Volume 2 - Sea Vipers

Chapter 3: Storm on the Horizon

Green eyes opened slow and adjusted to her surroundings, and what she saw first was the bottom of the second level of a bunk bed, which she noticed had an eagle marking, and it was a very familiar sight to her. Then, she looked to her side and saw a candle on a nightstand which burned quietly.

"I'm in a ship," she mused as she looked at the wooden wall where a yellow banner with a majestic silver eagle hung. "In an Aldmeri Dominion ship."

"The Vestige awakens once again," said a familiar voice, and she looked at the direction of the voice as she sat from her bed, and saw the Prophet, or rather, a projection of him. "Come, we must speak."

Valritte stood up and walked close to the projection of the Prophet and spoke. "Where am I? Where are you?"

"As I feared, we arrived in different locations. I am in a city near the sea, in a land of eternal spring. The air smells of the ocean and of markets and gardens," he answered, but then shook his head. "It matters not. You have awakened once again, and we must set you on your path."

"How long was I unconscious?" The Battlemage asked as she ignored the last statement of the Prophet.

"Days? Weeks? I cannot tell. The voyage between worlds disrupted all sense of time and space. I know only that you were deposited into the sea, and some charitable soul fished you out and brought you to dry land," he answered, his voice was quiet.

Valritte remained in silence for but a moment as she remembered someone. "Naruto… we left him in Coldharbour…"

"The General knows well how to handle himself, do not worry as I can feel his presence, and you must decide what you should do next. Meanwhile, I must focus on searching for a way to repay Lyris' bold sacrifice. I cannot simply abandon her to the wrath of Molag Bal." The Prophet's voice was sad and Valritte nodded, for what Lyris did was indeed very bold and noble.

"When will I see you again?"

"I cannot foresee that. Not yet. But we will meet again," he assured her. "There is still much we need to accomplish, for 'tis only the beginning of your true journey. Though be wary, Vestige. Our very plane of existence is in peril. The threat of Molag Bal looms across all Tamriel, and chaos spreads in its shadow."

"Danger roams the land and will assume many forms. Do not let it catch you off-guard," he warned her, and she nodded in agreement.

"Aye, but now, I need to know where to go."

"You must find your own path. But perhaps there is a reason for the place in which you find yourself. Explore. Search for a course to lend your hand. You are the Palatine Battlemage of the Uzumaki Legion, remember that. Join with others if you must. You might even seek out those who rescued you from the sea. The choice is yours, as the General always say."

"I will search for those who rescued me, but the question is how," she said as she investigated a mirror near her and saw her slightly torn clothing from Coldharbour.

"You were dragged ashore on an island beach, but I sense that you are now aboard a ship in port. Go ashore and seek out the captain of the vessel. Perhaps he or she can point you toward the charitable spirit who was responsible for your rescue," he answered.

"Yet you also said that there are those who might need my help."

"Indeed. I sense that even now there are good people near you who face grave danger. They need your assistance should you be willing to give it, and I believe you will help them if the General did teach you many things," he explained as Valritte looked back towards him. "To thwart the will of Molag Bal, we must skirmish with evil wherever it rears its head."

"That I agree, I'm a warrior and a soldier, and Molag Bal just placed himself in my opposition. And I would need allies for that, and I know the Uzumaki Legion will come, but I fear they are not enough," she said, and the Prophet nodded in agreement.

"We do not face these troubled times alone. Many shall rise to fight this tide of darkness. The Uzumaki Legion is powerful, yes, but remember, wherever you go, you will encounter others who share your courage and valour. Help them if you can and enlist their aid if you have need of it. But first, remember this," he said while Valritte listened in full attention. "You and the General are intertwined by fate, sooner or later, you will find each other."

Then the projection of the Prophet vanished, and Valritte was left alone in the room illumined by a small candle. She sat back to her bed and pondered on the words of the Prophet until a knock interrupted her.

