Author Notes: Today's my birthday and to celebrate here's a new chapter from the Parenthood saga, this chapter was inspired by the fact that no father can say "no" to their daughters.
So as we all remember, Tony and Emily adopted two little girls which they named after Jade and Tori, so prepare for some father/daughters time, but that doesn't mean our favorite duo won't appear after all, there would be no saga without them, heh.
Just to be clear, Little Jade and Little Tori as they will be affectionately be referred to during this saga aren't twins, the now sisters were born to two different families that couldn't take care of them and were adopted by Tony and Emily.
So anyway read and enjoy.
"VEGA, WILL YOU HURRY UP!" Jade bellowed exasperatedly. "We don't want to be late to catch our flight!"
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" The Latina said quickly. "I was just making sure we have everything, we wouldn't want to arrive at the airport and realize too little too late we forgot our tickets or passports or who knows what else and then we would actually miss our plane!"
"Vega, you checked everything like ten times." The Thespian said dryly. "I think we're as ready as we can possibly be."
"Show me your ticket then." Tori demanded. "And your passport while you're at it."
Jade did as she was told and showed her wife the items she would need to travel.
"Satisfied?"
"I am."
"Good, now let's go before we miss our flight." Jade said. "Honestly Vega, I know you're eager as I am to see our son but you should try to calm down, don't let your mind think the worst case scenario, we have everything we need and nothing is getting in the way of our travel plans."
No sooner that she said that, she opened the front door, only to be greeted by her teenage grandson.
"Matt?" She asked. "What are you doing here?"
"I came to see you before you and Abuelita Tori went to the airport." He said panting; Jade noticed that his bike was discarded on the yard. "I just wanted to say goodbye, sorry it took so long to get here but I had a trouble with a ghost that wouldn't leave me alone till I handed a letter to his widow telling her how he died… Long story, not the point right now… So am I late?"
Everyone in the family knew of Matt's ability to communicate with the other side and unsurprisingly Jade was the one who loved more than anyone to hear about her grandson's spooky tales from beyond the grave.
Unfortunately, now it was not the time for a story.
"You kind of are Matt." Tori said. "We are on our way out actually."
"Oh." The teen said sadly. "Well, at least I got to see you guys before leaving… Stupid ghosts, I'm so making a new rule after this… No haunting me on family events… Even I deserve a day off from the dead damn it!" He tiredly looked at his right, noticing a glowing floating hooded figure approaching him. "YOU!"
The ghost stopped in his tracks, silently pointing at himself.
"Yeah, you!" The teen snapped. "Whatever it is you want from me?, it's going to have to wait! I'm with my grandparents right now!"
Jade smirked proudly, it was moments like these that she noticed that her sweet grandchild also had a fierce side.
"Well Matt, you looked like you had a long wait." The thespian said sympathetically. "So how about, I get you some cookies."
"Oh yum!"
"But Jade, we have a plane to catch!" Tori said quickly. "And after everything I did to get us ready, we are NOT missing our flight to Paris."
"Don't worry about it Vega." Her wife said. "We'll only be here ten minutes, after the day Matt had; it would be cruel if we just left right now."
With that being said, the Thespian let their grandson in so they could have a quick bite at the kitchen.
Tori could only shake her head in amusement.
"So much for not letting anything getting in the way of our travel plans."
Several hours later in Paris.
Emily woke up, opening one eye to make sure that Tony was still fast asleep, to her luck, he was, she slowly raised her arm off his waist, got out of bed, tip toing towards the closet, quickly putting a pair of pants, a shirt and a jacket, all the while trying to be as quiet as a mouse.
The blonde got out of the bedroom but came back a few minutes later with a tray of food, she gently put it on her side of the bed, she also left a note next to the pancakes and juice, satisfied with her work, she gave her husband a loving look and a gently kiss on his head.
"Happy birthday Tony." She whispered. "I'll be back in a while… With your present."
