Or you could try writing something you'd want to read. Whatever it is.. I hope you find something you like doing with your time.. Have a fantastic day and thanks for reading even if you're not a fan! Have a great day!
Stef emerged from the bathroom about twenty minutes after she'd gone in. Towel drying her hair. "You have no idea, how good that felt."
Lena put her phone down and nodded "Oh, I can only imagine."
Stef's eyes traveled to Callie. She was curled up on her side; the elephant wrapped up in her arm, with her pointer finger resting on the bridge of her nose. "Sweet girl" Stef said softly "She must be wiped."
"She fell asleep, pretty much the minute her head hit the pillow" Lena commented. "Busy day, and it is four am."
Stef groaned "Augh, it's the never ending day." She moved over to Callie and carefully unwrapped the towel from around her hair, to let her hair dry naturally and help her sleep more comfortably. She discarded the towel to the end of the bed, and brushed her fingers over Callie's forehead before leaning in a planting a small kiss on her forehead. "Proud of you, today" She whispered.
Callie's eyes fluttered but she didn't stir, proving she was out.
Lena grabbed the damp towel from the end of the bed and hung it on the back of a chair. "You must be exhausted too."
"Exhausted doesn't even touch the surface of what I am right now." Stef mumbled handing Lena her towel as well. "I am just so thankful it's over, and my kids are safe, and that you bought me pajamas. All of this stuff must have cost a fortune" Stef mumbled as she crawled into the other bed.
"Actually, the officer that took me to the Target paid for it." She explained as she hung Stef's towel as well before crawling into bed with her. "You and Callie were working for them and they made me leave without packing for us, so they're helping us out."
"At least they could do" Stef grumbled "After terrifying me, and my daughter!"
Lena ran her hand soothingly down Stef's arm. "Its okay sweetheart, you're okay. Callie's okay. Hundreds of lives were just changed for the better today, and you did that. Callie did that. Mariana did that. I am so very proud of you three." She let out a little sigh "Had I been in your shoes, I don't think I could have handled it with such strength and grace."
"Oh, love" Stef yawned "You're a lot stronger than you give yourself credit for."
"As you are" Lena assured her. "No, I don't like how this was handled on your end, but I am choosing to look at the outcome. You two are safe and sound and sleeping right next to me tonight."
"Good point" Stef's eyes darted over to Callie "Looks like she's choosing to take the same page as her smart mama. This is the most peaceful I've seen her sleep in a while."
"She knows she's safe" Lena nodded. "As much as I hate to say this, we should set an alarm. If we want to all stay on a regular sleeping schedule."
Stef nodded "Yeah, hopefully Jane and Charlie don't keep us here too long. I'd like to get home and see my babies. I hate that I am not with Brandon after surgery."
"Me too" Lena agreed as she set the alarm on her phone. "Set for eight thirty."
Stef groaned again "Four hours of sleep. Perfect." She rolled over and looked at Lena. "I don't say this enough, but I love you."
Lena leaned forward and planted a kiss on her wife's forehead "And I you, get some rest Stef. You'll feel better in the morning."
Callie groaned as Lena's alarm clock woke her up rudely. "Why?" She complained "Why now?"
Lena sat up quickly to turn it off, now thinking it was a dumb idea to set. She was exhausted. Stef had pulled the pillow over her head, and probably dozed off again, as she wasn't moving or complaining; and Lena could tell by the sound of Callie's voice the teen was just as tired.
"Go back to sleep, slug a bug" She mumbled "It's okay."
"K" Callie responded as she shifted in her bed. Though now she couldn't get comfortable. She shifted again, and again and again and again.
Lena listened to her shift around a bunch before she sat up herself. "How does going down for the Continental breakfast sound?"
"Can I have coffee?" Callie asked peeking at Lena through her hair that was now all over the place.
"Sure" Lena agreed as she swung her legs over the side of the bed.
"What about mom?" Callie asked as she too climbed out of the bed, heading for the bag that had the yoga pants that Lena had picked up for her. She wanted to throw them over her pj boxers.
"She's tired" Lena whispered "She's not even moving, we'll just let her sleep for a bit."
Callie tossed her hair into a messy bun, as Lena opened one last bag she didn't touch last night and tossed Callie a baby blue hooded sweatshirt, while pulling out a yellow one for herself.
"Oh, I love this" Callie beamed "You thought of everything" She said happily pulling on the hoody. She'd seen the very same hoody with Lena last week while they were getting supplies at Target; she'd commented on how she really liked the color. "Thank you."
"I am a mom" Lena smiled "It's my job to think of everything" She too tossed her unruly locks into a bun on the top of her head. "I am just going to write mom a note" She explained as she grabbed the hotel pad of paper and scribbled to Stef that her and Callie had gone to find food.
Callie waited for Lena by the door, her stomach rumbled loudly causing her to let out an embarrassed giggle, as Lena looked over in amusement. "I am guessing you haven't had anything to eat since lunch yesterday."
Callie thought about it and shrugged "Molly didn't want her jello, so I had that at two am."
"Oh" Lena shook her head cringing at the thought of the only thing her daughter had consumed in twelve plus hours was jello. "My poor girl, let's get some food into your stomach." She placed the note where Stef could find it before leading Callie out of the room.
Lena and Callie quickly filled up plates and coffee mugs before finding a quiet table in the corner of the lounge.