"You're awake. The Captain said you should go to him on deck when you wake up," a woman said and Valritte looked up to see an Altmer that wore a brown tunic and grey trousers.

"Where are we?" Valritte asked.

"Vulkhel Guard." The woman left after she answered Valritte's question and the said battlemage widened her eyes slightly.

"I'm in Auridon? Oh great, just the place where Ayrenn mostly resides…" she thought as she stood up from the bed and walked out of the room where she was towards the stairs that led to the upper deck of the ship she was. But before she reached the steps, the chef on board called her.

"Hey, you must be hungry from sleeping that long," said the Bosmer man. "Here, food and drink for you."

Valritte nodded in appreciation and sat on a stool and began to eat in silence while the chef left her alone to do his own work. After she finished, she wiped her mouth and gurgled her mouth with water before she swallowed it and left.

Once she was under the sun, she saw the sailors and deckhands of the ship, and not far from her view, the walls of Vulkhel Guard. On the beach, she saw market stalls and many Altmer that went on their daily lives, though she noticed the banner of the Dominion flew high from many places.

"You're awake!" A man exclaimed and she turned to see a Breton with black mutton chop beard; he also had brown eyes and wore a red tunic that was covered by plate armour. He also wore brown gloves and brown trousers. "Ha! I was worried you'd never wake up. You slept all the way from Khenarthi's Roost. Right through the hurricane!"

Valritte delicately raised an eyebrow as she watched the man drink ale from his mug. "What hurricane?"

"You don't remember? A Khajiit named Razum-dar fished you out of the ocean," he answered and Valritte was shocked because she knew who that was. "He paid me a small fortune to bring you here. We barely made it out of Khenarthi's Roost before the hurricane hit!"

"Where is Razum-dar now?" She asked as she knew who she needed to see first.

"He was headed to Eagle's Strand, an old fort on Khenarthi's Roost," he answered as she nodded in understanding. "My ship won't return there for some time, but a boatswain on the far dock can take you. Look for Sugar-Claws."

"All right, I may do that," she answered as she looked down at the worn iron sword at her side. "Thank you, Captain."

He smiled as she went down the quay and looked for the far dock, though, she went through many people before she was able to exit the quay she was on.

"No money, no armour, an old sword, and I look like a beggar, I need a bath," she mused as she walked on the white shores of Vulkhel Guard towards the far end of the harbour. "And I'm too far from Naruto's hideout at Mathiisen on foot and the roads of Auridon isn't very safe at the moment, so finding Razum-dar sounds better."

"Now, Sugar-Claws, where are you?" Valritte muttered to herself as she passed some stalls, and then, she saw a female Khajiit with fur that resembled a tiger; she wore brown leather armour with motifs of the Khajiit, mostly a crescent moon. She held a ledger as she wrote in silence beneath a cover from the sun.

"Sugar-Claws?" Valritte asked.

"What is it? Is this about the fish? I took what I paid for!" The woman exclaimed until she realized that it was another person and was embarrassed. "Um, never mind. What do you want?

"I want to travel to Khenarthi's Roost," said Valritte, but she did not expect Sugar-Claws to sigh in relief.

"Good, I have a business on Khenarthi's Roost. The passage is free! The inspectors won't be looking for the two of us," she excitedly said, then, she noticed Valritte's state of dress. "Er, whenever you're ready."

"I'm ready," she said.

"You sure?"

"Yeah."

-Eagle's Strand, Khenarthi's Roost-

This island off the south coast of Elsweyr is named after the Khajiiti goddess of weather and the sky, who is usually represented as a great hawk. She finds many worshipers among the cat-folk's sailors and farmers, especially those who grow moon-sugar cane.

The boat they were in docked in the beach and Valritte saw several Dominion soldiers that laid in the ground with anguish on their faces as they covered whatever ached in them with their hands. "Looks like a battle happened here."

