Disclaimer: I don't own Young Justice.

It had been 2 months since Artemis died.

It was a standard covert mission. A strange warehouse that needed to be investigated. It started out fairly normal. Arriving, getting into position, Robin hacking into the computer and the team taking out the minor guards. They were almost done, too. Almost ready to get back on the Bio- ship, go back to the cave, debrief and enjoy the night.

Then it all went wrong.

A gunshot fired. A scream filled the air. A life ended.

Superboy picked her up. They didn't know the shot killed her. They thought she was bleeding out. Miss M. used her telepathy to destroy the gun. They hurried to the Bio- ship, not knowing the rush was in vain.

While they were on the Bio- ship, Robin checked her vitals. He couldn't believe it. He told them.

The world seemed to collapse.

Connor was furious, his fists tightening until his knuckles were white. Wally raged, he screamed and slammed his his fists repeatedly into the walls of the Bio- ship. M'gann sobbed, barely able to keep the Bio- ship flying. Kaldur was horrified, he had lost a teammate, he was the leader, he should have saved her. Zatanna cried, Artemis was her best friend. Raquelle was silent, she didn't know Artemis very well, now she'd never get to know her better.

The League thought they were joking. When they finally realized it wasn't a prank, even Red Arrow was silent.

It was a lovely service. Funded by Bruce Wayne and her coffin was buried in a cemetery of heroes.

Young Justice almost disbanded. They fought back, they said that they needed to be together even more now. They weren't assigned to missions for months.

It was hard when they were in their secret identities. Their secret IDs didn't lose anyone. They had to act happy. Like nothing had happened.

Robin had it hard at Gotham Academy. He walked past her locker everyday. Sometimes the teachers would accidentally read her name during attendance. He still had the photo from the first day. It was his screensaver now.

"We'll laugh about this one day."

Now they wouldn't be able to.

Richard Grayson was heading to class, his friend Jack by his side.

"Dick, can I borrow your phone for a second?" Jack asked. The only response was the phone being handed to him.

Jack took the phone and turned it on, to show a picture of Dick with some blond girl.

"Hey, who's this?" he asked, showing the picture to him.

Dick smiled sadly.

"A friend."
