It had taken them almost an hour of aimless wandering and countless suggestions from Serena that they should just take a taxi or even just ask someone; however they had finally found the hotel. They had passed about four others on their way here but they had decided that they wanted this one. They walked into the familiar reception hall. A floor of white marble and high ceilings from which chandeliers hung, bathing they entire room in light; people were sitting on the many couches that were scattered about the room. They walked up to the reception and to a blonde woman smiling at them.

"Good afternoon. How can I help you two?"

"Hi. We'd like a room please." Ash said.

"Okay. We have a few." She then went on to explain the different types of rooms the hotel had available. Ash turned to Serena.

"Which one do you want?"

"I don't mind." Ash selected one of the smaller rooms.

"And how long will the two of you be staying?"

Ash looked at Serena again, who gave a blank look back. Ash sighed and then said. "Two weeks." That was a definite lie; they'd be here at least a month.

The receptionist began typing away. "Name please."

"Ash Ketchum." A small gasp escaped the receptionist. She then took a closer look at Ash then said quickly.

"One moment please." She walked off and came back a minute later with someone who could only be the manager. He was of about fifty with grey hair and a pair of thin glasses were hanging from the breast pocket of his black suit. He peered over the desk. "Mister Ketchum, on behalf of the hotel I am pleased to offer you the honeymoon suite at no extra charge." He spoke with a bland, deep voice.

The couple just stared in disbelief. "We…we're not on our honeymoon." Was all Ash managed to get out.

"That is fine. But as the current holder of the Kalos league we would like to give you access to the best room in the hotel. Which is the honeymoon suite." Before Ash could protest that this was all unnecessary. Serena quickly spluttered.

"Thank you." Ash gave her a stare but Serena just grinned back. The group then went through the formalities before the manager waved to a doorman. "Zachary will show you to your room." The manager passed him the key and told him. "The honeymoon suite." He nodded.

"Can I take any of your bags?"

"Oh, thank you." Serena said handing him her bag, a beaming smile on her face.

"I'm okay." Ash replied. Zachary gave them both a smile as he shouldered Serena's bag and showed them to an elevator. He stepped aside and allowed the couple to walk in first. The two stepped in and the doorman followed. He swiped the car in a reader on the side of the lift and pressed the button to floor eight. "Seeing as you're on the executive floor, you'll have to swipe the card to get up to your floor." Ash and Serena nodded to show they understood. As the floors went by Zachary turned to face Ash. "I'm sorry if I'm bothering you but I have to say that I'm a fan of yours." Ash immediately raised his eyebrows at this.

"A fan?" Ash asked. The doorman nodded. "Of me?" Ash needed to clarify this. Sure he'd had people in the stadium cheering for him. But that was just because he was there and everyone loves an underdog. He'd never met someone who'd actually call themselves a fan of his. He had no idea how to react to this. Should he just play it cool? Should he offer an autograph or picture? No that definitely seemed too vein. "Gee…thanks. I guess."

"All throughout the Kalos League I was routing for you. As soon as I saw the highlights of the first round I knew you'd go far." Again Ash had no idea how to respond, but luckily he was saved by the bell of the doors opening signally that they'd reached their floor.

Zachary showed them down a long corridor with dark turquoise carpet and white walls. Doors along this corridor were a lot less frequent than the floor where they had stayed the last time. Eventually they reached a large black door with a small sign on it that read in golden letters. Honeymoon Suite. After swiping the key card, Zachary led them into the room. Ash was awestruck by it. The beauty of the room that had been gifted to him by someone he hadn't known before ten minutes ago. The floors were polished white marble. The wallpaper had an intricate white floral design. They walked into a large living room which had two sofas pointed at a large television. Zachary walked past the living room and led the couple into the bedroom, where the largest bed Ash had ever seen waited for them. Lying on top of the huge fluffy sheets were a set of towels shaped to resemble two Swanna. Ash felt a weight against his arm; he turned to see Serena looking up at him a large smile on her face. It was only at this point that Ash tuned back in and realised that the door man had been telling them information this entire time.

"Breakfast is from seven until ten thirty but if you miss it our room service has a selection of items available twenty-four seven. Is there anything else you need?" Ash and Serena shook their heads. "Well I wish you a very happy stay with us." He placed Serena's bag on the floor by the bed and walked out of the room. Ash followed him to the door and gave the doorman a tip.

"Thank you, sir." He said before walking back down the corridor. As Ash shut the door he almost crashed through it when Serena bounded into him, excited giggles escaping from her mouth.

"Can you believe this?" She said. "They just gave it to us. I knew that you being everyone's favourite underdog would get us a few perks. But I thought they would be on the lines of a free ice cream or a drink on the house at a bar. Not a free hotel room with an amazing view and kick ass bed."

