Kill Switch

There was a loud knock on the door followed by the Avatar letting herself into Asami's office. Asami looked up from the spreadsheets on her desk.

"What are you doing?" she asked with a smile.

Korra bounded up to her.

"I'm here to take you on a lunch date!" she announced proudly.

Asami pushed her chair out and stood.

"Okay, where are you taking me?" She rounded the desk and stood in front of her girlfriend.

"I was thinking Lee's," Korra responded. "That sound good?"

"Sounds great!"

Korra grabbed her hand and started towing her to the door.

"I even drove here myself!"

Asami raised an eyebrow.

"Really?"

"Yeah! I took one of your motorbikes, I hope that's okay," she added sheepishly.

They reached the elevator and Asami smirked as she pressed the arrow button.

"How'd you manage to make it here in one piece?"

Korra jutted out her bottom lip.

"What're you talking about? I'm a great driver!"

The elevator dinged and they stepped in.

"Of course," Asami joked and she pushed the button for ground floor.

"Break! Break!" Asami shouted as she held onto Korra's midriff for dear life. "You need to shift down!" They raced down the street, weaving between vehicles at speeds that Asami knew weren't legal.

"Asami, I know what I'm doing," Korra called back to her. As she sped up, she fiddled with the gear shift and the bike jerked without warning.

Asami gasped and tightened her hold on Korra, fully believing she was going to fall off.

Spirits, she's going to kill us, she thought as she buried her head between Korra's shoulder blades.

After what felt like an eternity of enduring the smell of burning rubber accompanied by sudden jerky movements and abrupt stops, Asami dared a glance.

"Korra! You're gonna hit the—"

Korra quickly swerved the bike, nearly crashing into the steel framework of the bridge. Asami grit her teeth together as she held on for dear life. Car horns and angry shouting came from all directions.

They made it over the bridge and Korra brought the bike to a forceful stop at the light. Asami took a steadying breath, released Korra, and instead leaned forward to cover Korra's hands with her own. If they were going to ever get to Lee's in one piece, Asami knew she'd better take control.

"I'm going to show you how to do it correctly, okay?"

"Er…yeah that sounds like a good idea," Korra said sheepishly.

Asami curled her fingers over Korra's.

"When the light turns green, I'm going to throttle and slowly release the clutch."

And like magic, the light turned green. Asami throttled the bike and released the clutch, allowing the motorbike to speed up smoothly. As they cruised leisurely down the street, Asami instructed Korra to shift here and there. The ride was nowhere near as terrifying as when Korra was driving.

Korra laughed.

"Wow this is much better than my driving!"

Asami chuckled.

"Would you like to give it a go?"

Korra nodded vigorously. But before Asami's hands even made it back to Korra's waist, the engine died.

Asami scrunched her eyebrows together in confusion.

"What happened?"

Korra turned back to her looking rather embarrassed.

"I accidentally pressed the kill switch."
