As Tara walked into the house she saw Jax sitting in the recliner in the living room, the one he never sat in. He always sat on the couch. As she walked into the room further she saw the reason why. Wendy was sitting on the couch. Tara's heart sank, what the hell was she doing here? Would she call her out on lying to her about Jax staying at the clubhouse? Now that she is here it is pretty obvious that he has been staying here.
"Hey Doc, I didn't realize you made house calls." Wendy said when she saw Tara
"She's not making a house call Wendy, she's here to see me" Jax interjected
"Well she must be really comfortable around here to just walk in without knocking."
"She's been staying here for a couple weeks, it's a long story and truthfully it's none of your business."
"Oh I see, you know I am still legally your wife which makes this half my house. I don't really want her staying here."
"Jax I'm going to just go, call me later." Tara finally said. They were discussing her yet she had stood there completely quiet.
"No Tara, you aren't going anywhere. Listen Wendy this is MY house not yours and I will have whoever I want here. You gave up all rights when you pumped yourself full of heroin and almost killed our son. I have already filed for the divorce so now it's just a waiting game. Like it or not Tara is here and she is going to be around. Get used to it."
"But Jax" Wendy started to say but Jax interrupted her
"No Wendy this is my life and my decision. I think it's time you leave now. Go check into your hotel while you wait for your sober living apartment to open up."
Wendy stood up without saying a word. The look she gave Tara was like daggers shooting through her. This wasn't over and Tara knew that it was going to be a long fight.
Although Tara could tell that Jax was still mad she had to say something.
"Jax I think we need to talk about what is going on with us."
"What do you mean what is going on with us? I thought that was pretty clear."
"No it's not at least not to me. I've been staying her for a couple weeks now and yes I've migrated into your bed at night but where do we stand? Eventually Abel is going to come home and we need to figure it out before that."
"I thought we were back together like we talked about in Lodi. That is what I want for us and I thought that is what you want too."
"Yes I do want that, eventually. I think what has pushed us together right now is all the drama with Josh. If that hadn't happened who knows where we would be."
"What are you saying Tara?"
"I honestly don't know right now but I think it's time I go home. We both need to have some space to figure things out."
"So you're walking out on me again?"
"No I'm not walking out of your life, I will still be here in Charming but like I said we both need time to figure things out."
Jax didn't say anything after that so Tara got her things and left.
The next day Wendy went to see Gemma at the garage. She knew that she was the last person in the world that Gemma wanted to see but she needed to tell her about what she saw at Jax's the night before. When she walked in Gemma was on the phone but looked up to see who it was. Once Gemma hung up all she could do was stare at Wendy.
"What are you doing here?"
"I've been released from rehab into a sober living house. My apartment won't be ready for a couple days so I'm staying in a hotel until then."
"That doesn't answer why you are here."
"I need to talk to you about something."
"I gathered that."
"Last night I went to see Jax at his house and while we were sitting there talking that doctor showed up and just walked in without knocking."
"Tara has been staying there. She has had a lot going on and needed a safe place to stay."
"So you knew about it and didn't tell me?"
"What exactly was I supposed to tell you Wendy? Jax is a big boy and is helping out a friend."
"They seemed like more than friends from what I saw."
"So what if they are?"
"He's still my husband Gemma"
"For now he is, I have nothing more to say to you. Goodbye Wendy"
Wendy just sat there dumbfounded for a minute. Gemma was really defending what these two had. She hated Tara. She got up and left finally. If Gemma wouldn't help her she would confront Tara on her own.
Gemma couldn't believe that Wendy would come see her. What the hell was she thinking? No she didn't like Tara or what was going on between her and Jax but she wasn't going to admit that to Wendy. She made a mental note to stop by Jax's later to check on things. She was going to find out what was going on once and for all.
Tara was doing her rounds at the end of her shift when she heard her name over the intercom. Now what she thought. She walked to the entrance of the hospital where she fully expected to see Gemma. When she turned the corner she was surprised to see Wendy sitting there.
"Hi Wendy, what are you doing here?"
"I came to talk to you"
"Ok let's go over here."
Tara moved them to a bench on the other side of the room.
"What's up?"
"I'm going to blunt about this, what is going on with you and Jax?"
That caught Tara off guard.
"Nothing is going on between us and even if it were as he told you last night it's none of your business."
"It is my business; he's still legally my husband and the father of my son."
"Only because the divorce isn't final yet."
"Yes which means he is still a married man, I know you've been staying there for safety reasons but are you sleeping in a separate room?"
