Enjoy!

"Space. The final frontier." Kayla looked up from her telescope at the boy who had said that, raising an eyebrow. She turned to look at another boy as they continued what the first had started.

"These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise."

"It's five-year mission," the first boy, Erik, picked up again, "to explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go-"

"Where no one has gone before," Sarah interrupted.

Kayla rolled her eyes and gave an exhasperated sign. Muggleborns. She was half-blood herself. Muggleborns tried too hard though, and messed up so royally... Not that the pure-bloods noticed.

The three started humming the star trek theme song loudly as the majority of the class—including the professor—stared on in complete incomprehension.

It was sad really. They were in Scotland, and they felt the need to quote an American show. Kayla sighed again. I suppose it's up to me to fix this.

Taking a deep breath, she opened her mouth and started belting out a different melody, cutting off the three idiots. "Dun dun dun, dun dun dun, dun dun dun, dun dun dun, dun dun dun, dun dun dun, dun dun dun, ooOOEEEOOooo, ooooOOeeeooOO." It was a difficult theme song to capture, but she did her best, everyone staring at her now. She closed her eyes to block them out as she continued to sing.

Finishing up the Doctor who theme, she kept going, determined to make her point. "Do do do do, da da do do, do do do do, da da do do, Torchwood! Outside the government, beyond the police. Tracking down alien life on Earth and arming the human race against the future. The 21st century is when everything changes and you've got to be ready!"

She took a breath and continued on, even as her face flushed. This may not have been worth it. "A month ago, I thought danger meant forgetting my homework. A week ago, I thought saving the planet meant climate change. Yesterday, I thought alien life forms came from Dad's cooking. Today, I met Sarah Jane.

"Thirteen Bannerman Rd is where Sarah Jane Smith lives and it's home to things way beyond your imagination. There's an extraterrestrial super-computer in the wall, a genetically engineered boy genius in the attic, a schoolgirl turned alien investigator across the road, and a whole universe of adventure, right here, on the doorstep. Ready? Always!"

Kayla opened her eyes and shot the three people from before a mild glare. "This isn't America. Don't do the star trek thing."

Bright red, she turned back to her telescope to finish the assignment, praying she wouldn't get in trouble.

As she looked up at the stars, she heard only awed silence and all she could think was that she really shouldn't have had those energy drinks earlier.

A slow clap started with the three and most of the class—including the professor!-joined in, applauding her.

Kayla nearly fainted, only staying grounded by tightly clutching her telescope. Did I really just do that!?

And then, Marcus—the most fervent of the pure-blood fanaticists in their year—spoke up. "What in all the ten hells was that?" And Kayla giggled right along with the rest of the class.
