AN: Thanks for the support to all those who read the previous chapter. Story wise I think Avatar action will begin soon…

The smell of bread toast filled the bedroom as bright sunlight made its way through windowpanes to her face. Katara groggily woke up from her deep slumber. She looked around to see herself neatly tucked in her bed. "Didn't I sleep on the couch? Maybe it's all just a dream…" Katara wondered as she rubbed her eyes.

She followed the pleasant smell of breakfast as she saw a tall lanky man cooking at the kitchen with his back facing her. Katara hoping to watch him in action edged towards the kitchen table trying to be as silent as possible but her footsteps gave it away soon. Aang swiftly turned around and greeted her with the cheeriest smile.

"Top of the morning to ya Katara!"

Katara giggled, "What's cooking? Irish Potatoes?" she said as she smiled at the fact that Aang was the first person she met in the morning.

Aang laughed as he handed her a cup of coffee, "Noooo! Scrambled eggs with mashed…potatoes" he ended with a playful defeat in his tone.

She took a sip of the coffee as Aang prepared breakfast and quite clearly attempting to show off his air bending whilst cooking. Katara nevertheless was amused.

"I don't know why Aang but all this still feels like a blur to me" Katara verbalized her confusion to Aang.

Before she could finish Aang turned around and gave a sheepish smile, "about that hehe sorry about last night…I don't know how the cactus juice got me so high. But thanks for bringing me to safety, yaknow if not I would have been lying around in the streets hehe"

Katara smiled at his innocence but still wondering why she was in the bed, "But how did I get to the bed? I clearly remember sleeping on the couch..." she spoke genuinely curious.

"Oh that was your confusion?" Aang fiddled his thumbs as he spoke, "Well… you seemed uncomfortable in the couch as your posture would have hurt your neck…so I kind of shift you to your bedroom"

Katara let a long 'oh' escape as thoughts about Aang cradle carrying her gently enough to not wake her up and many more filled her mental image. She turned away as she sensed her cheeks heating up fast. However, her smile vanished with his next statement.

"You never told me that Chief Hakoda was your father?" Aang spoke as he peeked at a family photo that hung on the magnetic photo frame on the fridge while sautéing the sauce.

Though Katara was surprised he knew her father, she was more disappointed at the recalling memories of him, "Well he plays the role of chief more than Father…so yeah…"

Aang looked puzzled, "Why though, he seemed like a pretty cool chief." Aang soon regretted what he said as he saw Katara's vision drop to the tabletop as she spoke with noticeable melancholy.

Aang started to apologize for bringing up the unseemly sensitive topic but Katara didn't mind sharing this part of her life with him, "Maybe to the rest of the world and Sokka. But not to me. My gran gran used to tell me that the amount of chaos and inequality increased drastically after the previous avatar died. Hence, as a political figure dad had to help more or something like that."

Katara's eyes welled up a little upon mentioning her father, "She would tell me stories about how one day the avatar will return to bring back the peace that has been lost over so many years…"

Aang stiffened hearing about the weight that rest on him. Katara continued as she sniffled" …sometimes I even wonder if this whole avatar thing was just a lie to keep me hoping that one day our dad will be back to spend more time with us. But it doesn't hurt to hope, right?"

Aang nodded slowly processing everything as he gently held her hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze that conveyed so many emotions. Aang was in a loss for words. He wanted to reassure her that he will do everything in his power to ensure peace as the avatar, that life will get better, and many more…but…he couldn't…not yet.

Katara could sense the sincerity emanate from him. An unbelievably comforting silence hung over them. Before they knew it, the eggs on the pan started crackling, disturbing the peaceful silence.

They broke the contact as Aang raced to fix the dish, giving a sheepish laugh, "I don't know how this is going to taste like, but if it's bad, I'm sorry in advance…"

Katara giggled clearing her tear stained cheeks as Aang gave a few final touches to his dish and swooped the dish in front of her.

Katara smiled at his impressive effort. She took a spoonful of the scrambled eggs and ate them, while Aang watched anxiously awaiting the verdict about his cooking skills.

Katara wanted to lie and put up a scene saying it was bad, but in all honesty, it was too great to lie. Possibly, one of the best breakfasts she has had…or maybe it was just the company she was having

"Unfair…" she began as Aang grew concerned, "How can you be good at everything?"

Aang heaved a huge sigh of relief, "I cooked in Air nomad style so I didn't know if you would like it. Such a relief…"

"Well compared to Sokka's cooking it's much better…," she teased.

