The house was quiet as all its inhabitants slept soundly in their beds, except one. The man found himself sitting at his dining table, his hands steepled before his mouth as he stared at the pamphlets strewn across the wooden surface. Even now, the drawings were moving of their own accord on the aged paper, almost taunting him in the darkness.

In the back of his mind, he knew this day was coming. He had known from the day his daughter was born, since he held her in his arms for the first time, that she was special. At that time however, he had never thought like this.

As she grew older, he began to see the signs - the floating toys, the clothes that changed colours and the food that would simply vanish, but he had brushed them all aside. If he didn't acknowledge them, then they would simply stop, right? He should have learnt from his own parents mistakes. Ignoring magic didn't just make it stop.

But there was also a side of him that had wanted it to be true, for his daughter to be gifted with such amazing powers. All the things he had heard his cousin was able to do, the things he was able to see and experience, he had wanted them for himself and it had made him slightly jealous. Now, his daughter was one of them and he wasn't sure how to feel.

"Daddy?" a soft voice asked from the doorway.

Dudley turned to see his daughter standing there, the feet of her teddy bear grazing the hardwood floor as it hung by her side. Pieces of her short blonde hair had escaped the braid her mother had put it in before bed and was sticking up in all directions as she rubbed her blue eyes.

"Princess, what are you doing awake?" he said as he gestured for her to come towards him.

"I couldn't sleep," she said as she climbed onto his lap. She began to bite her bottom lip, a sign that there was something she wanted to say but was unsure of how to say it.

"Why not?" he prodded as he tried patting down her wild hair.

She looked around a bit before she asked, "Was what that lady said today true? Am I a witch?"

Dudley's eyes darted to the pamphlets before he said, "Yes, you are a witch, Sophia."

She reached for one of the pamphlets herself, watching the moving pictures as she had earlier that day. "Wow," she said. "But I don't know the first thing about magic."

"Neither do I," Dudley said, "but we'll find out together."

As he held her close and they flipped through the pamphlet again, Dudley made up his mind. He was a father now and he wanted the best for his daughter and to help her in any way he could. Years had passed since he last saw Harry but it was time to swallow his pride and made amends. He didn't know how Harry would receive him but it was time for a new beginning and he only hoped his cousin felt the same way.