She stepped down from the boat before she nodded in thanks to Sugar-Claws. Then, she observed the place and saw the ruins of an Imperial fort; she watched as healers tended to the wounded before she walked passed them, and noticed many wrecked cargo and damaged boats, though, she moved on, as she did not want to concern herself with it, as she too was in need.

Then, on a short distance, she saw a Khajiit in a black leather armour of the Dominion. He had a golden fur, with a red mohawk hair. There were also two silver earrings on his right ear. "Hm, Razum-dar, Eye of the Queen."

She walked towards the Khajiit who noticed her and beckoned her to come closer. "Ah, Valritte, come, we need your face to become familiar, so your presence won't be questioned. Come, stay by my side."

"What do you mean?" Valritte asked.

"This one saw you fall from thin air. Pop, drop and splash. Raz would have tried for a backflip, but under the circumstances, this one is most impressed, Valritte," said Raz while Valritte snorted.

"Why did you send me to Vulkhel Guard?"

"Razum-dar is here on a mission of some… delicacy, I'm sure you know this one's work. This one did not know how your presence here would change it, though while no one knows who you are in this place except Raz, it's best to be careful," he said while Valritte agreed, she knew if some unfavourable character recognized her, it would be trouble. "But honestly, Raz is glad to see you again, it's been some time, and he's not going to ask you how you end up in the situation you were, but you may be just what he needs."

"Though you need some armour, luckily, Raz got some spare, though, be prepared to put on Dominion colours."

Valritte shook her head in amusement as she followed Raz towards a tent and took handed her a tray with a leather armour made with the Eagle motif of the Dominion.

"Go out the back and dress, then talk to Raz," he said before he left Valritte by herself, then she walked behind towards a tree and made sure no one can see her, then she dropped off her clothing which included her underwear, and she was naked.

She looked at herself and traced the small scars in her otherwise smooth and fair skin, but before she went deeper into her thoughts, she put on the armour Raz gave to her and threw away her ragged clothes. "I'll take a bath later."

"So Raz, what do you need?"

The Khajiit turned to her and observed for a moment before he answered. "First, where did you come from?"

"You wouldn't believe even if I tell you," she said while Raz shook his head.

"If you'd landed five paces north, you'd have squashed a rat, slipped on its guts, and cracked your head on a signal drum. The whole island would have known your arrival. So where did you come from, truly, this one asks as a friend?"

Valritte sighed deeply before she answered him truly. "Coldharbour, Molag Bal's realm. He plans to invade Tamriel and I left Naruto there."

"Naruto said otherwise a few days ago, but a Daedric Prince, you say? If Raz didn't know you, he'd smell the lies, but this one can smell nothing but an ocean breeze. If anyone else asks you… where will you say you came from?" Valritte placed the first part of Razum-dar's sentence in the back of her mind for later as she knew what Raz asked, given that he was on a mission.

"I'm a Dominion soldier who survived the shipwreck."

Razum-dar's face burst into a smile at her answer. "Yes, lie with confidence! A straight face, and a gleam in your eye. Well done! It is very good right now to fit in, Naruto trained you for many years. Your sudden arrival? It does not fit in, you understand?"

"Very much so. Now, you said Naruto talked to you a few days ago, where is he?"

"Mistral, he's doing some work unrelated to why Raz is here. But we might see him along the way," answered Raz, then he beckoned her to follow him. "Come, let's fit in."

The two ran towards an Altmer woman with a braided silver hair clad in steel armour, she looked like a high-ranking officer by the look at her armour.

"Commander Karinith, a moment?" The woman turned towards Raz. "This recruit survived the shipwreck without injuries, you mentioned something about Shattered Shoals yes?"

The commander nodded and Valritte saw a few noticeable scars on her face, she mused that this one is a veteran of many battles.

"Glad you're up and about, recruit," she said, her voice sounded relieved which was complemented by her caramel eyes. "I'm in need of a scout to head to Shattered Shoals. Most of our fleet foundered to the west, but we've had few survivors trickle in from that direction."

