Holy hell, this is my first story update of 2017. Bad Kyuubi, very bad. BUT to make up for it, I decided to dust off this Naruto/Weiss sequel I started around the end of Vol. 2. And since apparently NOBODY likes Naruto and Weiss as a pairing, I'll have to be the hero all 3 NaruWeiss fans deserve. Consider this a prequel to Library Distractions.

Chapter 13: The Dance that changed everything

A smile had shone brightly on the face of Naruto. Tonight was the night of the dance, and so far, he was having a ball. Despite not having a particular date to the dance, he was actually having a success on the dance floor as he had received quite a few invitations to dance from the female populace. Looking back on it now, he was thankful his mother taught him to dance as it was proving to be a big help to him right now. He even managed to dance with Yang and Blake (with Sun's permission of course). After a while, he grew tired and decided to rest near the punch bowl where he could grab a quick drink. Once there, he met his leader Ruby.

"Hey there Ruby, haven't seen you out there on the dance floor tonight." He said as he poured himself a glass of fruit punch.

"I'm not really much of a dancy-pantsy girl…" The team RWUBY leader bashfully stated.

"Well, just standing here isn't gonna change that. Come on, let's have a go out there." The blonde offered with his hand stretched out. The back and red haired girl slightly blushed before she politely declined with a shake of the head.

"Sorry Naruto. Maybe I can make it up to you with something else?" She asked.

"Fine, but you owe me one Rubes." He pouted. Looking across the room, he saw many students either talking, dancing, or sitting. But one sight had caught his attention more than any. It was of his white haired teammate Weiss Schnee although she wasn't her usual self. She usually had this snooty (in his opinion anyway) aura about her that exuded confidence, but now she sat alone and if her slumped shoulders were anything to go by, she was a little down.

"Hey, is Weiss okay?" Naruto asked. Ruby looked over her over in the heiress's direction and also took note of her partner's down expression.

"Now really, she has been pretty bummed; it might be because she didn't have a date to the dance. When I tried to talk to her about it, she didn't say much, only that she didn't have time to worry about something as silly as a date to the dance."

"That's 'cause you're not saying the right things to her. Here, hold my punch, our ice queen looks like she's in dire need of a Naruto Uzumaki chat." Naruto said as he handed his drink to his leader who immediately raised an eyebrow at him.

"Are you sure about this? You and Weiss aren't exactly best buddies…or, any kind of buddies to be honest." Ruby questioned; and she was right. Naruto and Weiss were like night and day, one was a girl who strived for perfection in even the smallest and most mundane tasks, never jumped into anything without some type of plan, and was, in some people's opinions, very uptight. The other was an easygoing, live in the moment, and go with the flow kind of guy. The two never seemed to talk to each other unless it was spewing insults at one another, and now one was about to attempt to cheer the other up.

"Don't worry, I'll be fine." Naruto reassured her and made his way over to where Weiss was sitting and took a seat right next to her. The two sat in silence, not making eye contact with each other for three good minutes until Naruto finally broke the silence.

"Yo." Was his ingenious greeting.

"Hi." The heiress bluntly replied.

"So…you're looking crabby…well crabbier than usual, and I don't think you know this, but you're super crabby; so much so that you could be bought and eaten at a seafood restaurant, ya know?" Naruto went on. Weiss looked at the blonde with her left eye twitching before she said:

"Did you just come here to insult me Uzumaki? Cause I'm not in the mood tonight for this…"

"Relax; I'm not here to pick a fight with you..." Naruto raised his hands in defense to further prove his statement. "You looked pretty down so I thought you could use someone to talk to."

The white haired girl's eyes wandered to the ground before she said: "I don't want to talk about it, especially with you."

Naruto let out a sigh as he stood up out of his chair and said: "Fine, whatever. I'm gone." He was three steps away from her before she spoke up again.

"Hey! You can't just leave like that!" That wasn't how that was supposed to go at all. After she said she didn't want to talk about it, he was supposed to give her comforting words that would ease her into pouring her heart out. Seriously, hasn't the guy seen any movies or read any books?

The whiskered blonde looked at the heiress and rolled his eyes. "I'm not gonna put up with all your melodrama ice queen." He said. "You can either tell me what's wrong, or just sit there and wallow all night." If it were any other member of his team, sans maybe Blake, he might've gone with a softer approach, but someone like Weiss needed a good kick in the ass before they would open up.

Weiss had an admittedly cute expression on her face, which involved her puffing out her cheeks and looking away from the blonde with an embarrassed face. "You're really horrible at comforting people Uzumaki…" she said.

"I call it showing tough love." Naruto said with a grin as he walked back over to the chair next to Weiss and sat back down next to her. "So what's got you down Weiss?"

The white haired girl looked deep in the cerulean blue eyes of her teammate, looking for some kind of deceit in that warm and infectious gaze of his. She was fully aware of where they stood as far as their relationship on the team stood. As far as she knew, the blonde was using this as some type of excuse for teasing materials.

