When the five of them arrived into their humble little town, Shiki knew that man had something to do with it. Her violet eyes froze into ice chips as she clutched Haru's hand and pulled him away from the side of the road.

"Let's go back inside," She murmured as she pushed open the door. "we'll just have to stay away from them and everything should be fine."

Heading upstairs Shiki walked over to the only window in their shared bedroom and she glared down at the interlopers.

This was such a fucked up situation and she was half convinced her life was going to go to shit in approximately two point five seconds.

".Are they with the guy in the mask?" Haru asked after a minute of silence and the red haired girl paused and then nodded.

"We need to steer clear of them." She told her brother as she clutched him as close as she could to her side. "We need to stay underneath their radar, so that means no more training until further notice."

Haku gave a small nod of his head.

"Now I don't know if those men were given any descriptions but my red hair might attract their attention," She said softly as she glanced into the mirror hanging opposite of her, if there was any time she cursed her looks it was now. "and no doubt they are going to visit every house in the village, so they will meet me no matter what."

There was another pause as her brother wrapped his arms around her middle tightly and he buried his face in her shoulder for a brief second before he turned his face back towards hers.

"I'll keep you safe, I promise." Haku said softly and Shiki shot him a hard look.

"If keeping me safe involves putting yourself in danger, please don't." She said firmly as she moved in his hold to face him fully. "I don't want that."

The brown haired boy gave her frown and she shifted at the usually dark look he was sporting. She watched as he sat up and moved away and her fingers twitched with the need to pull him back into her personal space.

"And if me not getting involved ends up with you getting hurt I'll never forgive myself." He told her as he reached down and grabbed her hand in his. "And neither of us want that, so I'll be keeping you safe -deal with it."

And with Haku sent her a glare as if daring her to contradict him and Shiki nearly smiled.

God, she loved him.

"Okay fine, I guess I can't stop you." She admitted. "But I'll be keeping you safe in return even if it means I have to keep you from keeping me safe."

Sniffing, her brother narrowed his eyes at her before crossing his arms over his chest.

"That's counterproductive Shiki." He grumbled out and she laughed, leaning against his side with a soft hum.

"I know." She said. "But it's necessary, I'm not going to let him ruin this for me."

She'd stop him even if she had to die to do it.

She was still awake even when it was this late at night and Shiki couldn't find it in herself to give a single sliver of a care.

She had been thinking about everything that has happened so far and now she was stuck wondering why Obito wanted so much to do with her?

She knew he had taken her from her home when she was a baby. She knew she was important enough to warrant ANBU guards watching over her and she knew that whatever had his attention was enough to keep it even after all these years.

Shiki assumed that the man would have left her alone until he had need of her or would have just outright killed her from the beginning, all things considered. But he hadn't which meant he did indeed need her but that was contradicted by the fact that he sent a group of people after her who could and would viably kill her.

Why in the hell would he do that if he needed her for whatever reason?

Unless he was someone how trying to see her reaction? To test her or some backward shit like that. He had caught her training with Haku so that was viable but he had to have known that she wasn't nearly prepared enough to fight anyone.

Shiki was sure he wanted her for something but the question was what?

Frowning she pulled her knees to her chest and hypothesized.

He could want her for her chakra chains and Uzumaki heritage but well, he had Nagato who had the goddamn Rinnegan so why would he need another?

But then again, capturing Bijuu would be shit tons easier with someone who could trap the beasts with less than a thought. If her chains could capture the mighty Nine-Tails then she could take the others with time to spare.

But that didn't make any sense because wouldn't her being there disrupt the need for the Akatsuki?

The whole reason they were formed was to steal all of the beings that the Jinchuuriki held inside them so maybe that wasn't the reason he still kept an eye on her?

Although she could make the whole process easier with her particular expertise but if that's what he wanted then why didn't he just take her with him and raise her up to hang off of his every word?

Not that it would have worked considering she wasn't really an impressionable child but regardless, that option was ruled out.

Sighing to herself, Shiki rolled over to face a sleeping Haku and peered through the small window in their room into the moon lite night sky.

The only answer she could think of was that he knew something about her that she didn't and whatever he knew had something to do with her parents and where he initially stole her from.