Valritte nodded in understanding, as she wanted to fit in first before she goes to look for Naruto. "What do you need?"

"We captured a Sea Viper spying on the camp. Those pirates never travel alone. Find out if they're around Shattered Shoals and if so, what they're doing on this island," she ordered. "Of course, you should assist any shipwreck survivors you find. We must each do our part."

"I'll do what I can."

"Good, now, before you head to Shattered Shoals, speak with Ealcil. He just returned from exploring a nearby temple. That wizard claims to know something about everything, so he may have insight on how these Sea Vipers operate."

"Understood," she answered then Raz called her.

"Ealcil is this way." She then ran after him towards near the other side of the ruin, to the Dominion camp, then, she saw a man in light robes and had auburn hair, with a beard that matched it.

Raz came up to him as he watched an orb that floated above a well while it sprouted water continuously. "Ealcil, this recruit wishes to speak with you."

The wizard remained silent for a moment before he spoke. "Marvellous, isn't it? We'll have to construct a special room for the Mourning Stone when we bring it back to the Mages Guild… I'm sorry, did you need something?"

"Commander Karinith said you returned from a temple," she said, and the wizard nodded.

"Yes, the Temple of the Mourning Springs is an old Khajiit ruin not far from here. We excavated the Mourning Stone from one of the chambers," he said as they all looked at the orb that sprouted torrents of water to different sides. "As you can see, its supply of water appears… endless."

"Did you encounter any Sea Vipers when you went there?"

Ealcil narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean? Pirates? In an ancient Khajiit temple? Preposterous! All we saw were the undead warriors that overran our camp."

"Huh?" Valritte narrowed her eyes at the mention of the undead. "Why were you attacked by the undead?"

"I have no idea," he whispered, but he shrugged. "I have twelve ideas, but they're far less fascinating than the Mourning Stone. Probably some sort of ancient curse - it usually is with these things."

"I know, so what can you tell me about Sea Vipers?" She asked as the wizard huffed.

"Arrogant Sea Elf pirates. To my recollection, they aren't known to raid Khenarthi's Roost," he said before something else came up to his mind. "Oh, and they have a thing for snakes."

He then turned to her and spoke. "But I'm sure we both have more important matters to attend. If you'd excuse me?" Ealcil said as he walked away from Valritte and Raz to do what he needed to do.

"We should speak privately, come, near the statue on the other side of the fort."

She nodded and walked with Razum-dar through the ruin and came near an old statue, then, the Khajiit leaned his back on the pedestal of the statue.

"You still know how to do things, this one's impressed," he said as he nodded to himself. "You fit in, and no one will stop you from walking away. But, as this one said, there are opportunities here for people that fall from the sky."

She raised an eyebrow before she spoke. "I'm listening."

"Ealcil is most impressed with his newest bauble. But the undead is a threat to all of Khenarthi's Roost. If you want to, you could search the Temple of the Mourning Springs. Determine how to contain the dead there. Then, the locals should see we came here as allies, not conquerors."

"All right," she said. "Anything else?"

"Karinith told you how the hurricane dashed the fleet into Khenarthi's Roost. Now the Sea Vipers are picking at the bones of our ships. Strange, yes?" He said while Valritte nodded. "You could scout the coast, as the commander said. Prove yourself to the soldiers."

"Agreed, though, where are you headed?"

Razum-dar scratched his chin with his claws before he answered. "Oh, there's far less glamorous work to be done in Mistral, at the northern end of the island. Let's meet up there, after you've done what you decide to do, and I'll tell Naruto where you are if I see him. Until then, Bright Moons guide your steps."

-Mistral: Later-

Naruto sat on a chair as he ate within the Inn as he listened from some Khajiit that talked about the Sea Vipers on the island, then, a certain Khajiit entered his view and he drank some water and cleared his throat.

