BEEP

BEEP

BEEP

With a groan she rolled over and smacked her alarm clock, but the noise kept going. Confused the blonde pushed herself up onto her elbow and looked at her clock.

"What the-"

"Four o four! Get up, it's the fire alarm!" Someone called, banging on her door. It took her a second but then Lucy shot up out of her bed. Grabbing her keep sake bag she stumbled out of her room. "Four o four!"

She swung the door open and slammed into something completely hard.

"Oh holy fudge balls that hurt!" She hissed, rubbing her nose which was now throbbing.

"Oh, sorry! Wait fudge balls?"

"Shut up and just go!" She exclaimed, not even bothering to thank the person who helped wake her up.

"Right!" He grabbed her arm and started dragging her out.

"Hey!" She exclaimed as she stumbled down the stairs after him. Before she knew it she was outside with the guy still dragging her. "Dude, you're gonna rip my arm off! Easy there Mr. Hulk!" She huffed, tugging her arm from his grip and rotating her shoulder.

"Oops, sorry." He chuckled, and she watched a tanned muscled arm went up and behind a pink head of hair.

"Is that a natural color?" She blurted.

"Huh? Oh! My hair? Yeah." He smiled widely and Lucy felt heat creeping into her cheeks.

"I don't think I've seen you in the building before." Was her next outburst. She wanted to smack herself because her verbal filter was usually iffy at best, but now at about two in the morning it was completely gone.

"Yeah, I moved in two days ago. I live right across the hall from you now."

"Oh." She nodded. "So, how's the welcome party working out?" She asked, gesturing to the building as fire trucks arrived. Mystery man laughed and she took the opportunity to check him out. He was only wearing a pair of pajama pants that rode low on his hips. And he had the absolute best torso she'd ever seen in her young life. Perfect pectorals, amazing abdominals that she could use to do laundry, and then there was the magnificent V of his hips that led into his pants and man she wanted to follow the happy trail that cut through the middle of it.

"It's working out okay." His voice snapped her out of her thoughts, and her eyes shot up to his, finding him smirking at her. His eyes roamed briefly over her body and she became aware of her pajamas. Which consisted of a t-shirt that hung off one shoulder and barely covered her lacy panties. Her face flamed and she very discreetly adjusted it to try and cover more. And by discreetly she totally just yanked it down her legs trying to stretch it out. He chuckled and she avoided eye contact by staring at his stomach muscles as they tensed and shook. Things were quiet for a while as they watched firemen go into the building.

"So….." Lucy said after a while of silence. "Come here often?" She joked. He laughed and shook his head at her.

"You're one weird chick." He teased.

"Yeah I know. I'm just that awesome." She laughed. "Maybe because it's two in the morning and I don't exactly have a filter. Well, I have a little bit of a filter left I guess since I haven't asked you if I could use your abs to do some laundry yet, or asked if I could bake cookies on your chest." She slapped a hand over her mouth when he began laughing. "Or…. Ya know, maybe it is gone." She squeaked. Her neighbor chuckled and shook his head at her. She was thinking about apologizing when a meow cut her off.

"Happy! There you are lil buddy! Man I was actually starting to get worried!" Her bent down to pick up a ball of blue fur and Lucy blinked in surprise.

"That cat is blue." She mumbled.

"Huh? Oh, yeah. A friend of mine was pet sitting one time in high school and he tried to give Happy a bath, but mixed up his soap for his blue hair dye. Funny thing is, nobody knew he dyed it until then." The rose haired male chuckled.

"High school huh? I doubt you're still in high school, so why is he still blue?" She wondered.

"Oh, yeah! He gets real mad if he doesn't stay blue now. Like he'll swipe at me and stuff. I had to re-dye him last week—with pet safe products of course—cause he got all sorts of mad." He held his arm out to her and the blonde saw all the faint scratches. She winced but stepped closer.

"Is he friendly?"

"Friendly enough." He nodded. Lucy reached out a hand and allowed the feline to sniff at her fingers before she reached up and scratched his ear. The blue fuzz ball began purring like a motorboat and the blonde smiled.

"Hey little guy." She murmured. "So his name's Happy right?"

"Yeah, oh and I'm Natsu by the way." He smiled and shifted so his cat was in one arm. He offered his freed hand to her and she took it without hesitation.

"Lucy." She smiled. They shook hands and she couldn't help but marvel at how her hand disappeared into his large palm, and how warm his skin was.

"Nice to meet you. Although, I have to say I wish the circumstances were better." He chuckled. She laughed with him and agreed.

"Alright folks! False Alarm! It's safe to go back inside!" A fireman called.

"Thank god!" Lucy exclaimed.

"That eager to get away? I have to ask, was it the pink hair, or the blue cat?" Natsu asked teasingly. Her face flushed.

"N—no! I mean, it's not—I didn't mean—oh lord…." She sighed as he laughed at her fumbling. "It wasn't anything you did, it's just really cold out here." She muttered. As if to prove her point the wind picked up and made her shiver. She heard Natsu groan and looked up at him in confusion, and then looked down at herself when she realized how low his eyes were trained. The wind had lifted her shirt to expose her lacy underwear. Quickly she shoved her shirt back down while her cheeks flamed. How could her luck possibly be that bad? Her apartment building had a false fire alarm, her filter was gone in front of the hottest guy she'd ever seen, and then the wind made her flash her panties at him. What would happen next, she wondered. "Right! Well, it was nice meeting you, and I'm just gonna go back to my apartment and die of embarrassment." She said quickly before turning away.

"Hey!" Natsu called a few minutes later as she was heading up the stairs to her floor, causing her to turn. He rushed up the steps to catch up to her, barely even winded by the trek that would have had her panting. "If, by any chance, you decide not to die of embarrassment, maybe you could consider whether or not you'd wanna grab a cup of coffee with me tomorrow?" He offered. Her eyebrows rose in surprise. After everything she'd done and said, he was asking her out? Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth she smiled as they walked down the hall.

"There'd be nothing to consider. Meet me at Barnes & Noble on the corner of fifty-second and center street. My shift ends at two." She smiled. He smiled and nodded, and then she went into her apartment.

"It was nice meeting you, Luce." He called before she closed the door.

"Nice meeting you too, Natsu." She called back before closing the door. She turned and leaned her back against it, smiling like an idiot. "Thank god for false alarms." She whispered to herself before she did a small happy dance.