Lena watched Callie spread some peanut butter on an English muffin, smiling at how delicate she was at it. Almost as if it were an art. If this was Jesus the peanut butter would have been plopped on the bread and the muffin would be half way in his mouth right now. She loved watching her kids, seeing how they worked, what made them tick. How each one of them did things so differently. She was raising some pretty awesome kids.
She took a sip of her hot tea and let it hit her throat, the warm liquid soothe her throat. Being tired always seemed to make everything achy. "Callie, do you want to talk about last night at all, with me? Before Jane and Charlie show up?"
Callie swallowed a bite of muffin and chased it down with some orange juice before picking up her coffee mug, holding it in her hands as she looked to Lena.
"I am okay" She promised.
"I know" Lena nodded "I see that, but if you want to talk.. Tell me what happened from your perspective."
Callie swirled her coffee around the mug focusing on the dark liquid "Um, it all happened really fast ya know" she said calmly "We were sitting on the street, and I felt like Charlie was never coming, I was cold, hungry and tired. Mom looked cold. I just didn't want to do it anymore" She explained "And I remember you saying we could quit at any point."
Lena nodded "Of course, I wanted you to have a say."
"I called to mom, and told her I wanted to go home." She went on sipping her coffee as she looked to Lena. "That's when things felt wrong. All of a sudden a white van came out of nowhere, and some guys with guns jumped out and grabbed me. They held a gun to me and threatened me. If uh Stef didn't do what they said."
Lena tilted her head to the side at Callie's slip from mom back to Stef, but chose to ignore it. The fear both of her girls must have felt. Her stomach churned thinking about it. Neither knew it was just all an elaborate set up. They were safe.
"We got thrown into the van" Callie went on as she went back to eating her muffing talking between bites. "It was dark, and I couldn't quit crying. I thought…." She shook her head, not wanting to relive those feelings. "Anyways for hours we traveled in that dark van, and Stef… Mom did her best to stay strong, even though she was shaking. She held me close. She was strong…. And then" Callie sighed "She sensed we were close to the destination, she started talking all scary like" Callie explained "I didn't like it, because I knew what she wanted me to do."
Lena picked at her own breakfast and nodded "She wanted you to run."
"Leave her" Callie corrected "She wanted me to leave her."
That's where Callie's emotions were hitting. Lena nodded to herself, that right there was going to be the issue they were going to be dealing with, out of this ordeal. Stef wanting Callie to leave her. Rationally it made sense, but emotionally it hurt. Callie had already lost one mom, the thought of losing another had probably done the most damage out of all of this.
"We got there, and they grabbed us" Callie went on "And mom was screaming at me to run, which I did. I ran. Mama I ran. I was running to you really. I had to get to someone that could get me you. You'd be the only person that could help me find her."
Lena's hands reached out and she grasped her daughter's hand. "You were brave."
Callie shrugged "As I was running a car caught up with me, and the next thing I know is Jane is on me. Bear hugging me to her. Forcing me to stop. It took a few minutes for me to stop screaming for help. That's when she told me the plan, and that I'd be seeing mom again really soon. She put me in the car, and I called you and the rest you know."
Lena shook her head, how traumatic for her kid. For her wife. They were strong, but was this too much?
She didn't have time to over think it, as Stef appeared at their table moments later with a sleepy smile on her face. "Morning my loves" She stole a piece of fruit off Callie's plate as she took a seat. "Charlie and Jane just called. They are on their way over. After we talk to them, they'll get us home. They've set us up with a rental car, so the three of us can make the trek home. Mini road trip" She winked at Callie. "Think we can get mama to stop at a candy store?"
Lena rolled her eyes but Callie nodded "That's a great possibility." She bit her lip. "Can I talk to Charlie alone, when he gets here for a little bit of it? Please?"
Stef and Lena exchanged glances before they nodded "I am sure we can work that out. Are you okay with talking to then? You don't have to."
Callie nodded "No, I am fine. We're fine. Charlie, he's innocent after all. I Just remembered something in all of this. He's been an innocent victim of this life, ever since he was born." She explained "I just had forgotten."
Stef stole a sip from Callie's coffee mug as she tilted her head to the side. "What, my love?"
"Charlie's mom was a prostitute, she got in when she was sixteen" She explained as she the memories came back to her. "She got pregnant when she was only seventeen, with Charlie's sister Crystal, a few years later she had Charlie. She'd tried to escape that world after he was born, and she managed to for a few years. Until the pimp, Charlie's father found them. He uh" Callie sighed "Murdered their mother, and took Crystal and disappeared. Probably sold Crystal for some money."
"Oh god" Lena shook her head "That's tragic."
Callie nodded as she snagged her coffee back from Stef, giving her a pretend glare. "I'd forgotten all about it, but it makes sense now. Charlie always told me, he was going to make as much money as he could selling video games, so he could find his sister and buy her back. So she'd be safe."
"He became a video gamer, and a detective" Stef questioned "Impressive."
"He's a genius, a socially awkward genius." Callie smiled "I knew he was harmless." She pushed her plate towards Stef. "I want to know, if he's ever succeeded in finding his sister."
"I don't know baby" Lena said honestly "In that world, maybe not, but he did save a lot of other sisters, mothers, and daughters. In Crystal's name."
Callie smiled to herself, "and I got to help him."
