Katie had taken Free to the chasm, hardly anyone went there so even with the roaring water it was probably still the calmest place in the compound. Free was taking deep, slow breaths as Katie talked away at her as if nothing had even happened and it actually made Free feel better as she stared out over the fence that stopped her from falling. A light spray of cool water hit Free from the water spilling over the chasm.
"Free?" A voice said to her left, she looked over and saw Eric standing there, he looked worried. Katie glared at him, "I think you've caused quite enough trouble for one morning." She said and Free was grateful, she knew how much Eric actually scared Katie. "Katie," Free said putting a hand on her friend's shoulder, "It's okay I got it from here." Katie looked relieved but even so she shot one last glare towards Eric and walked off in the other direction.
"Free, I'm sorry. I should have said something, anything." Eric began to talk but Free cut him off.
"Yeah, you should have but you didn't." She said, her voice above a normal level, "Do you know how hard it was to show you my darkest fears?" She yelled, "I knew you wouldn't be happy about the last but I still let you in! Because that's what you wanted, you wanted to know me!" Eric walked towards but Free carried on yelling, "I didn't want to let you in, I tried so hard to stop you looking any further than the surface but you kept looking so I showed you and you… You…" She was angry, really angry. Eric stood in front of her now, he watched her carefully.
"Free," He said, that was it, just her name but it was enough to stop her talking. He was watching her again, she couldn't take her eyes away from his. He spoke again, "Free, I lo-" He didn't have chance to finish that sentence before Free's arms had woven round his neck and her lips were planted firmly on his. He was a little shocked to say the least but after only a moment of hesitation, he kissed her back. Her lips tasted sweet, like her smell it was more of a candy sweet, not chocolate.
His fingers found their way into her tangled hair and he pulled her closer. Free's heart beat was so loud that she was certain it could be heard even over the noise of the falling water in the chasm. A moment later Free pulled away, lack of oxygen making her a little light headed. The two stared at each other for what seemed like hours but was really a only a minute, then Free turned on her heel and walked away, leaving Eric alone on the bridge over the chasm.
Super short chapter, sorry about that. I'm kinda losing my muse so I'll probably see you guys in another year? Right? Haha I'm just kidding… Maybe. Any words of encouragement would be gratefully accepted. ~RainbowVeins