Ash had never really thought about the perks of winning a competition other than the glory and fame. Although he guessed fame and freebies went hand in hand. "It's crazy." He said. Walking back into the bedroom with Serena. He dropped his bag by the bed as he heard Serena scream a few feet away from him. Ash rushed into the bathroom to find Serena once more grinning like a mad woman.

"Hot-tub." Was all she said. Sure enough she was staring at the main occupant of their ginormous bathroom. A large square hot tub. "I want to try it."

"Now?" Ash asked checking the time. Half four in the afternoon was hardly a regular time for a dip in a hot tub.

"Why not?" Serena stated turning on the tap. Hot water began to pour out of it slowly filling the large basin. "That's going to take at least ten minutes so what do you want to do?"

Ash raised his eyebrows. "I can think of a few things."

Serena rolled her eyes and slapped him playfully on the arm, sighed then said. "I know the exact sort of things you're thinking of. And no." Ash let out a disappointed groan. So the two of them began unpacking their things whilst the hot tub filled with water. "Okay. It's done." Serena said turning on the jets. The noise of them filling the entire suite. They removed their clothes and got in the tub. After they had each washed themselves, and some of each other. Serena caught Ash staring at her. "What?" She asked.

"You're beautiful." Was all he said. A smile appeared on her face but to Ash's surprise was quickly replaced by a frown. "What is it?" He asked.

"It's just, you might not be saying that to me much in the next few months." She told him. She had given a lot of silent thought to this for the past few days. The way that her body would change.

Ash looked into her eyes and saw the worry in them. "There will never be a day that I don't find you beautiful." He brought her lips close to his and gave her a long kiss to reinforce his point. When it ended he could see some of the doubt had vanished.

However; Serena knew that it was all well and good for Ash to say these things now. But would he still mean them in a few months when every part of her was swollen and heavy and she had a baby growing inside her, every day getting bigger. Serena tried to force this thought from her mind and just enjoy this moment. The warm water, the relaxing bubbles and the company of her fiancé.

After they had dried off and gotten dressed, Serena went to the room phone.

"Who are you calling?" Ash asked.

"The concierge, to get the hospital number. I need to get the baby checked up on."

"Oh, good idea."

Serena smiled then began speaking into the phone. "Oh hello I was wondering if you could tell me the number of the hospital." After the concierge gave them a number. "Thank you." Before Ash could get a word in Serena dialled the number. Serena quickly arranged an appointment, thanked the receptionist and hung up. "Tomorrow at 3:30." She said with a smile beaming across her face. "You will come with me won't you?" Serena asked.

"Of course I will. What do you want to do for the rest of the evening?"

"Well we could…" before she could finish giving her suggestion Serena hunched over, she felt as if she had just been kicked in the stomach. She tried to speak but all that came out was a wheeze of air. Pain tore through her abdomen. She let out a cry. Seeing this Ash rushed over to check that she was okay.

"Serena, what's wrong?" Ash's heart was beating faster. His breathing quickened. Panic set in. Worst case scenarios filled his mind. He tried his best to push them back and hear Serena's answer.

"Ash…" Serena grabbed a hold of Ash's top and pulled him towards her. "Ash, it hurts."

Serena's legs buckled beneath her and she dropped to her knees with a smack. She didn't notice however. Her thoughts were solely about her stomach, which seemed to be on fire at the moment. She'd had cramps before, every woman had, but this was something else. It felt like a vice had been put around her body and with each second was being tightened. She tried to think about something else, tried to take in what was going around her, but all she saw was Ash dashing out the room. Help, she thought, Ash was going to get her help. Serena thanked her lucky stars that Ash had been here. Serena was starting to burn, she was sweating profusely and her breath became more and more laboured. Soon it wasn't just her stomach that hurt, her whole body began to feel heavy and sore. Serena cried out in pain again and again. She hoped that Ash would be back soon. What if Ash wasn't coming back? What if no-one was coming to help her? As Serena began to panic more and more her cries became louder and louder.

Ash sprinted down the hall way, he could here Serena screaming in pain, the ambulance was on its way and would be here soon. He unlocked the door and found Serena doubled over lying on the floor, shouting. He ran over a cradled her head in his lap. He tried his very best to not read into the large red stain that now adorned the top of Serena's sky blue jeans. He told her that help would be here shortly, he reassured her that everything would be okay. He wanted to believe what he was saying but as his lap began to dampen with Serena's tears, the doctors seemed aeons away and everything most assuredly was not okay.