Once Emily was out of their bedroom, she was about to walk out of the apartment, only to be greeted with the sight of her daughters in the living room, they were in their PJ's and working on a scrapbook.
"Hey girls." Emily said. "What are you two up to?"
"We're working on daddy's birthday present, mommy." Little Jade said happily. "Look, we're pasting a bunch of pictures together!"
"I can see that." She chuckled. "Aw, I remember that day; it was the first time he took you out for ice cream."
"UH-HUH!" Little Tori said enthusiastically. "And look! Over here is when we went to Disneyland! Do you remember mommy?"
"Hard to forget." Emily replied with a grin. "It was only last summer."
"We're going to put as many photos as we can before daddy wakes up." Little Jade said. "You'll think he will like it mom?"
"I'm sure he will love it."
"YAY!" Both girls cheered.
"Shhh!" Emily said with a finger over her lips. "You don't want to wake up your father, do you?"
"Yay!" they cheered more quietly
Their mother shook her head in amusement. "Well you two have fun."
"Where are you going mom?" Little Tori asked.
"To get your dad his birthday present." She replied. "If he wakes up, before I come back, stall him and if you must, give him your present first."
"Will do mommy!"
Little Tori got a random photo out of the box, she was about to paste it to the scrapbook until she noticed it was of two people she didn't know but seemed oddly familiar.
"Hey mom." She said. "Who are they?"
Emily looked at the photo in her daughter's hand and snickered. "Oh boy I forgot about this." She said. "You see the girl with the red hair and wearing black? That's me when I was a teenager."
"And who is the girl standing next to you?" Little Jade asked. "A friend of yours mommy?"
"Believe it or not girls… That's your father."
Both sisters eyes widened in surprise.
"Say whaaaaat?"
"Yup." Their mother replied with a smirk. "This was taken one Halloween when your dad and I first started dating, we were invited to a party and as you can see, I went as Black Widow and he went as Wonder Woman, he did such a good job with his costume I didn't recognize him at first."
"I didn't know daddy likes make up!" Little Tori said excitedly.
"He looks pretty!"
An idea went through the sisters' heads; they suddenly knew what else to give their father for his birthday.
An hour later, Tony finally woke up, he stretched his arms, yawning as he got up, and he noticed the breakfast, most likely left by his wife.
"Only you Em." He said fondly as he saw the letter next to his plate. "What's this now?"
Hey Princess.
Happy Birthday, normally I would eat breakfast with you and give you a show for your eyes only but I got to do a quick errand, don't worry, I'll be home soon, in the meanwhile enjoy your meal.
And tonight, we'll have some time by ourselves, I promise you this.
Love Emily.
This caught Tony off guard since they couldn't find a babysitter for the daughters on their day off.
"What are you planning Em?"
Tony was only halfway done with his breakfast in bed when the door to the bedroom slammed opened and saw his daughters running towards him.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY!"
The chef smiled warmly at the sight of his two little princesses, less than a minute later, he felt two thuds on either side of him, the girls looked excitedly at him as they held a box in their little arms, he noticed the crudely put wrapping paper on top of it bur he didn't care, he knew it was the thought that counts.
"We got a present for you!" Little Tori said happily.
"I can see that." He chuckled. "Loved the wrapping paper by the way."
"It was my idea!" Little Jade said. "We didn't want to give you a boring shoe box!"
"I appreciate the effort sweetheart."
"Open it! Open it! Open it daddy!" Both girls chanted at the same time.
Tony grabbed the box and began to tear off the wrapping paper, once he was done with that, he opened it and inside he saw a scrapbook with the words "DADDY AND US" in big, colorful, bold letters.
Both little Jade and Little Tori looked expectantly at their father.
"Do you like it?"
Tony looked at all the mementos his daughters put into the scrapbook, from the moment they were brought home, to their first birthdays, their first bike ride and so on.
"I love it." He said happily. "This is the best gift you could0ve given me girls."
"We're glad you like it daddy." Little Jade said. "But we got something else for you."
"Oh?"
