Rin crept quietly out of the village, seen by none. She did this often at night; she felt trapped in the walls of the hut she shared with Kaede. She preferred the sky to be her roof, the grass her carpet. Silently, she made her way to the river; to the place she thought of as her own.

As she came near the river, she saw something glinting on the other side of her tree. Suddenly filled with excitement, she began running to her little nest. Sesshomaru-sama is here! He came to see me!

She was about to call for her lord, to tell him she was there, when she rounded the tree. What she saw was too sacred to ruin with words.

In his sleep, Sesshomaru was breathing slowly, his face partially obscured by his hair, which shone in the moonlight. He seems peaceful, thought Rin. This unguarded moment was so rare, that the little girl couldn't imagine breaking it.

Instead, Rin quietly settled by her lord's side, careful not to wake him. She pulled his furry white mokomoko over herself like a blanket and put her head on his chest, which rose and fell slowly. I wish this could last forever.

And although no one saw, Sesshomaru smiled in his sleep."