"Raz, what can I do for you?" He asked as while the Eye of the Queen took a sit in front of him.

"Valritte is here, and this one had her pose as a soldier of the Queen," he whispered to Naruto and he raised an eyebrow before he turned his head outside the window, toward the town square.

"So I was right when I felt her presence some time ago, albeit faint," said Naruto and Raz nodded.

"Raz sent her to Vulkhel Guard because he did not know how to deal with her arrival, but it seems she found her way back here, so Raz had her do some favour for me before she comes here, and this one told her that you are here in Mistral," said the agent of Ayrenn to the General who looked down the papers near him.

"She'll kill me when she sees me, or at least she'll try to, she thought she left me in Coldharbour, then you told her that I'm here." Naruto's comment took Raz's attention, but he didn't make a comment, or least was not able to, as Naruto continued.

"She left Coldharbour before I did, but due to some complications, I returned to Tamriel days before she did," he finished and Raz nodded.

"This one head cannot comprehend all that Daedra talk, so, best not think about it," he said, and Naruto gave him a smile before he stood up.

"I'll find Valritte, do what you're supposed to here, and take care," said Naruto as he dropped a few gold coins at his table and left the inn and his Khajiiti friend.

-Temple of the Mourning Springs: Later-

Naruto found Valritte's trail from Shattered Shoals where Auridon Marines were helped by Valritte and told him that she said that she headed for the Temple of the Mourning Springs, and that was two hours ago, thus, Naruto made haste and now within the Temple after he went through ruined areas and webbed places that two people went through from what he could make of them.

Then, he entered a courtyard full of bones, and a woman nearly crashed to him, but he was able to catch the woman who turned out to be Valritte, and a spell struck her backwards.

"Oh, hey there Val, just my luck," he said in a jovial manner, but Valritte wanted nothing of it.

"Fuck you," she muttered as she wrestled herself out of Naruto's arms. "I thought I left you in Coldharbour, but enough of that, I've got more important things to do than deal with you."

Naruto was amused by her reaction and her answer, so he decided to poke fun of her. "Taking a bath should be the priority, you smell terrible, I wonder what Razum-dar thought of that earlier."

Then he dodged a green blast of energy as he laughed loudly. "Or would you rather prefer that I drag you to a bath and clean your body thoroughly?"

Cue another energy blast that he dispersed with ease as he watched her leave him in silence. "Will you actually try to drag her into a bath?"

"… you know Kurama? Sometimes I don't know if you know the meaning of a joke."

"That was a joke? Thought you were serious since I can smell her from here, also, fuck you."

"Yeah, yeah, shut it. But seriously, I might do that, I wasn't jesting when I told her that she smells terrible."

"Then you can get freaky on the bath along the way," said Kurama as Naruto followed Valritte's trail down the temple.

"No."

"Why the fuck not? She's still a virgin."

"Yes exactly, she's still a virgin because she's single and not my wife."

"What about Naryu?"

"That's different, that's repayment, besides, Vennesetiid started that, I'm just paying for it."

"Ayrenn? Alwinarwe?"

"Alright, you win. But still, my answer about Valritte is a definite 'No'."

Naruto stood near a doorway as he neared Valritte's location but within his mind, he and Kurama continued their mental conversation.

"On a serious note, can you feel it Naruto?" the tailed beast ask his friend.

"What?"

"A storm on the horizon."

"Yeah."

A/N: There we go, sorry for the overdue update.

-Pairings-

Vennesetiid - Winds of Time (From the old version of this story - Female Dragon, older than Paarthurnax, and as this chapter said, Naruto's wife)

-Half-Altmer, Half-Nord - Full Altmer in Appearance with some mix of the Nord blood, hence the whitish skin

-She's basically the Unnamed Female High Elf Hero from the original cinematic trailer of the Elder Scrolls Online and the main character from the cinematic trailer of the Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset, so I don't need to put up the screenshot of how she looks in-game.
