The winds felt like they were angry as they whipped the Queen's braid back and forth. Even if she conjured up this storm, she wasn't prepared for just how weak she felt in it. Champion, her horse, nayed loudly as she grasped onto the reins. There was no time for healing...no time to wait for her body to recover, she had to act now...
Peace was what she desired. It was why she agreed to the uniting of two kingdoms...to protect her people. Her eyes closed tightly. Peace had not come. No, it was the screams of young children and blood poured onto Arrendale's ground that she dreamed of at night.
How long had she been at the northern mountain? How exactly were her armies doing? Kai had remained quiet while serving her. When she asked for a report, he would respond that Hans would inform her when he returned. Day after day, it was the same thing...after three days of no word from Hans, she knew she had no other choice. Anna needed her, Arrendale needed her...and Hans needed her.
"I promise I'll return her to you immediately. I'll hide in the mountains for a night and I'll bring her to you. I'll protect her, my Queen," Hans' eyes held hers before he bowed.
He had promised her. What was it about his eyes that made her so vulnerable and trusting? It was one of her weaker moments. The dizziness had passed and then she had somehow managed to pull herself up on Champion. God give her strength, she was going to end this no matter what it took.
...
I can't breathe! I can't...do this anymore! Just kill me already! Hans gripped the ropes around his neck. Pulled, pulled. Tried to catch his breath but there was no point. It would be only a few more moments before he either passed out or finally was released from this hell on earth.
Laughter. That familiar laughter.
His eyes opened to see the blurred face of his brother. Even if he couldn't see the pupils in his eyes, he could see the white grin on the King's face,"Where...is...the...wench?"
"You'll have to kill me...first...," he staggered as the rope was pulled tighter. A rope was tied to his throat and strung over a chain in the ceiling. So this was how they decided to get information from him? By strangling him?
Rupert guffawed,"You'll die protecting her? I thought you despised that little princess of yours...when I find her, little brother, I'll slither thrust and then I'll cut her heart out and make you watch. Do not test me, you fool." His patience was thinning.
The rope slacked at the king's command. Prince Hans dropped to the floor grasping for breath as if he had been under water for several minutes. Purple lined hosntnroat from the ropes. His hands cradled his neck, his body limp as he slumped to the ground. For a brief moment, he wished the ropes had just brought him death to end it.
"You'll never find her. She will freeze your heart before you even get a...chance to...-"
Laughter sliced through the air,"Is it possible our little brother had developed a crush on the ice queen!? I was referring to your Anna, but it will please me just as much to kill both of them...take him to the boat's cargo...I'll deal with him later..."
A guard tied Hans' hands once more before pulling him up.
Curse him for opening his mouth.
...
How long had she been sitting in the bushes? How could she unsee what had happened? Her heart had turned as hard as stone. Hans had protected her. Hans had killed two men to save her. Hans...her enemy...or so she thought. Closing her eyes, she thought of the lifeless eyes she saw before they went into hiding. That was someone she knew...that was a friend...that was one of the many subjects of Arrendale. This was her fault. If only...
"Anna?!"
Could it be?
Anna?!"
It was Kristoff...it was her love...her voice wanted to call for him, her mouth opened...closed...opened again. Not a single sound could form from her lips. Grasping onto the bush for support, she pulled herself up. Her legs were as numb as ice. How long had she been here?
Kristoff swirled at the sound, hand on his sword. "You're okay..."
Relief washed over him as he pulled her into his embrace. The embrace was not returned. A chill raced up his spine. Distancing himself, he saw her eyes were frozen in horror,"Anna, where is Hans?"
"..."
No response.
"Kristoff," his sister called over his shoulder and her eyes were wide,"there are two dead guards in the cave..." Sven shook his neck violently and the reins slapped against his fur. Even the reindeer felt the sheer horror that clung in the air.
"ANNA, WHERE IS HANS...?" Kristoff jerked her as if she were in a dream by the shoulders.
Tears pooled in the young princesses' eyes,"...t-they took him...they killed...they killed...I saw her, her life was snuffed out...and the b-blood..." Finally, her voice cracked.
"They took him where?"
Blood rushed to her head. The memories of Arrendale, the murder she saw, the blood. It all flooded her thoughts. Weakness teased her knees and her weight collapsed into Kristoff's arms immediately.
Sal looked at her brother,"We need to get her to the Queen."
"Yes...but where is Elsa?"
...
Gray skies swirled over the City. It looked like a heavy cloud of doom was sitting on top of her kingdom. Flames were in the distant south. Apparently, the Southern Isle had began to burn their defenses. The smell of death greeted her and the temptation to release the contents of her stomach assailed her.
Champion slowes his pace as if he could sense the queen's discomfort. Only a few minutes and she could be at the gate's entrance. "Oh, my people, what have I done?"
She refused to look around. Even from her peripheral vision, she could see bodies slumped in the snow. The pure white canvas had been splattered with red as if a child had dumped out an entire bottle of paint.
Death.
Everywhere.
Boats of the foreign city lined her fjord. So the enemy came to her peaceful city...invaded their gates and burned their homes. Bodies of her subjects lined the streets and the cry of her people caused her heart to burn.
I maybe weak, but as God as my witness, I will see justice done.
If they wanted war, they would have it.
Digging her heels into Champion, she urged him forward to the fjord.
Oh, sister, where are you? My dear heart, I love you. I am sorry for the hurt I brought on you. I'm sorry for forcing you to surrender your innocence and love of life for me. Take strength, Anna, this is going to end...no more...no one will hurt you or my people again...
Guards that stood at the dock looked at each other, then at Elsa, back to each other. They were smartly dressed in the garb of the Southern aisle, but their faces looked as confused as a child in a maze.
"Are you the snow queen?" One finally questioned with a sword slowly being drawn from its sheath.
Champion stomped his feet, snorted. Elsa smirked as her eyes stared at them,"I am she."
Four guards surrounded her horse slowly, the guard that spoke had pointed his sword at her,"No funny business, King Rupert has been looking for you high and low..."
"I see that...he could have just sent a telegram...he is good at that...I've been expecting him, but here I see he decided to invade my lands and hurt my people...this ,asks me very...very...angry..."
The reins of Champion were taken into the guard's hand slowly. Two of the men on the side unsheathed their swords. "Youre surrounded, my lady, there is no use to...run..." His voice trembled in fear.
He probably had heard the stories of how she could freeze a heart...or even freeze a person with a single touch. Her smile caused them to stand still,"Is this how you talk to a queen?"
A single applause caused everyone to jump on their toes. King Rupert, with laughter in his voice, spoke,"Well, said! You're right, Ice Queen, they should be shamed of how they welcomed you! You're my guest of honor...I've been waiting for you...please, come, we have much to discuss. Men, shall we show her majesty the proper respect? Help her down from her horse..."
Stories of Elsa were widespread. One touch, she would freeze you...one glance, you were dead.
"Help her, now..." King Rupert challenged his guard.
"I promise not to freeze you," the Queen hissed while extending her hand. The guard took her hand...sucked in his breath as he felt just how frozen her hands were...she released his hand, stares straight into the king's eyes,"I won't kill anyone...yet..."
King Rupert chuckled in amusement,"Come...we have much to discuss...one being why there was not a wedding...another is how did you make my ignorant little brother fall in love with a snake such as yourself?"
Elsa stared at the king.
Get Anna. Get Hans. Kill Rupert.
