"Valkyrie-" Skulduggery began then stopped. "Um, pass me the glue."

"Fine." She replied with a scowl. From the other end of the table, Saracen and Dexter smirked.

"Lovers tiff?" Saracen asked and the pair both giggled. Valkyrie and Skulduggery both looked at them and glared. Well Valkyrie was glaring. Skulduggery was doing his skeleton smile. Dexter guessed he was inwardly glaring. Ooh yes. He could feel the hostility. Sort of.

"We're not dating," Valkyrie said, "because someone snogged China at Eliza Scorn's birthday party."

"I didn't. And why should you care anyway if you don't want to go out with me?" Skulduggery retorted.

"Good question, Skul," Dexter smirked.

"Shut up." Valkyrie pouted. "I can't believe you're all being so mean to me. I'm going to call Fletcher up and ask him out."

"Go ahead," Skulduggery said.

"I will."

"Do it. I don't care."

"Calling him now." She held up her phone.

"Not being bothered right now." Skulduggery glued sheets into his English book. Valkyrie scowled as the call went through. Did she really have to ask Fletcher out now so she didn't bruise her pride? Damn her stubbornness.

"Val?"

"Oh, um, hi, Fletcher," she looked up and saw Skulduggery pause in his glueing. "I was wondering if you wanted to go out with me sometime. To get a pizza or something? See a movie?"

"Sure. How about n-"

"Not now. Tomorrow? I'm busy now. Very busy...can I call you back?" Valkyrie asked. Skulduggery looked up at her and adjusted his hat. That was a smug look. That was a very smug and annoying skeleton look!

"Yeah. Sure, Val. I can't wait until tomorrow. See y-"

She hung up and looked at Skulduggery. "Ha. Now I have a date and you don't."

"I can get a date," he said. "Just let me call up Eliza Scorn. Or China. Maybe even someone you hate. Like Melancholia."

"I don't hate her. She hates me," Valkyrie said. "It's something to do with how jealous she is of my stunning good looks."

Skulduggery snorted. "It's not that. It's probably your clothes."

"Ghastly's clothes, you mean?" She scowled.

"Precisely." Skulduggery said. She turned her back on him and he sighed. "Val-"

"Shut up, Skulduggery."

"You."

"You."

"Y-" Skulduggery began then Valkyrie turned round and punched him. He fell over and landed on the floor. Valkyrie threw a pen at him and then stormed out.

Dexter and Saracen stared at each other. "Lovers tiff," Dexter said. Saracen nodded.
