The second round of exams kind of knocked the wind out of me for a while there, but I'm back! Sorry about the unexpected hiatus, you have all been amazingly patient, and for that, I thank you. Without further ado, here's the next chapter of Conjuring up smiles!

Ruby was having a great time, and hoped that Weiss was too. The magician had been a little nervous about showing the heiress her favorite place to eat, and was incredibly relieved that her date seemed to love it as much as she did. However, as they had opted to have their date early in the day, there was still plenty of time left, and Ruby genuinely had no idea what to do with it. She knew a lot of the places in downtown Vale, but had already shown most of them to Weiss, so she wasn't sure what was left to do. She silently racked her brain as she walked hand in hand with the heiress, until she noticed a flyer for the seasonal Vale fair. Ruby had fond memories of going there on family outings when she was younger, and it was just her luck that it was going on this week.

"Come on!" She said excitedly, breaking into a light jog. Weiss complied with only a small mumble of disapproval, but when Ruby looked back, she saw that the heiress was smiling. After a block or so, Weiss ran out of steam, and they slowed their pace as they approached the fair. It was happening on the Vale docks, and the shipping containers and cranes had been replaced with colorful tents and rides.

"I was thinking we could do some stuff here, if that's okay." Ruby explained as they stopped in front of the entrance, an ornate archway with the words 'Vale seasonal fair' emblazoned on it.

"Actually, I love the fair." Weiss replied, and Ruby let out a small sight of relief in knowing that she had made the right decision. The two stepped through the archway and began wandering through the tents. Ruby was enthralled by a stall that sold custom plush figures.

"If you want, I can make one for you lovely ladies." The woman running the stand offered with a pleasant smile. Ruby nodded emphatically, telling the vendor what she wanted the plush to look like before handing her the required lien and stepping back to join Weiss, who had chosen to watch the exchanged from afar. The heiress was doing her best to pretend to look exasperated at Ruby's childishness, but she was having a tough time. Beaming, Ruby took her hand again and led her through the tents once more.

They stopped periodically to look at all the crafts being sold, each sticking to their own interests. Weiss stopped at a stall hawking beautifully carved wooden figures, while Ruby marveled at quill pens that folded out into arrows, seriously considering buying some before Weiss pointed out that she lacked a bow and the knowledge of how to fire one.

"And for that matter, you don't know how to use a quill pen either." Weiss pointed out as they wove between the stalls. Ruby shrugged in response.

"I can learn. It seems pretty easy." She replied in an offhand manner, and Weiss scoffed.

"Easy? I have spent years learning calligraphy, and I can tell you that it's no simple task-"

"Ooh, bumper cars!" Ruby exclaimed, pointing at the ride. Weiss's eyes widened at the magician's suggestion.

"Ruby, you aren't seriously suggesting we get on that deathtrap?" The heiress said indignantly. Ruby laughed.

"Come on, Weiss! It'll be fun, you'll see!" Weiss folded her arms in a stubborn manner.

"Ruby Rose, if you think I'm getting on that, then you're crazy."

"I still don't know why I agreed to this." Weiss griped as she bucked herself into the bumper car next to Ruby. For some godforsaken reason, they had decided to double up on a car, and the heiress was entirely convinced that this wasn't safe in the slightest. Ruby laughed again, and as much as Weiss was trying to be mad at her, that smile just kept melting her will.

"Because it's fun and because you love me." Ruby replied, pulling her into a brief sideways hug before releasing her. "Okay, get ready. They're going to start soon."

The cars powered up mere seconds later, and the girls fought for the steering wheel. Ruby decided to let Weiss have the first turn with it. "Left, Weiss, left!" She called out as they were rammed from the side by a blue car.

"I can do this on my own, Ruby, I don't need your-OOF!" Weiss was thrown backwards by a head-on collision that she hadn't seen coming. After being tossed around a few more times, Weiss conceded and relinquished the wheel to Ruby, who happily took it. Ruby was an absolute demon, slamming into the other teens and college students mercilessly. However, she avoided hitting the smaller children, and let them bump into their car even when she could easily avoid them.

"That was fun!" Ruby exclaimed once they had unbuckled themselves and exited the attraction. Weiss felt banged-up and out of breath, but she smiled nevertheless.

"I suppose you could call it that." She admitted grudgingly. The heiress checked her watch. "It's a little late. We should head back. I have a paper to finish." Ruby nodded eagerly, and they began to make their way back through the stalls. Right before they were about to leave the fair, however, her eyes widened, and she turned abruptly.

"Wait here!" She said, and in a flash of rose petals disappeared back into the crowd. She returned moments later, looking a little disheveled and bearing a box with a bow tied around it.

"What's this?" Weiss asked, tentatively taking the box.

"You can open it when we get back to Beacon. Come on, let's go!" Despite all her other good qualities, Ruby found it difficult to take things slow, and began to run back to the campus with an exasperated but happy Weiss in tow.

Once they had returned to Weiss's dorm, Ruby grinned.

"I had a great time!" She chirped, though her enthusiasm waned slightly when she fixed Weiss with a concerned look.

"Did...did you have a great time, too?" She asked tentatively. Weiss, despite her desire to retain an icy exterior, smiled warmly.

"Yes, Ruby. I did." Ruby's face lit up.

"Great! Oh, but before I leave, you should open the box!" Ruby held the box as the heiress untied the bow and removed the lid, smiling a bit wider at the contents.

"They're us! I commissioned them from the person making plushies." The magician explained. "So you can always see how beautiful you look and how special you are to me." She added, with a sheepish grin.

"Ruby, these are amazing...But I think I'll take this one, if you don't mind." Weiss pulled out the Ruby plush, and Ruby grinned harder than ever.

"All right!" She replied happily, putting the box with the remaining plush under one arm and turning to leave. "See you tomorrow, Weiss! Also, um...Thanks for agreeing to go on this date with me! Okay, bye!" With a flash of rose petals, Ruby was gone. Weiss continued to smile and shook her head slightly, wondering how on earth she had fallen for this chivalrous goofball. She picked up what Ruby had left behind, an unmarked paper rose, though this time, it was white. Weiss opened the door to her dorm, still grinning. Blake was on her bed, reading a book. At Weiss's entrance, she looked up, donning a sly smile of her own.

"Someone's happy." She commented. Weiss flushed a bright red.

"Shut up."

There we go! The end is in sight for this story, which might seem a little abrupt to some, but boy has it been a wild ride. As always, leave a review if there's anything you want to say about the story.

Thanks for reading and have a great day.