"Closed your eyes and open them when we tell you, dad."
Tony did as he was told and waited patiently till his children told him to open them.
He didn't have to wait long as the girls yelled "SURPRISE!"
Their father opened his eyes, to say that he was surprised was an understatement, he saw Little Tori holding up a shoebox of old make-up that Emily (reluctantly) had given their daughters to use when they wanted to play dress-up.
Tony had a suspicion that he knew what they were going to say next.
"We want to give you a make-over, daddy!" Little Tori said.
"Damn… I was right." He though. "A make-over?"
"We say a photo of you as Wondy!" Little Jade said. We want to make you pretty, daddy!"
"Ah, so that explains it." Tony thought.
While he was deep in thought, the girls however misconstrued it as a hard, no, so they brought out the big guns.
"Please, daddy?" Little Tori said, sticking out her lower lip.
"Yeah daddy," Little Jade nodded, mirroring her sister. "Please? We wanna make you happy today."
That did it, Tony knew he was powerless when the girls pulled their 'sweet and innocent' act.
"Alright…you can give me a make-over," He agreed.
"Yay!" The sisters cheered.
"But don't go wild, okay?" Freddie said. "And you have to promise to never tell mommy about this. I finally got her to stop calling me a princess after all…"
The last bit was meant for himself.
"We promise," Little Tori said, "Pinky swear!"
Tony laughed. "Ok, pinky swear."
The girls got to work.
Meanwhile at the airport, Emily was waiting for her Mothers- In-Laws to get out of the gate, she didn't have to wait long because as soon she sat down, Jade and Tori were waving at her to let get her attention.
The blonde waved back, making her way towards the elder women.
"Hi Ma… Hi Mom." Emily greeted. "How was your flight?"
"It was hell." Jade said bluntly. "After fourteen hours, I can't feel my ass."
"JADE!" Tori snapped. "Need I remind you that you're on thin ice right now?"
"Dare I ask what happened?" Emily frowned. "Nothing bad I hope?"
Emily would hate it if she now found out that her In-Laws were having trouble in paradise, it would devastate Tony his parents were not in the best place of their marriage.
"Nothing much." Tori replied evenly. "Except we almost missed our flight because someone didn't have the heart to say goodbye to our grandkid."
"Oh bite me Vega." Jade snapped back. "You couldn't say goodbye either!"
"Nothing major… Good." Emily sighed I relief. "So you guys ready? Tony's got to freak out once he sees you, it's been too long."
"Five years, two months and eleven days to be exact." Tori said. "But who's counting?"
Emily blinked a few times, surprised that the Latina kept count.
"Guess who has been missing our son the most?" Jade chortled. "Seriously Tor?"
"Hey, when one of your children is on the other side of the globe, you wonder when you're going to see him again!" Tori defended. "It's not like we can just take a drive here like when we go and see the twins!"
Emily helped her mothers-in-law with their luggage as they make their way to her car, once everything was in place, the blonde got in the driver's seat, from the rearview mirror she could see that both women were eager to see their son.
And she knew the feeling would be returned in kind, Emily didn't need to be a rocket scientist to see that her husband sometimes missed his family, more specifically his parents, how could he not after so long since they last seen each other? So as a surprise for his birthday, she decided to have a little West reunion.
Tony was in for a surprise.
Nearly an hour later Tony looked at his reflection in the small mirror that Little Tori held in front of him. To his shock, he now had on purple eye shadow, bright pink blush, and ruby red lipstick, as well as about fifty different bows stuck in his hair.
"You like it?" Little Jade asked.
"Uhhh… Well I can safely say I haven't looked this pretty in years." He joked. "You two did an excellent job."
"And we're not done!" Little Tori said. "Jadey, let's go see if we can find our tiara for daddy to wear!"
"Oh, yeah!" Her sister nodded eagerly. "Just like Wondy!"
As his daughters hurried back to their bedroom, Tony took another look at his reflection.
"Of all the things that could've happened today, this never even crossed my mind." He thought. "Well at least Emily isn't here to see this."
