I actually wanted to write something light and happy for a change (and that never happens!), so this is what I came up with. I feel like this might be OOC...I'm not great at writing fluff/cutesy stuff, but here's the next installment anyhow.

And the arms of the ocean are carrying me,
And all this devotion was rushing over me.

- Never Let Me Go

Cindy was beyond dejected. All of Friday had passed and there had been no word from Neutron. Normally, she would just chalk up any lack of communication between them to their busy schedules, but today was no ordinary day. It was their second anniversary.

He left before she did in the mornings, so she hadn't had the chance to see him all day. Usually, he would kiss her on the forehead to say goodbye, but she couldn't recall any physical contact today whatsoever. At some point during the week he had mentioned an extended work trip, so perhaps that explained it.

Cindy found herself getting more and more concerned as the day went on. He hadn't picked up her calls at all, or responded to her frantic texts, and quite frankly, she was a bit worried that he'd gotten himself marooned somewhere in the hover-car, or worse, was being chased by some intergalactic fiend or the other. (This wasn't, she told herself, unreasonable speculation, given his penchant for disaster)

As the hours grew later and later, and the supper she'd made for him grew cold, she toyed with the idea of getting the spare hover-car going so she could harass Sheen into telling her Jimmy's exact whereabouts. It was just as she'd located the keys that she heard a click at the door. Instantly, she was flooded with relief. Soon enough, though, the relief was replaced by rage.

He walked in the door and gave her a tired but sweet smile. She crossed her arms over her chest and fixed him with a glare, even though he could not possibly know how happy she was to see him.

"I'm so glad to be home." He sighed and walked towards her. "I thought I would never get back in time."

"I didn't either." She retorted. "Hell, I was convinced I might never see you again!"

He had to conceal a laugh. "Aww come on, Cindy, don't be like that. I'm perfectly fine."

"I was just about to go yell at that idiot Sheen to tell me where on God's green earth you went-"

"He wouldn't have known." An amused look crossed his expression.

"Well, no phone call, no email, no nothing! And the Hover GPS tracker wasn't working either, so-"

"I disabled it." His bright blue eyes looked into her emerald ones nervously. "And by the way, happy anniversary."

This seemed to be the last straw for Cindy.

"You WHAT?"

"I disabled it so I could work on your anniversary present in secret." He offered meekly.

"Oh so finally you actually remember!"

"Of course I do, Cindy. You really think I'd forget?" He cautiously sidled up to her.

She bit her lip to keep from crying. "I would have taken yesterday off so I could have had the whole thing set up for today. That would have been ideal. But they needed me in Wednesday and-whatever." He waved his hand indifferently. "None of that matters. If you promise not to kill me with your eyes on the spot, I'll tell you what I have for you."

Her gaze softened just the slightest bit, and the tension in her shoulders dissipated as he took her hand and admired the smooth pearl on her ring finger.

"Go on."

"So, the small thing first." He rummaged in his jeans pocket for a second and produced a pretty velvet box. She stared up at him shyly, almost as if they were kids again, and she couldn't let him see the growing blush on her face.

She took the box from his hands and opened it to find a beautiful bracelet with silver heart links. At the center was a bigger heart with an indent in the middle.

"Press it." He instructed her, and she did.

The room was silent except for the sound of their hearts beating in the sync and the gentle lull of ocean waves lapping against sand.

"Jimmy-"She looked up in awe. He knew he didn't have to tell her about it but he did anyways.

"I know you get really stressed sometimes with cases and stuff like that and...I'm not always the easiest to put up with..." She snorted at that and he rolled his eyes. "But maybe this will help. I know you like listening to ambient music when you're working and-"

She didn't let him finish. Her eyes were welling with tears, and she scooped him up in a tight hug. "This is incredible."

"I'm so glad you like it."

"I love it! How'd you do it?"

"Apparently Carl, Sheen, or Libby must have pressed the audio record button in the hover car while they were arguing about how to get to us and trying to figure out the controls. And last month, I was cleaning out the hard drive when I found a bunch of old audio recordings, and voila! Of course, I spent way more time than I should have listening to their arguments and some of ours before I actually got to work on the bracelet, but you can't blame me. At one point, you can actually hear Libby smacking the two of them on the head."

Cindy laughed. "Now that, I want to hear."

Suddenly she remembered what he'd said and blurted out. "So this is only the first part of the gift?"

"Eager, aren't we, Vortex?"

Cindy smirked. "Do you really have to outdo me at everything Neutron? This makes my anniversary gift look sophomoric in comparison."

"Oh come on, you know I don't need anything fancy. Just getting you to marry me was half the struggle."

"For your information, I liked you way before you even thought of me as a viable option, so don't give me that, Mr. Every-Woman-In-The-Milky Way-Flocks-To-Me."

It was his turn to roll his eyes. "Is my gift your yearly jab about April and Betty?"

"No, actually, I got you tickets to that sold out science convention thing you've been wanting to go to. Oh and chocolate and some new lab equipment too."

"You can't be serious! Those tickets sold out a minute after they were released, and every scientist worth his salt is going." He got a mischievous glint in his eye and rubbed his hands together. "Wait until I rub it in Seymour's face that I have tickets and he doesn't."

Cindy grinned. "I would like to see you upstage that loser. Not that you didn't already do that by getting a PhD from MIT while he got his from Pomona...but rubbing a little salt in the wound never hurt anyone."

Jimmy leaned over and gave Cindy a quick kiss on the lips. "Thank you so much Cindy, I really appreciate it."

"So what is this magical second gift you practically gave me a heart attack over?"

Jimmy took a deep breath and then placed his hands around Cindy's waist. "I found it. I found our island."

For a moment Cindy was shell-shocked. "You can't have found it. You've never been able to before-"

"Well, I finally did. And I was able to restore things: I combined the old treehouses into one stronger one, and made sure the man eating spiders were no longer populating the area. They seem to have migrated to the South side of the-"

Cindy didn't even let him finish his ramble about the spiders and jumped up and down in pure joy. "I can't believe it!" She shrieked.

"I was thinking we could spend the weekend there. Everything's all ready for us tomorrow morning."

"How absolutely perfect." She glowed with happiness. "I'm so lucky to have you Neutron."

"And I you, Vortex."

"But next time you worry me like you did tonight, you have another thing coming. Got it?"

"Understood."

"Good."
