Erik looked at his glass. "I didn't kill the President."

"The bullet curved Erik," said Charles.

"Because I was trying to save him."

"Seriously," said Logan. "I've seen you use your powers to suspend planes in midair. Now you're telling me you can't stop a bullet?"

"Obviously in the future my powers grow," said Erik. "Unfortunately, at the time they weren't able to save the President."

"I saw levitate a submarine at Cuba," said Hank. "That was less than a year before the assassination."

"It was over a year," said Erik. "I was out of practice."

"How out of practice were you?" said Charles. "You curved the bullet into the man you were trying to save."

"It was an accident!" said Erik. "What was I supposed to do?"

"Stop the bullet with your mind," said Charles.

"Deform the bullet so it loses its aerodynamic properties," said Hank. "Maybe flatten it vertically."

"You could've found something metallic and use it as a shield to block the bullet," said Logan. "Or you could've crushed the gun barrel."

"That would've hurt the shooter," said Erik.

"You once tried to blow up a naval blockade, killing thousands of people," said Charles. "Now you have a problem hurting a man who was trying to kill the President?"

"He had a family," said Erik.

"So you know who the shooter was?" said Logan.

"Well...that's not important," said Erik. "Look I made a mistake. I could have easily stopped the bullet. But I didn't want President Kennedy to die. And if I wanted to kill him, wouldn't I have crushed his car like a tin can?"

"Not if you were trying to be covert," said Logan.

"Yeah," said Hank. "Maybe you were trying to make it look like some anti-mutant group was responsible to get more support for the mutant cause."

"Enough," said Erik. "Charles, you can confirm my story. Read my mind."

"No," said Charles. "I can't do that to you."

Erik knelt before Charles. "You must. Read my mind. See the truth."

"Alright." Charles raised his hand to his temple.

"Whoa," said Erik. "You were actually going to read my mind. That's a major breach of privacy."

"You asked him to," said Logan.

"It was a gesture," said Erik. "I didn't actually think you would take me up on it."

"It doesn't matter," said Charles. "I've already read your mind three times since we got on the plane."

"What!" said Erik.

"Yes, I don't need to touch my finger to my temple to read minds," said Charles. "That's just theatrics."

"I can't work with you people." Erik got up and walked towards the front of the plane.

"We're in a plane," said Charles. "You can't exactly storm out of here."

"Yes I can." Erik used his powers to rip the door from the plane and hopped on it like it was a surfboard.

Charles, Hank, and Logan clung for dear life as the plane began to decompress. "That could have gone better," said Charles.
