Chapter 16 Preview.

Reckoning

A soft glow of candle light, kiss the edges of Blair's face as she laid on her stomach against the soft furs. Two weeks, it was as she sat in her room, waiting for answers. The culprit wasn't found and even though most of the castle trusted her, she was still confined to her room. She went nowhere without an escort from either Dougal or Jamie, they wouldn't let anyone else walk her places for the fear of the unknown. It was maddening to Blair, her freedom that she had was stripped away without a thought. She raked her thoughts trying to find if someone had an issue with her, and maybe this was the result. Her trips out to the market were watched, and mostly done with Dougal, who would end up carrying almost all of her supplies, even with her protest. Jamie would take her on rides to help clear her mind when he was able, he would whisper sweet words to her to help her feel at ease. Sadly nothing could make her feel entirely better about the situation, she now found herself in.

"A bird in a cage," Blair whispered into the darkness, as she rolled to her side to see Jamie sleeping besides her.

"Aye?" Jamie mumbled against the covers and opened one of his eyes to see Blair looking at him before he opened the other, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing, and everything," She whispered and felt Jamie move the covers and pull her close, "I want this figured out and it has been two weeks already."

"I know," Jamie replied and ran his hand up her back "Sleep can't do anything in the middle of the night."

"What if, they can't find the person? What will happen to me?" Blair questioned.

"Lass, it will be alright," Jamie spoke softly "Now sleep, ye driving me mad."

"I can't sleep," Blair whispered.

"You will," Jamie spoke and then began to rub up and down Blair's back with soft soothing caresses. "Sleep…..sleep."

The warmth of the fire, the gently caresses from Jamie, and his light breathing were beginning to become a lullaby for Blair. Taking her into the realm of sleep faster than she thought he was going to be able to. Jamie could hear Blair's breathing beginning to slow, he knew she worried about the letter. Colum had showed him the letter after he showed Blair and it worried him. Someone was trying to get rid of Blair or at least trying to get her out of Castle Leoch. He was going to put a stop to it.