Serena could feel that she was being moved she didn't know who was moving her and she didn't care. She was no longer alone and that calmed one terrifying train of thought. Serena quietened her cries into grunts of pain and frustration. She could hear sirens coming from the street below. She told herself that this meant help was coming. Serena waited for the wave of relief that accompanied help arriving, however it didn't come, she was still very hot and in so much pain that it didn't matter what else was happening.

As Ash held his fiancé in his lap and tried to calm her with reassuring words two paramedics rushed into the room accompanied by a wheeled stretcher. They quickly interrogated Ash about what had happened and a few bits of personal info. Then as one paramedic slid Serena onto the stretcher the other pulled Ash aside and asked. "Could she be pregnant?"

To which Ash replied. "Yes, she is." Immediately Ash could see that the paramedic knew what had happened, but before he could ask what it was he and his colleague were wheeling Serena out of the room. Ash hurried behind them desperate not get left behind. As they reached the elevator it became apparent that all of them would not fit inside the cramped space. Ash wanted to take a step back, wanted to concede his space to someone who could help Serena, but his legs just wouldn't move. They were rooted into the hotel floor. As the doors dinged open it took the full force of Ash's willpower to not attempt to follow the paramedics into the small box. One of the paramedics turned to Ash and hurriedly said "It will take us a moment to load her into the ambulance. Do you want us to wait for you?" Ash gave a quick shake of his head, tears filled his eyes at the thought of leaving her. The doors took an eternity to close. Slowly moving together with a quiet creak. The moment they had shut Ash jabbed the call button as fast as he could. He now wished they hadn't been given the honeymoon suite. It was too high up for him to sprint down the stairs. However; as he saw the small numbers of the display for Serena's elevator count down to the first floor, the other stood still. And the stairs became a more and more lucrative option. Eventually Ash couldn't take it anymore. He cursed anything and everything that came to mind and raced toward the staircase. He galloped down the floors leaping as early as he could. His breathing became quicker and his lungs started burning. He didn't even slow down to check what floor he was on, he just kept running. Eventually he ran out of stairs and barrelled through the door into the lobby and sprinted out. Ash looked around for the exit and the flashing lights of the ambulance caught his eyes to his right. He rushed across the floor to the exit. As he burst out onto the street his eyes took a moment to adjust to the twilight sun. Ash's heart sank as he saw he was too late and the ambulance was a few hundred yards down the road.

Ash desperately looked around for a cab. He watched the traffic for what felt like years and eventually managed to flag one down. The driver pulled up infuriatingly slow for Ash. He dived into the backseat.

"Where to?" The driver asked calmly.

"The hospital." Ash tried to say however it came out more as a wheeze. He repeated himself for clarification "The hospital please. As quick as possible." Ash tried to regain his breath as the driver started towards the hospital. Ash knew about Lumiose city and the hospital was on the other side of the city. He tried to keep calm and not think about how Serena was in the ambulance. He tried to think about the last few weeks and all that had happened to him and how his life had changed. However; the thought that stuck in his head was that he would trade it all for Serena to be okay. He wanted her to be alright, not to be hurt.

The cab driver had realised Ash wasn't a particularly talkative customer. Ash just sat in the back mumbling to himself. He could tell that whoever was at the hospital was someone important and they were in a bad way. He pressed the gas a little more than he usually would.

It took them just under fifteen minutes to get across the city to the hospital. Ash was starting to tire, but as he saw the large sign for the hospital a fresh burst of adrenaline flooded his body. He paid the driver and rushed into the reception.

"Can you tell me where Serena Yvonne is please?" Ash asked the receptionist. He was breathing heavily. His legs were aching from sprinting. The receptionist typed in the name.

"She just came in. She was taken to the maternity ward. Take the elevator to the fourth floor turn right and it'll be at the end of the hallway" Ash had thanked the woman and was halfway to the elevators before she had completely finished her sentence. Ash dodged three people leaving one as he approached the cluster of four elevators. He tapped the button for the fourth floor again and again until the doors sluggishly closed. Ash began to ascend but stopped sooner than expected. On the third floor two doctors entered who smiled at Ash and continued their conversation. Ash smiled back but cursed them internally. As the three of them reached the fourth floor and the door opened Ash hurried outside and took off down the hallway. He passed nurses and doctors going both ways one of whom scolded him for sprinting. He skidded up to the maternity reception and asked. "Where is Serena Yvonne?" The receptionist's face sank and she looked past Ash and called over a nurse.

"Nina, this man is here to see the girl who just came in. Could you take him to her," then she added quietly, "and tell him."

The nurse ushered Ash down a narrow hallway at a brisk pace, and as they were halfway down she turned to him and said. "Before we get to the room I should tell you. You have my deepest sympathies, I'm afraid your girlfriend has lost her baby."
