senses something." Charmeleon continued to growl as it took off into the cave.

"Hey wait up." Jake said running after Charmeleon.

"Hey you're not leaving me in the dark!" Emma yelled running after them. Dustin soon followed. They all ran through the cave until, much to their surprise, there appeared to be a campsite. Strange. The trio thought. Who in the right mind would be camping in Mt. Moon? Then they saw who was at the campsite: several men and women dressed in black and sporting the same "R" insignia that Zero had been wearing.

"It's them!" Jake whispered.

"Them?" Dustin asked puzzled.

"Team Rocket..." Emma whispered sternly. "The guys who nearly destroyed the Pewter City Museum."

"Say what?!" Jake and Emma collectively placed a hand on Dustin's mouth.

"Shhh, are you trying to get their attention?" Emma hissed.

"There's too many of them to take on right now, we should leave while we still have the chance." Jake whispered.

"Good idea." Emma responded.

They were about to turn around when a large shadow loomed over them as Charmeleon's growl intensified. As they turned they were immediatley confronted by a very large and very buff Machamp glaring angrily at them.

"Well well, what have we here?" A rocket grunt stepped out from behind the large Pokemon.

"Well great.." Emma groaned standing up.

"Um...guys?" The group turned around as every Team Rocket member at the site turned their attention to the group.

"So much for being stealthy..." Emma said to herself.

"So these must be those kids Zero was talking about." The grunt next to Machamp smirked. "You kids really spared us the trouble of hunting you down."

Machamp growled, grinning menacingly.

"Now I suggest you all come quietly," Machamp flexed. "otherwise Machamp, here, will break every bone in your pathetic bodies."

The trio looked at one another before raising their hands

"That's better, the boss'll be delighted when we bring him the little brats who ruined our plans."

Unbeknownst to the grunts, Emma already had a Pokeball pressed against a cave wall with her foot.

" No. He. Won't!"

suddenly a pair of massive clawed wings sprouted out from behind Emma as Archeops flew up into the air, screeching.

"What the?!"

"Rock Throw!" Before any of the grunts could respond, Archeops slashed at the cave wall, chucking boulders all around it in the process.

"Why you little..." One of the grunts groweled. "Machamp crush that thing!"

Machamp lunged towards Archeops, reaching out to grab it.

"Oh no you don't, Charmeleon, Fire Spin!" Charmeloeon then breathed a vortex of flames, stopping Machamp in its tracks.

"My turn..." Dustin said pulling out a pokeball. "Krokorok, Sandstorm!" Krokorok emerged and immediately conjured up a vortex of sand.

"My eyes!" One grunt yelled.

"C-can't see..." Another coughed.

"Some one get those brats!"

Taking advantage of the discord, the trio ran past the Machamp and its' trainer.

"Archeops cover up that tunnel with Rock Throw." Archeops then blocked off the tunnel with several boulders.

"That was too close!" Dustin said breathing heavily.

"Yeah...it really was..." Jake responded. He then looked down. "Great work Charmeleon."

Charmeleon growled smiling. Archeops screeched as it landed next to Emma.

"You were great too Archeops, return." She then recalled her pokemon.

Jake looked back at the blocked off tunnel. "Well, now we know which way not to go."

Krokorok hissed in agreement.

"We should probably get moving before those thugs dig their way out." Emma said leading them towards another tunnel.

Jake and Dustin nodded. "Right."

Jake looked at the uncovered cave.

"Well at least now we know which one to go through."