"Really? If you must know I am not staying there anymore. I moved back to my house last night. Jax and I need some space to figure things out. As for where I slept I will not answer that."
"Well that tells me all I need to know"
"You think whatever you want Wendy but I'm done with this conversation."
With that Tara got up and walked away. Who the hell did this woman think she was? I guess there was a small part of Tara that knew there would be a confrontation eventually. Whether she would admit to it or not one of the biggest reasons her and Jax weren't together anymore was Tara. Good thing she decided to put some space between them. Jax had a baby and a soon to be ex-wife to figure things out with before anything more could happen between them.
Tara went back to her house once she finished her rounds. It was weird to stay here. She had been gone for 2 weeks. She was pouring herself a glass of wine when her phone rang. She immediately got panicked. The last time her phone rang around this house was when Hale called to tell her that Josh had been released. She was leery of answering it but she did.
"Hello?"
"Hey Tara, its Jax."
Tara breathed a sigh of relief.
"Oh thank god, what's up Jax?"
"You seem relieved that it's only me."
"Yeah well last time I received a phone call when I was alone it was about Josh. That's old news. What's up?"
"Gemma was just here and told me that Wendy had stopped by to see her today."
"Ok"
"She was asking about us"
"Yeah I know she came to the hospital too"
"What? Why the hell would she come there?"
"To ask me about us"
"What did you tell her?"
"There is nothing to tell her at this point Jax. All I said was that there is nothing going on between us and that I moved back home. She was worried about me moving in on her territory I guess you know since you are still her husband and all."
"You know I filed for divorce"
"I know that I'm just telling you what she wanted."
"Ok I will deal with her. I'm sorry she dragged you into it."
"No big deal, I'm used to dealing with crazy people."
"Yeah I guess that's true"
"Well I gotta go Jax. I'll talk to you later"
"Ok good night Tara"
With that she hung up. It just about killed her to give Jax the cold shoulder because she really did want to start a relationship with him but she had to consider his son. Yes it would still be a couple months before Abel came home but what would happen once he did? Was she ready to be a mom? With everything that goes on with the club Jax wouldn't be around much and it would fall to her to raise Abel. That was the part she couldn't tell Jax. She wanted kids one day but didn't know if she was ready for one yet, especially one that he had with someone else.
The next few weeks were uneventful until one day Jax came up to her at work and asked her to bring her medical bag to the clubhouse to help them out.
"What the hell happened?"
"Bullet wounds."
"Fine I will get my bag."
Once they got to the clubhouse it was worse than what she expected. The man lying on the table had taken 2 slugs to the butt. One of the other club members; Chibs; had managed to get one of the slugs out but couldn't get the other one out. Tara worked her magic and managed to get it out and stop the infection. She was in the apartment attached to the clubhouse cleaning up when Jax came in to thank her.
"You know Jax I can't be the on call doctor for club business unless I know what is going on."
"Is that really what you want? You know things get pretty messy around here at times. If not knowing things is stopping us from being together I will tell you everything; full disclosure."
"Yeah that is what I want'
"The guy you worked on is Cameron Hayes. He is the cousin of our Irish gun supplier. Michael McKeevy was killed and Cameron was state side to collect money from us to ensure that while we rebuild our gun warehouse they aren't losing out on business. When Clay went to meet with him the Mayans decided to try to take out Clay and hit Cameron instead."
Tara turned ghostly white and had to sit down. Did she really just hear all of that?
"You guys really are into some messed up shit aren't you?"
"I told you we were"
"That was part of what was keeping us from being together but there is more."
"Tell me"
"Not here, I will come by tonight and we can talk more"
"I won't be home tonight; we are on lock down until we figure out this Mayan situation. We have privacy back here, talk."
"Fine, its Abel that worries me."
"What about Abel?"
"I'm not sure I'm ready to be a Mom to someone else's baby."
"Tara I would be around too and when I'm not Gemma will be. I don't expect for you to take him on as your own."
"That's the thing if I'm around full time I would want to and I'm not sure I'm ready for that."
"Well that's your call."
Just then Jax heard his name called.
"I've got to go but we will continue this conversation later."
With that Jax ran out of the room. Tara just sat there on the bed not knowing what to think. She just wanted to go home. She got up and left deciding that she wouldn't make and decisions without talking to Jax further. If they couldn't work things out then why did she bother coming back to Charming? Maybe she would browse other jobs while waiting to hear from Jax. She wasn't going to apply for them but she wanted to know what was out there just in case.