Aang scoffed, "that's a really low bar…"

"Awww…just kidding Aang! You are a great cook. Your girlfriend sure is lucky." Katara patted him playfully before realizing what she said.

An uneasy silence fell over the two. Katara averted her eyes and raced through topics to talk about. However, Aang had that job covered for her

"Katara there's something on your cheek…let me get it for you" Aang spoke as he wiped her cheeks with his fingers.

Katara once again could feel heat rising up to her face upon contact and embarrassment. She traced her fingers over where Aang wiped to realize something sticky on her face.

Aang had just spread tomato sauce on her cheeks in the name of clearing it. Things were not going to be clean from now one. Not anymore.

Aang let a hearty laugh as Katara's eyes widened in shock, "WHAT an ASS!" she exclaimed in disbelief.

Aang sniggered, "Oooh Katara I don't think you're allowed to say that as a teacher…" however before he could finish, he could feel a stream of soapy dishwater hit his face in full force.

Aang wiped the water away looking at Katara in shock.

"Aww did I break poor Aang's moral code?" She spoke with innate sarcasm in every word that told him that she was by no chance sorry about what she did.

"You better start running Ms Aqua!" Aang warned as he Air bent the flour he had found in the kitchen cabinet.

Katara decided dash as Aang got on his Air scooter to chase her in the compact kitchen.

Both of them were finding random (safe) things in the kitchen to throw at one another. Simply put it was real kitchen nightmare

At one fateful turn, Katara slipped on the wet floor and lost her balance. Her feet slid across the wet floor as she scrambled to get a grip but it was too late. Realizing this Aang valiantly tried to catch her but ended up being pulled into the fall by Katara. Both were having fits of laughter. However, the laughter was short lived as the realization of their position hit them.

There they were on the kitchen floor covered in all the essential kitchen ingredients with Katara's weight pressed against Aang. Both of them were understandably stinky and sticky. However, neither seemed to care.

At this point, the only thing that was most interesting was the excitement within the other person's half-lidded eyes. The magnetic silvery eyes searched the ocean blue cerulean orbs for hints and signals, which were plenty. The distance between the two reduced drastically as their lips were merely inches away. Katara lightly bit her lower lip as she prepared for what seemed like a dream coming true.

"Yo Katara I'm HOME! You know left your car in at the Cactus bar last night. Suki called me and I had to guide the girls and everyone else in to the car…" Sokka's voice boomed throughout the house and came crashing down their eardrums as they pulled away as quickly as possible.

Katara was visibly angry with her brother for preventing what could have been as she folded her arms vexed. Aang on the other hand was red as beet. He quickly tried to wash himself up at the kitchen sink before Sokka saw him in a mess.

Sokka made his way to the kitchen while talking loudly, "One hell of a night man. I couldn't even spend time with Suki properly…. Wha...what is Aang doing here? And Katara why are you…a mess?" he spoke slowly absorbing the scene

Katara shot him a look as she blew a her hair that was hanging in front.

Aang on the other hand prepared to explain, "I must have been knocked out by all the cactus juice last night. So Katara helped me out. Today morning we were making breakfast and it kinda got a little messy." With that, Aang took a bow, "that's all your Honour Sokka."

Sokka scratched his imaginary beard, "it seems like one hell of a mess…Verdict: GUILTY! Now as punishment will ya two clean it for me and Katara make me a sandwich while you're at it?" He spoke as he left the kitchen with his usual aloofness. Aang's eyes widened at the comment as he prepared to watch the action sequence that was about to go down in the next few moments...

Katara was pushed to her limits with that as she yelled at him, "Even after all you did, you want me to make you a SANDWHICH?!"

She brandished a stream of water and froze him to the wall much to Sokka's chagrin. She then tied her hair into a bun before proceeding to help Aang in cleaning the kitchen.

As it could be imagined, the rest of the clean up session went with averted eyes and awkward exchanges. Both of them wanted to know what happened earlier. Was it just hormones or did it actually mean anything?

Soon, the kitchen was back to its normal spick and spans self. Both of them washed up quickly while Katara hoped that there would be some private time to talk to him more about this.