Just then the front door opened and his wife walked in.
"I just had to jinx myself didn't I?"
"Hey," Emily said, tossing aside her jacket and purse. "Sorry it took so long to get here I had to go and pick up something on the way back and…"
She stopped in her tracks as she caught sight of her husband.
"Huh," She said. "Feeling nostalgic for the old days, princess?"
"So much for getting her to stop calling me that." He thought with an eye roll. "If you must know this the girls doing, they saw an old photo of us on Halloween and apparently they wanted to make me look pretty as a gift… I didn't have the heart to tell them no."
"Those two have you wrapped around their fingers." Emily teased. "I got to say princess, you never looked better! That eye shadow makes your eyes stand out and of the lipstick is just your color."
"You suck."
"Ah ah ah!" The blonde said while moving her finger teasingly. "Is that the best way to talk to your dear wife after I went out of my way to bring you a blast from the past?"
"What are you talking about?"
Emily smirked.
"Come on in." She said. "He's in the living room and he's just dying to see you."
"Em, Who are you talking to?"
He got his answer soon enough when he saw his parents entering the apartment, to say he was in shock was an understatement.
Jade and Tori meanwhile looked at their son's appearance.
"Aw," the Latina said. "This reminds me of the time you got into my make up when you were a little kid, remember that Jade?"
"He looked like a clown." The Thespian smirked. "Let me guess, this masterpiece is our granddaughters doing?"
"You guessed correctly." Tony replied. "Mom… Mama… What are you guys doing here?"
"What? Can't two mothers come visit their son as a surprise on his birthday?" Tori asked in mock offense. "This is the welcoming we're getting?"
Without anything else to say, he got up from the couch and walked towards his parents, nothing was said between them but that didn't last long as Tony hugged his parents.
"It's great to see you!" He said happily. "It's been like five years since you last visited."
"It feels like it's been longer than that." Tori replied.
"Daddy?"
The adults turned around to see two little girls, they had a bunch of tiaras in their hands, clearly they weren't done playing dress up with their father.
"Hey girls." Tony said. "Guess who came to visit, your grandparents!"
The two sisters hid behind their mother, something that surprised their namesakes.
"Oh sorry." Tony chuckled. "You gotta forgive them; they're a bit shy around new people."
His mothers however took no offense to this, after all the last time they saw them was when they were babies.
Jade was the first one to take action and she walked towards her grandchildren and lowered to their level, she smiled at them despite the fact that they were hiding from her.
"Hey there." She said sweetly. "You don't need to be scared, I'm your grandma, and over there is your abuelita, we're your grandparents, you know… You daddy's parents."
Little Jade was the first one to come out of hiding.
"Hi." She said shyly. "I'm Jadey."
The thespian smiled. "Well wouldn't you know it? That's my name too!"
"Really?"
"Yup."
"It was Tori's turn to introduce herself. "I'm your Abuelita Victoria."
"Really?" Little Tori's eyes widened surprised. "Because that's my name!"
As the children were getting aquatinted with their grandparents, both Tony and Emily looked at the interaction with amusement.
Emily stepped over and wrapped her arms around her husband, giving him a kiss on the cheek.
"What's this for?" Tony asked, hugging her back.
"Just…Just for being a really awesome dad," She said softly. "Not too many fathers would willingly look as ridiculous as you do right now just to make their daughters happy."
"Well I learned from the best." He said looking at his own parents.
"Oh, speaking of your parents, they agreed to babysit the girls tonight." She said before whispering the rest on his ear seductively. "That way we can go out and I can give you part two of your gift."
Tony smiled at his wife.
"Can't wait."
We all learn from someone on how to be a parent, interesting thing about this chapter, it was originally meant to be for Father's Day but since I missed the deadline, I decided to do some minor rewriting to make it fit for my birthday, heh, funny how that worked out, no?.
So uh yeah, please do leave a review and as always constructive criticism is greatly appreciated.