But those damned eyes of his. They weren't the eyes of someone who wanted to poke fun at her or anything of the sort. They showed genuine concern for his teammate and their container was someone who wanted to support his friend.

With a sigh, the heiress began: "I…I asked Neptune to the dance last night…"

"Neptune? That guy with the blue hair? He seems pretty cool, I guess." Naruto stated. He didn't know Neptune very well, but the guy seemed to be a bit of a charmer; and now that she brought it up, the blonde did remember how bummed she was when she didn't get to partner up with Neptune in their investigation a couple of days ago.

Seeing the blue haired young man talking and joking with Sun and Blake, even someone as dense as Naruto could put the pieces together. "He turned you down, huh?"

That bluntness earned him another scowl from the Schnee company heiress, although it quickly deterred into her falling back into an upset slump. "I…I thought that there was something there between us, some kind of spark. But, I guess it was just me…"

The two sat in silence, allowing what Weiss just said to him to sink in. A few seconds later, the music changed. It was a slow song, but carried something of a regal feel to it. While she wasn't in the exact mood for it, Weiss was glad that the music had changed into one of the songs she picked out since the last several had been Yang's picks. If things had gone the way she wished, she'd been dancing with her ideal pick for a date. Instead, she was sitting here, wallowing away upset.

That's when something she saw Naruto sit up out of his chair. She should've known, his "attempts" at cheering her up only served to further depress her. But her cynical thoughts were put on a mental pause when she saw his right hand being extended to her. She looked up and saw an admittedly handsome looking grin on his face as he nudged his head towards the dance floor.

"Come on, let's have a dance out there." He stated.

The white haired girl looked down at the hand in front of her and back up at the blonde with a raised eyebrow. "You're kidding right?" She couldn't help but be rude.

"Just take my hand," he said with an exasperated tone. Weiss sighed and finally relented, talking the blonde's hand in hers.

What happened next she wasn't quite expecting. In spite of living with him for several months, Weiss never paid attention to Naruto's physique, but being pressed up close against him, and having his hands on her back, she definitely could feel just how…toned Naruto was, and the warmth of his body. He also had no problem leading with this slow dance. If this dance was her first time meeting Naruto Uzumaki, she would've assumed he was the most guy in the entire school.

"There was a girl I knew back before I attended Beacon," Naruto stated, snapping Weiss out of her musing.

"…What?" Weiss said.

"I knew her back when we were eleven. She had pink hair and this nice, pretty forehead that you just wanted to kiss." He informed her a, slight blush on his face. "We were actually pretty good friends, and when I found out we were both going to Sanctum, I couldn't be happier."

"What happened between the two of you?" Weiss asked. This story sounded happy, very happy. But from the way Naruto was telling it, it sounded like things hadn't gone well between the two of them.

"All of sudden, one day, this guy transferred to Sanctum. He hard dark hair totally shaped like a duck's butt, and he seemed to be totally full of himself with his whole "Lone wolf" shtick, ignoring everything and everyone. Don't know what girls saw in that."

"Sounds like someone's still a little bitter…" Weiss joked.

"Anyways," Naruto decided to move on with his story. "Before I knew it, I started to see less and less of my friend, she developed a crush on the new guy pretty quickly, and before I knew it, she started hanging around him more and more. Every time, he'd turn her down and I was there to sort of pick up the pieces. I thought if I kept consoling her then maybe she'd see me as more than just a friend.'

"…She never did, did she?"

It sucked to hear that, but in hindsight, Naruto was able to laugh it off nowadays. "Nah, in fact she eventually wore him down and they started dating. When that happened, I barely saw her, and then we graduated and went our separate ways. I thought after all the time we spent as pretty good friends, that maybe she would've thought that we could've been more. Guess I was wrong…" He said with a shrug of the shoulders.

"…I'm sorry about that," Weiss apologized. As painful as getting rejected by Neptune was, she couldn't imagine spending so much time pining for someone only for the reciprocate of those feelings to go ignored and for that person to fall for someone else; and no, her and Jaune didn't count. There was a difference when you spent all that time pining for someone and that someone CONSTANTLY said no. Not her fault he couldn't take the hint.

But hearing this story did bring something to Weiss's attention: "Why did you tell me this?"

"Cause I know how much it sucks to get turned down by someone. Besides I couldn't stand around and watch a friend mope around all night."

Friend. Hearing that from Naruto actually surprised her. She acknowledged him as her teammate and an acquaintance, but between everyone on Team RWUBY, they were the furthest from being actual friends, at least in her eyes. "Funny, I didn't think you considered me a friend." She stated.

"Course I do. You, Blake, Yang, and Ruby. You're all my friends." The whiskered blonde stated matter of factly. "Sure, you come across as snobbish, a prude, and a know-it-all," These comments earned him a glare. "But despite that, you ARE really smart, you're cute, a great singer, and deep down, you're a kind person. You'd make for a heck of a girlfriend."

Weiss's cheeks turned tomato red. So long. For so long she was used to hearing compliments, and being told sweet nothings from boys here age simply because her last name was Schnee. Never before had she heard things like that from a person her age and of the opposite sex and it sounded so...genuine.