But the fact of the matter was she didn't know who birthed her and it wasn't like she could just go up to him and ask - which meant it would remain a mystery. Not that Obito's reasons for doing what he doing made any difference but it would have been a potential advantage to know.

Oh and she supposed he could just be doing this to get his sick little rocks off which considering him, would make a lot of sense.

Snorting in disgust, the young redhead clenched her hands into fists.

He had unleashed the Kyuubi onto the Leaf Village as some petty revenge and no one could tell her otherwise.

If she could kill him she would, then Obito could go join his precious little Rin in the afterlife - even if the girl was bound to hate him for everything he's done.

It would only serve him right if the "love" of his life scorned him.

Eyes momentarily drawn to Haku when he shifted, she relaxed when he only moved closer to her and settled back down.

God, she was so worried about him.

With these Kekkei Genkai hunters in their village, it was only a matter of time before someone got hurt. It never failed to happen whenever the subject of the born gifted was brought up.

Shiki remembered every single account of bloodline purging that had ever happened in her village. It didn't matter if she saw them with her own eyes or if she heard of them through the grapevine, they stuck with her like scars. Though, of course, the ones she had witnessed personally would always hurt the most - especially when she saw the aftermath - and there was definitely one execution that had resonated with her so deeply that she had cried about it for days.

Seeing those two kids be made victims had struck far too close to home for her comfort.

They had been siblings, an elder sister, and a younger brother. They had blown into town looking harried and had immediately set about working to earn themselves some keep. And as time went on they ended up being been liked - favored even. and it wasn't a hard thing to do when the older child was delightfully well mannered and the younger one was endearing.

She had even played with them, everyone had! - and everything had been going well.

Until one day a group of men had rolled into town looking for them and it had been grizzly. All it took was one word from them to turn the town against the two kids who they had otherwise impeccably trusted and a lynch mob was formed.

They had rounded up the two them - tracked them down and dragged them back when they tried to escape - and called the rest of the town to watch. And in her village everyone was meant to go because if they didn't it would assumed that the absent party was the same as the accused and they would be hunted down next.

It was such a fucked up policy.

All Shiki could remember was feeling sick to her stomach and begging both Saki and Kado to let her go back to the house but they had refused. To leave was to admit to guilt and they couldn't risk assuaging her fear if it meant calling death down upon them. And so she had stood there and looked over at Haku - who wore a look of solemn acceptance - and at the crowd baying for blood and she had felt so very, very small.

Shiki had felt so very very minuscule and so very very guilty as she sat there and watched the townspeople around her tear the two children - the two begging and pleading children - apart.

They didn't even have proof of the claims and yet they had brutally murdered them like they were animals.

And no one batted a single eyelash.

Shivering to herself, Shiki forced those memories away and reached over and set her hand on her brother's wrist.

There was no way in hell she was going to let Haku and herself end up like Ina and Hizaki Kururugi, and if she had to find a way to massacre a whole town to prevent that from happening then so be it.

Finally a new update! I'm sorry I've been gone so long lol.

Question 1: How do you think the hunters will end up catching Shiki and Haku?

Question 2: How do you think Shiki will figure out that she's a host to the Nine Tails?

Question 3: Do you think Kado and Saki will die? Why or why not?

Question 4: When Shiki, Haku, and Kimimaro start traveling with Zabuza name three people you guys want her to meet? (Even though they won't know who Shiki really is.)

Question 5: I have plans for Shiki to help get the fourth Mizukage Yagura away from Obito's control, what do you guys think about that? Also she wont be fighting him. Its more of a clever plan.

Question 6: I also have plans for Mei - Zabuza's teammate - to let him register his three little brats as an informal kind of genin squad. What do you think about that?

(Also in this fic, Zabuza is sort of like Tsunade with how she was basically a missing Nin to everyone else but her village. So he's not technically registered as a missing Nin by the mist, so he's one in all but name.)

Thank you all for reading! I'll try to update soon. Next chapter should be the one where a lot of important, plot progressing stuff going down. So maybe two more chapters until Zabuza and I know how alot of you are anticipating that lmao.

Oh! And if you guys like Batman or any series by Patricia Briggs go check out my new fics Chiroptera and It's All Going To The Dogs!