While Aang desperately wanted to find out more, the fear of hearing something unpleasant from Katara grew exponentially with every passing second and he rather deal with it later than sooner in this case. She clearly does not like you

Aang sat at the couch pretending to use his phone when actually he was just scrolling random pages on the phone. Sokka who was eventually released noticed what Aang was doing and smiled understanding that something must be going on…

Katara water bent the water out of her hair as she gathered courage to talk to Aang. However as soon as she got near Aang, he sprang up to his feet as he spoke scratching the back of his head, "hey guys…I think I better be going…yaknow you guys must have plans for today etc..."

Before Katara could respond, Sokka filled in for her, "Not really only I am busy, Katara is absolutely completely free."

While Katara appreciated his input, it was just adding fuel to the already overwhelming awkwardness in the room. Katara pursed her lips tightly as she hoped to get this over with as quickly as possible…

Aang on the other hand nodded unsurely, "yeah well anyway I better get going I have to get something from… school"truth be told he really did have to go to school to retrieve his private network messenger that he accidentally left in the staffroom.

Sokka once again, "No probs man don't worry, Katara can drop you off where ever you want. She wouldn't mind, would you little sis?'

Katara was glad to finally find an opportunity to escape this awkward hell as she grabbed her car keys and dragged Aang out of the house while shooting a look at Sokka that confirmed his death wish.

Though Aang did not want to drag the awkwardness, he knew it was not realistic to walk or fly all the way to school.

"Ummm Katara I know you were put in a fix to drop me…if you don't want to, it's alright I can call Suki to pick me up..." Aang spoke reaching for his phone in his pocket.

Katara shook her head immediately, "No no nothing of that sort. Sokka is just generally a douche to me. Besides work can help me get away from him also…anyway, why do you need to go to school though?"

"Um I left a …few scripts to mark in there. So yeah" Aang spoke trying his best to not sound suspicious.

"Hmm alright let's go get it!" she said as she got onto the driver's seat.

Subsequently the ride went smoothly but that could not be said for their conversations. Every prompt by either side was met with a blunt reply. Not forced but not natural either and it pained both of them.

Soon they reached the destination and made their way towards the staff room through the eerily quiet school campus. Aang tapped his id as they went inside the room taking in the unfamiliarly quiet atmosphere. As soon as they reached his desk, Aang accidentally dropped one of the files to the side to distract Katara from seeing him sneak the device into his pockets.

Aang heaved a sigh of relief as he began to make his way towards the staffroom door.

Katara spoke from behind him, "Aang you didn't take anything from the table..."

Aang faked a laugh as he came back to the table to pick up a few random sheets of paper.

Katara could not stand to see Aang like this. So faked and awkward. His genuineness seemed to have vanished and she hated herself for leading to this situation. He clearly does not like you!

"Aang I can't take this! Why are you acting so weird now?" She spoke with a slight tinge of anger and agitation in her voice

"Yeah sure we were about to kiss…big deal yes… but hell; you're acting like I am a complete stranger now! I can't lose you as a friend! I do like you but if you are not able to return the feelings, then I will understand but please don't not talk to me…" Katara spoke as though she was almost begging him.

Aang on the other hand couldn't believe he caused Katara to worry so much. Aang shook his head vigorously, "No no no nothing like that. I was just afraid…you won't like me back…"

Words tumbled out of Aang's lips faster than he could process what he was saying, "I mean like you're so kind and pretty and…and just too perfect that I thought… I would mess up our friendship by even thinking I had a chance with you…"

Deafening silence took over the ambiance as mild echoes of Aang's words could still be heard. They were both contemplating on what the other just said. It seemed absurd to them. Why would you think that?!

Katara spoke blushing at his comments, "What do you mean?"

Aang blinked, as he understood it was time to muster his courage to admit what he wanted to tell her, "I know I have not known you for a long time and all but I do think I see something special between us… maybe something more than just a great friendship…"

The distance between shrank as he held her hands gently.

Katara could feel Goosebumps all over her body with his words. "I think I see it as well…"

Aang was now filled with both confidence and excitement as his arms slowly wrapped around her waist while he spoke, "So where does that put us at?"

Though Katara was overjoyed with happiness on the inside due to his touch, she didn't want to seem too easy to lay it out. She grabbed his hand and pushed him away with a slight tease in her voice, "not so fast Mr Vaayu… you've got to work for your promotions and it means…"

Aang catching on her drift nodded, "Date? Would you go out with me on a date Ms Aqua?"

Katara couldn't control the smile that was plastered on her face. To her it would have taken a fraction of a second to agree.

