The End of their Tale?

Rapunzel found herself struggling to breathe. She couldn't imagine herself with short hair, she could not imagine a future without Eugene in it, or even the women parading to be her mother, or that tower. Eugene found himself rubbing her back, hoping to help her lungs work again, and ignoring that he had willingly given his life for a girl. He would never had done that for Staylan.

Rapunzel's hair turns brown, and Gothel gathers it in her arms as the hair turns. Then Gothel see her arm lose its youth and, drops the hair, makes her way to the broken mirror to see her vision losing her youth, as her entire being turns white. Unable to look at herself, Gothel hides herself with her hood and walks backwards. Pascal pulls on the hair and Gothel flies out the window, turning to dust as she falls.

Eugene pulled Rapunzel's face into his shoulder. And she understood why. The women who had kidnapped her, who had raised her, who had used her and who manipulated her had just died. He released her when she whispered to him that she was okay.

Rapunzel catches her breath and turns back to Eugene, gathering him in his arms.

Rapunzel: No, no, no, no.

Eugene coughs, his strength leaving him quickly.

Rapunzel forced herself to watch her future. If she were allowed to remember, then she would make sure that Eugene would not die.

Rapunzel: Oh, look at me. Look at me. I'm right here, don't go. Stay with me, Eugene. (Singing) Flower gleam and glow, let your powers shine, make the clock reverse, bring back what once was mine ...

Eugene: Rapunzel.

Rapunzel: (Crying) What?

Eugene: You were my new dream?

Rapunzel: And you were mine.

Arianna had tears in her eyes.

Eugene breathes one last time and goes completely limp. He has died. Rapunzel starts to cry, holding him close and quietly singing. One of her tears falls onto his check. She can't see, but the tears glows, turns into the shape of the sun and sinks into him skin.

Everyone gasps (even Gothel) as they watched magic working. Eugene was going to live.

The wound begins to glow and Rapunzel looks up to see it healing up. Colour returns to Eugene and he coughs. Rapunzel stares at him intently until he slowly opens his eyes to look at her.

Eugene: Did I ever tell you I've got a thing for brunettes?

Rapunzel: (gasps) Eugene!

Rapunzel cries happily, clinging to Eugene. He was beaming so hard his face was starting to hurt.

She embraces him, pulls away, and kisses him. Eugene melts into the kiss.

In the palace, a royal guard arrives at the room with the royal couple in it.

Frederick grabbed Arianna. This was it. This was the moment in which they will be reunited with their daughter. Their kingdom would regain their princess.

They look up to see the speechless guard nodding. They run down the corridor to the balcony. They stare at each other and then slowly open the doors to see Eugene and Rapunzel standing there, holding hands.

Arianna wrapped her hands around Frederick's hand, practically bouncing in her chair.

Arianna makes the first move, slowly making her way to Rapunzel. The Queen rests a hand on Rapunzel's cheek and smiles. Rapunzel smiles back. They embrace. The King makes his way forward. Rapunzel looks up at him and he visibly relaxes, embracing both of them. They melt to the floor. Eugene watches, and Arianna reaches a hand out. Eugene takes it and finds himself in the family embrace.

"Back together" said Arianna. She looked over at Rapunzel, who smiled back at her.

The kingdom is having a big party.

Eugene: (voiceover) The kingdom rejoiced. For the Lost Princess had now returned. The party lasted an entire week, and honestly I don't remember much of it. Dreams came true all over the place. That guy went on to become the most famous concert pianist in the world, if you believe. And this guy? Well, he eventually found true love. As for this guy, well, I assume he's happy. He's never told me otherwise. Thanks to Maximus, crime in the kingdom disappeared almost overnight as did most of the apples. Pascal, never changed. At last, Rapunzel was home and she finally had real family. She was a princess worth waiting for. Beloved by all, she led her kingdom with all the grace and wisdom that her parents did before. And as for me, well, I started going by Eugene again. Stopped thieving and basically turned it all around, but I know what the big question is. Did Rapunzel and I ever get married? Well, I am pleased to tell you that after years and years of asking, and asking, and asking, I finally said yes.

Both Rapunzel and Eugene blushed. Their relationship hadn't even started and yet they were going to get married.

Rapunzel: (voiceover) Eugene.

Eugene: (voiceover) Alright, I asked her.

Rapunzel: (voiceover) And we're living happily ever after.

Eugene: Yes, we are.

Gothel groaned as she was able to move the gag away from her mouth.

"To bad that never will happen. The moment we return to that tower, I will taking her away for ..."

Eugene had knocked Gothel out with a frying pan when Destiny reappeared. She smiled at them and made her way to Rapunzel.

"You okay?" she asked, sweetly.

Rapunzel smiled and nodded.

"Yeah," she said, "I think so." She smiled at her real parents and Eugene. Destiny took Rapunzel's hands and got the princess to look at her.

"Now you have a choice to make" said Destiny, she pushed some of Rapunzel's long golden hair out of the way.

"What choice?" she asked. The rest of the audience make their way to the two of them.

"The memories of this place will be removed from the minds of all but two. Those two are up to you" said Destiny, "for when the story you have is complete and you are living your happily ever after, you will be summoned by the Man in the Moon fight once more. Those two will make sure your story comes to pass without any interruptions and they are completely up to you."

Rapunzel looked at everyone. Who was this Man in Moon that they were talking about? And those three others? But that is a mystery for another time.

She looked at the people who will play an important factor in her story. Should she chose Eugene? No, he was too close to the story. There was nothing to stop him from going straight to the tower to save her there and then. Not the King, he would be the exact same.

Then she knew.

Rapunzel turned to Destiny with the air of the princess that she was rightly so.

"I have decided that Max and the Queen should be the two to know."

Arianna and Max looked at each other (and that was a weird experience for the Queen). Eugene nodded, completely understanding why he wasn't chosen.

Destiny smiled. She completely understood why. She clicked her fingers and they all disappeared back to where they belonged.
