~A Break for History~

Long ago the world was destroyed by a battle between the two clans of trolls.

The Fauna, or forest dwelling trolls were trolls with cold blood who had the ability to shape shift at will into various types of forest creatures, they preferred living life the simple way, away from man-made buildings and rivers, and instead lived amongst the creatures of the forest happy and relaxed.

The Flora, or village dwelling trolls were trolls with warm blood, who had the talent to build tall structures and manipulate the earth, having almost magical abilities to create food and nutrients from even the most stubborn seeds.

In this battle between the clans the earth magic of the Flora clan and the Shape shifting magic of the Fauna clan had mutated the fighters into horrific monsters that were neither troll nor animals. Legs turned to roots, hair into vines, blood turned molten sap, the mind and soul trapped in anger, the creatures continued fighting even when the fields were stained with blood.

During this time, it was said that a Flora troll draped in red had fallen in love with a forest dweller and the two ran away from the ruins of war together with their closest and most trusted allies. Once far enough from the fields the Flora clan constructed a wall of trees and vines around the area so their new settlement would be at peace. The Fauna clan defended the Floras while they worked hunting dangerous animals or killing off any mutated creatures that may have followed them. Soon they had a settlement away from the mutants where they could live without a war and the destruction they had caused.

Now back to the village dweller in red and our forest dweller. The two had settled down in a small house to the side of the town and for years happily remained there on their own. It was with news of a child on the way that the short lived peace ended. Both clans were worried that a child born between the two would be a mutant just like the monsters they had recently escaped from and warned the couple. The couple refused and continued to believe their child would be born happily, that this was a creature born for joy not anger, and everything would be alright. However the clans lived in fear, and the night the infant was to be born the clans joined together and burned the house to the ground. Both the mother and the father died that night, but the child did not.

The child was born with both the magic of the Earth, and the magic of shape shifting. The father of the child had a brother, and the mother of the child had a sister, who both held the child out to the crowd of united clans and showed them, "This is not like the creatures we feared, this is but a child just like you and I." "Perhaps they are something even more pure, for we are the monsters who killed our own for doing nothing wrong."

The crowd did not take to this kindly, arguing that the child could change later or become more powerful then everyone and take over. Fear ran their emotions to steal the child away, and kill it before another word was said.

It was then the two clans spoke to never talk about the night again, to keep it from history books and bedtime stories. The separated their lands so a couple like those two would never develop again. The sister and brother made a deal, if the forest dwellers provided protection, the village dwellers would provide the food and medicine and every week a report and deal would be traded until there is nothing more to fear, then they will unite the clans again.

However with this night stuck from the books, a mystery clouded the eyes of the trolls to who's fault the night was, who is to blame, and what more accompanies mystery but with doubt and fear?

Author's Note:

Sorry for the very long delay everyone, I've started this several years ago when I was much younger and looking back at it I'm a little embarrassed, however, I am a writer of their word. I will continue this story and finish it out as I had planned, however it will take some time and I can't promise a consistent update schedule yet. Thank you for your long overdue patience.