However, sometimes that is all it takes to turn situations upside down. Before she could reply, the sound of a gunshot could be heard within the vicinity followed by a loud shrill cry screaming for help.

What seemed like a romantic scene, turned upside down instantly as lights started to flicker and went out in the staffroom. The cries for help did not stop.

Katara had a frown overcoming her face as the two of them looked at one another puzzled as to what just happened. They ran towards the direction of the sound to the back of the school to get the shock of their lives. They quickly hid behind the sheltered view of a bush to watch things unfold horrendously.

A hooded figure and a small ragtag team of external people were lining up teenage girls and force-feeding white powdery substances. A girl, who disobeyed the instructions, was being electrocuted right in front of them. The electrocutions explained the power outages in the building. Whatever that was going on down there was definitely not legal by any means.

The girl who happened to scream was Aang's student. Aang could not control his rage as he saw her drop to floor due to the side effects of the drugs and electrocutions kick in. She was merely another incapacitated body lying on the floor along with many other girls. He was ready to blow his cover but waited longer to understand their plan.

The hooded figure dished out instructions to the rest as he walked with a firm posture, "Ok hurry up finish the drugs, and load the girls inside lthe ocker room. Afterwards you people know the drill, contact their parents systematically. We need to drain every single one of the benders' wealth. Understand?"

With that the rest of the crew including the hooded figure gave a battle cheer, "All hail Amon" before proceeding with their tasks.

Aang had enough research time understanding the plan. He looked at Katara as she gave a firm nod to proceed as well. Aang secretly pressed for emergency in his messenger before getting out of his hideout

He bent a stream of air to propel the two of them towards the centre of the operation as they tactically broke all hell loose against the Equalists. The team assembled their electrified gloves within minutes. Despite their multiple attempts to fire at Katara, she dodged them effectively. She lifted the sewer water from underneath, and froze the team against the wall in one swift movement. She soon rushed to check on the girls conditions to assess the severity.

Aang on the other hand decided to take on the hooded masked figure as he punched several powerful airwaves against him. The hooded figure brandished a hook sword as he dodged the attacks effectively while getting closer to Aang.

Aang was millimetres away from being sliced at many instances as the assailant handled the weapon with great expertise against Aang. Katara soon joined Aang in combating him however even with the efforts of two master benders the hooded attacker was still having the upper hand. Aang was done holding back against him. He bent a small amount of earth behind his feet as he blew a gust of wind against him directly. The move was unforeseen by the mystery man as he fell to his back.

Before Aang could make any step closer a few sharp earth handcuffs appeared to seize the hooded figure as an airship descended to the ground. The voice of the police chief blared through the speakers, "You're under arrest for illegal drug use, sale and coercion and perpetuator of hate crimes in this city Amon. You're not the law and you're not above it either."

Aang was shocked, as he didn't know he would come face to face with Amon so soon. He was not prepared for this confrontation. He has spent quite a while analysing his behavior and for some reason this particular figure seemed a little out of synch to what he remembered Amon to be.

A few officers jumped down from the airship as a few metal ropes dropped down. However, before they took away 'Amon', Aang had to do figure one main part of the puzzle. He needed to know who was causing all this and why. He walked closer towards 'Amon' as he lifted the facemask.

It was Jet…

Jet smirked as he spit some blood on the floor while addressing Aang, "you think all your vigilante justice is going to make any difference? My leader will get me out! I know who you are… you just watch… you will watch!" he yelled as he was being pulled away by the cables while giving a confident smile

Katara put a hand over Aang's back as his gaze was still fixed on the airship leaving. Katara while shocked at what just happened, was more afraid of what Jet implied when he said 'you will watch' particularly to Aang. She already hated Jet for what he did to her; she won't be able to forgive him if he hurt anyone else who is close to her.

"Aang are you ok?" she asked with concern brimming in her eyes.

Aang nodded as he took a deep breath watching the airship with mixed feelings. His identity was no longer the secret he once thought it to be. He knew they caught the right one …just not the exact one they were looking for…This war was far from being over.

"Katara I need to tell you something…"

TBC..

AN: SO yeah, Jet is not Amon…cause if he was, that would be a little weird…right? And Kataang aren't gonna kiss anytime soon hahaha jk I like the tension part of the Relationship more than the actual relationship…maybe that's why I am single af. However, story wise it's about to get serious. My first attempt at writing bending action… do let me know how I can improve. Let me know what you all think of it. Your comments motivate me a lot more than you think…so pls help!