She looked up and for the first time she got a real look in his eyes. She could see the see the depth in those deep blue pools. She was able to see past his goofy behavior, the braggart that they normally saw, the occasional prankster; and she honestly saw that despite all they saw on the surface, that he was one of the most mature members of the team.

A smile shone on her face. A small, fabulous smile that went completely against her nickname of ice queen. As a matter of fact, Naruto's words actually caused a strange warmth to form in the pit of her chest, and the blush never left her face.

"Weiss, you okay?" Naruto froze for a few seconds due to Weiss snuggling closer to his chest. The display of emotion was so sudden that Naruto didn't know what his next action should be. Although the response could be because of WHO was doing the action rather than the action being done. "Uh..." Was the only intelligent statement he could make.

This response caused Weiss to sigh and dryly tell the blonde: "Just enjoy the dance..."

"O-Okay, sure..." Naruto wrapped his hands around Weiss's waist as he allowed himself to groove along with the slow rhythm of the music.

Weiss sighed once again at the feel of his hands on her, but this sigh was one filled with bliss. At this moment, she really did feel like a princess dancing with her prince. There was something in the back of her head that was nagging her for allowing herself to feel like this with Naruto Uzumaki of all people, but at the moment, her heart was telling her that this felt so SO right.

What neither teen noticed was that in the upper level of the building, their team leader along with their sister were watching the actions taking place between teammates and friends. With this, and Blake enjoying herself at the dance, everything seemed to come out on top for Team RWUBY.

Naruto and Weiss were quietly returning to their room after a rather fun night at the dance...or at least they would be had Naruto stopped giggling.

"How much longer are you going to laugh at that?" Weiss couldn't help but question.

"How aren't you still?" Retorted Naruto. "Even if I didn't get pictures of it, I'll never get the image of Jaune in a dress out of my head." He went back to his giggling charade immediately after.

"I find the image to be more disturbing than actually funny..." The heiress stated. Although to be fait to Jaune, him showing up in the ridiculous clothing did manage to make Pyrrha laugh and cheer her up. She didn't see much of the red head before that point, but from the couple of glances she got, the prodigy huntress was just as down as she was.

Speaking of herself, her eyes darted over to the whiskered blonde walking right next to her. She gave him a smile and said: "Thank you Uzu-Naruto." She corrected herself, addressing him by his first name for the first time, a fact that wasn't lost ON Naruto.

The two finally made it to their door, and it was there Naruto decided not to make a big issue over her calling him by his first name. Instead, he shrugged and made a reach for the door knob. "Don't sweat it, princess. Like I said, I would've done it for any of my friends."

"Friends, right..." While his back was still turned to her, Weiss gained a certain glint in her eyes, and for reasons that she couldn't explain, she gave him a quick peck on the cheek, causing Naruto to freeze up for the second time that night. And since he hadn't made ant movement to walking inside the room, she slipped right past him and reached for the door knob, which the blonde completely released from his grasp after Weiss's actions. Before opening the door and walking in, she turned around to smirk at the young Huntsman in training and leave him with:

"You know, if you weren't such a loud mouthed knucklehead, you'd actually make for a pretty nice boyfriend yourself..." and with that she went inside the room.

Five...Fifteen...Thirty seconds go by before Naruto's brain rebooted and the events that just transpired processed in his mind; and in all that time, the only word that he could spit out after this development was. "What...?"

XXX

As soon as she was inside, Weiss quickly grabbed her night gown and made a B-line for the bathroom. She was thankful that the rest of the team hadn't made it back yet, otherwise they would've seen her red in the face and locked into another battempt of mind and heart. Her mind was slamming her, questioning her rash Ruby-esque behavior and actions. After a good minute of mental raving, she took a deep breath to clear her mind.

'Just calm down Weiss. It was just a dance, and the kiss was simply just you repaying him for an admittedly fun evening. Nothing more, nothing less.' But as she tried to convince herself with that reasoning, the flashes of the dance replayed in her mind: His sweet words, those beautiful eyes, the warmth of his hands and how safe and comfortable she felt in them...

She shook her head of those thoughts immediately. 'STOP IT WEISS!' She mentally yelled. 'Okay, so Uzumaki can be very handsome and charming when he wants to be,' she admitted to herself. 'It doesn't mean you're suddenly going to fall for him. He's still...Uzumaki.' Charming or not, there's no way she'd consider hooking up with Naruto.

He was still too much of a dunce for her liking.

Chapter End

Yay! That's one chapter I can finally put to bed! To those asking what about Cinder sneaking onto Beacon when this was going on um...I'm pulling the AU card out of my deck on that one. I apologize for OOCness if u guys feel that in some cases. Also, if the last 3rd of this chapter seems different from the first 2 3rds, that's because I typed most of it up at my school's library and had to finish the rest on my phone, which for those wondering, is not a fun way to write fanfics. Hopefully when I finish this semester of school, I'll have saved up enough money from my job to buy a new laptop. But enough of my personal woes, I'll see you all in the next chapter of For the Love of RWUBY!
