Hey everyone, sorry for the delays I will be continuing this story but the updates will come when they come. I just started school last week and I've been very busy since then, anyways I'll write when I can and please just be patient.
Chapter 11
Toll kept an eye on things but mostly he watched Roxy as she paced around nervously waiting for Lee and Barney to return; no doubt she was worried about what they were doing, so he decided to go talk to her see if he could calm her down a little bit.
"Hey, how about a drink while we wait?" he offered stepping into her path.
Roxy nodded, "Sure, I'm sorry I've wrecked your birthday party."
"Don't worry about it, there'll be more. You don't need to worry about the guys either, they can take care of themselves." he told her as he grabbed a couple of drinks from the fridge handing her one.
"I know, it's just the look on Lee's face while he strangled Mike; angery but it seemed there was a bit of enjoyment too. Is Lee a killer?" Roxy said getting out the one thing that was on her mind.
Toll was taken back by the question, in truth Lee was a killer but all of them knew of the cover he'd created as a salesman to protect Roxy and so she wouldn't be scared of him.
Hale bailed him out, "Ask him for yourself when he gets back, in the meantime it's a party!" he exclaimed and cranked up the music before starting to dance.
Roxy couldn't help but smile a little, Hale had a certain style when he danced. Soon she was tapping her foot to the beat and Toll pulled her up to dance with them.
'I'll talk to Lee later.' She thought as she twirled around and danced.
Lee rubbed his forehead with his hand but no matter how hard he tried the picture of Roxy's face starring at him shocked wouldn't go away.
"Think it might be time to come clean Christmas." Barney told him.
"No, if I do that I'll loose her. I just need to think." he countered back.
"Don't kid yourself Lee, she saw the real you tonight and you know she's still there waiting for you when we get back. The truth wouldn't hurt her now as much as it would have in the beginning." he scolded Lee but with reasoning.
Barney had never seen his friend so happy until Roxy came along and if she truly loved him; she'd accept the truth about what he does.
"Yeah, pull over." Lee ordered as they came upon a bar still going full swing at one in the morning.
Barney did so already knowing they'd be dropping Mike off here so someone could take him home or maybe to a hospital instead of killing him.
They rolled him out and carried over close to the front door propping him up against the wall so he looked passed out.
As they drove back towards Tool's place Lee thought over how he was going to tell Roxy the truth about everything, she deserved to know.
Roxy lined up her shot eyeing the number three ball balancing on the edge of the corner pocket.
"Not too hard now." Hale taunted from his seat on the couch watching her.
She paid no attention to him and made her shot sinking the red ball but not the white one before moving to make another shot.
"If you keep this up, I'm going to be out of money." Toll joked as he stood with his cue waiting for his turn; he'd bet her twenty bucks he could beat her at a game of pool.
Roxy giggled, "This was your idea, besides I beat Lee the first night we met so that should have told you something."
"What?" he asked confused as she made another ball go in the hole leaving the eight ball left.
"That I'm a really good pool player!" she exclaimed pausing to drink some of her beer.
Toll smiled while the others laughed, getting her to drink had been a good idea she was much more calmer and willing to talk to them.
Roxy missed the eight ball as the sound of the truck pulling in distracted her, eyes now glued to the door; the game forgotten.
The guys noticed the noise too and also waited though Toll slipped the twenty next to Roxy's beer seeing as she'd have won if not for the distraction.
Barney went inside first, upon noticing everyone was starring at him.
"Everything is fine." he annouced and went to the fridge for a cold beer.
Lee stood outside just to make sure he was sure about telling Roxy the truth and with a firm nod to himself; he went inside and Roxy hugged him tightly.
"I was so worried." she whispered to him.
"It's okay, I'm fine." he told her before they broke apart from each other.
"That's good, whenever we're finished here. Can we go somewhere to talk?" she said knowing it had to be done.
"Of course we can Rox, right after the cake." he replied and soon afterwards Barney brought it out placing it in front of Toll.
The cake was round with chocolate icing and written on top in blue was, 'Happy Birthday Toll'.
"Happy Birthday Toll!" everyone cheered making him smile widely.
"Thanks guys, let's eat. Roxy, would you do the honor of cutting the cake?" Toll said knowing full well that none of them could cut the cake equally.
"It'd be my pleasure." she replied and Barney handed her the knife.
As she cut Lee couldn't help but notice how much precision and care she put into cutting each piece; they were all perfectly the same size.
She'd done it with the pie before as well but back then he figured she was just good at cutting out the pieces; it was actually pretty amazing.
Roxy enjoyed the soft, moist chocolate cake complete with a chocolate cream filling as well it was so good that everybody had seconds.
"Where'd you get this cake man? I want one for my birthday." Hale asked Barney who grinned happily the cake had been a hit.
"The Beautiful Bakery." he replied making Roxy smile since she worked there and knew how much work Ritchie put into all his cakes.
Lee took her hand in his, "We'd better get going now, later guys." he said.
Roxy nodded, "Goodbye everyone, it was nice meeting you all."
"Bye Roxy, Lee and thanks for everything." Toll told them.
"See you guys, and Roxy don't let the last of your beer go to waste." Barney said pointing to it where the twenty still sat.
"Got it." she said drinking the last bit of the beer and grabbing the twenty on the way out.
Lee drove them to his place for a change instead of Roxy's and let her go inside first to look around.
"This place is beautiful, and much bigger than mine which is surprising for a single guy." Roxy commented, making him grin.
"I like to live comfortably." he said as they settled in the living room for the long chat that was over due.
"Are you a killer?" She asked point blank not knowing much of any other way to ask him and his house proved he made more than a sales man did in a life time.
"Of some sorts yes; I'm a mercenary part of a well trained team hired for all sorts of jobs but killing is a big part of it and we get paid fairly well. I didn't tell you before because it would have scared you off and you knowing this is dangerous; you could be targeted for information." he replied and explained a lot.
Roxy breathed deeply to keep calm and not freak out,
"Barney and the others are your team members." she stated and he nodded in confirmation.
"It also explains your medical skills and why I couldn't reach you for a few days." she said aloud.
Lee nodded, "We travel a lot and we do get injured from time to time."
'He's still a good guy.' she reasoned with herself.
"Since you're being completely honest about your job and everything, I should do the same." she told him.
"Mike wasn't the only reason I left my previous town. There was a huge baking contest a couple of months ago and I entered it hoping to win the grand prize; a brand new bakery. I did my very best to win but in the end I was disqualified for cheating even though I didn't; someone framed me." she paused and Lee gave her a look of sympathy.
"After that my rep as a baker was destoryed and a lot of people treated me like dirt, so I moved away knowing there was something better out there waiting for me." she explained.
"That's awful, I'm sorry it happened to you." he said.
"Thanks, but now I have you, and all my other new friends. I still bake just at home so history doesn't repeat itself." Roxy said looking on the bright side.
Lee nodded, although it seemed to him that if Roxy wanted to be a baker again she should be able to regardless of what happened.
"I'm glad we can be honest with each other, it makes things a lot easier. Now the only question is; are we good to stay together?" he said.
"Yes." she replied firmly, because like it or not she was in love with Lee and she was taking a chance on love for the very first time.
"Yes, come here." he said reaching over and pulling her to him for a kiss.
