CHAPTER ONE
Whatever the hell is going on just started a few weeks ago. It started off with a couple small stories and videos that were posted on Facebook and YouTube and everyone just thought it was a giant hoax, seeing as how April's fool day was only a few weeks away.
But that all changed when the emergency broadcast took over every TV channel and radio station. They said to stay indoors, but only if it is safe and if not, then go to a safe zone in our local area.
That is what Eva did, she locked all her windows and doors and checked them regularly and stayed inside. She sat on her bed in her room with a baseball bat by her side and her pocket knife in her hand, while on her phone talking to her mother.
Her mother, Sarah, lived by herself on the other side of town and although Eva wanted to go and get her, Sarah made sure that she stayed in her own house, even yelling at Eva to make her understand. She got Eva to agree to stay until the news said to otherwise and she got Eva to calm down.
That didn't last long when the phone cut out and wouldn't re-dial, no matter how hard she had tried. She was ok at first, knowing that the cell towers are probably just overloaded, but her self-control ended when someone came running down the street screaming for help.
She watches in shock, from her living room window as the man is tackled to the ground a few houses down from her own. But her shock soon turns to horror when the man that tackled the other, starts biting and tearing into him, eating him.
She can't move as she watches two other people and Mrs. Holdings join in on the murder of that man. All she can do is fall to the floor, trying desperately to catch her breath and wrap her mind around what she just witnessed. It doesn't take long for what just happened to reach her neighbors and everything just falls apart after that.
The world around her is in utter chaos, people screaming, car alarms blaring and even cars crashing into things. Her frantic heartbeat matches her breathing as she grabs all the non-perishable food in the cabinets and drops it all in the two tub containers at her feet.
She doesn't even really looking at what she is grabbing but she knows that she needs to hurry and pack up her food and other supplies and get everything in her car, so that she can leave and go to her mother's house.
After gathering all the food into the two boxes she moves them by the garage door before running down the hall and to her bedroom. It takes her a moment, as she stands in the middle of her room staring at her light blue walls, trying to calm herself enough to think about what she needs to do next.
After a few deep breaths she goes to her closet and takes out her black suit case and she throws it on her bed before rolling out her large black and orange camo duffle bag. She starts going through her dresser and starts grabbing some of her clothes, only taking pants and t-shirts, socks and underwear leaving behind all the clothes she wouldn't take with her, had she been going camping.
After packing her clothes in her suit case she grabs her laptop, tablet and cell phone and there chargers and puts them in her dark green bag pack. After setting the bag next to the suitcase on her bed, she starts going around the house and quickly grabbing all her photos and after hurriedly taking them out of there frames and she puts them in a trash bag that she sets on top of the tubs of food by the garage door.
She jogs back to her room and goes straight for the closet and pulls down a lock box from the top shelf. After pressing the code she opens it and takes out her gun that her grandfather gave her before he died.
She puts the gun in her waist band of her pants and puts the spare magazines in her pocket. After taking her suitcase, backpack and her bedding, pillows and sleeping bag out to the kitchen where everything else is stacked, she goes back to her room and grabs the camo bag and rolls it to her attached bathroom.
She then starts grabbing all the medicine, first aid, toilet paper, a few towels and other hygiene products before going to do the same with the spare bathroom and the hall closet.
After rolling the duffle bag to the kitchen she grabs the last tub container and starts going around grabbing books and anything else she might have missed on her first round, like the can opener, lighter, her jacket and other odds and ends and keep sakes.
It takes her less than an hour to pack everything in her car and she sits behind the wheel trying to calm her breathing and trying to drown out the screams and chaos that is just behind the garage door.
She turns the key and all she gets is some weird clanging noise. "No, no, no, no!" She yells as she bangs her hands against the wheel, angrily and in fear. Of all the times the car could have broken down it had to be now. All she needs is for the piece of shit car to get to her mom's house, which is only about ten miles away.
She tries it again several times and on her last try the car didn't even make a noise at all. She can't run to her mother's house, not with those things out there, people dying and coming back just to attack and kill.
She sits there crying and shaking since she doesn't know what she should do. She can't call her mother or any one, not even 911 because the phones have stopped working and a few hours ago the news and the emergency broadcast had stopped airing anything new.
While crying, she climbs out of the car and goes back inside the house and sits down at the kitchen table. She sits there crying her eyes out, shaking in fear because she knows what is outside and she knows that she can't stay here.
When she finally stops crying she reaches down and pulls out the gun from her waist band and sets it down on the table. She takes the safety off and then clenches her eyes shut because of what she is about to do. She prays to god for forgiveness and to keep her mother safe.
She takes a deep breath and opens her eyes and brings the gun to the side of her head and she stares out of her kitchen window, staring outside through the small opening between the curtains.
She lowers the gun to the table when she sees her neighbor, Justin's house and remembers that he and his girlfriend left for California for a vacation a month ago and she knows that he has a new four door truck in his garage. She knows this because she helped them pack and promised to watch his house while they were gone.
She slowly gets up and walks back into the garage and she takes the garage door opener and her metal baseball bat from her car and goes back into the house. She stares at the gun on the table and with a shaky hand she grabs it and puts it back in her waist band.
She stands by the front door and makes sure she has the door opener, house keys, gun and extra magazines and her pocket knife. She looks outside through the kitchen and living room window before unlocking the door and she locks the door behind her. She grips the bat tightly as she looks back and forth between the streets.
She sees several of those things wondering around down the road and she slowly starts her way across the street. She crouches down and hides behind a crashed car that is in the middle of the road, when one of those things looks her way.
She looks through the broken window and watches it and the others return their attention back to the other car that's alarm is blaring with blood covering the windows.
She takes a deep breath and gets up and runs to the house and she throws the bat on the other side of the fence and she quickly grabs the top and starts climbing over and flipping herself into the back yard.
She falls to the ground and bites her lip to not scream aloud, when the stinging from the scratches on her hands start to burn. She wipes the blood off of her hands onto her pants and gets up and tries to ignore the pain in her hands as she grabs the bat and walks along the side of the house and to the back door.
She grabs the bat tight before punching it through the window, breaking the glass and she then reaches in and unlocks the back door, before making her way inside.
She stands there in their kitchen and for a few moments all around her is quiet. But the quiet doesn't last long when the screams and car alarms come rushing back in.
She sets the bat down on the table and then she starts going around the house taking the food from the cupboards, medicine and toilet paper and anything else that she and her mother will need as they make their way to Atlanta, where the broadcast said a safe zone is.
It takes her a while to take all the trash bags of everything to the truck, she is very thankful that Justin left the spare keys for the truck and she said so in the letter she wrote to him.
She explains what happened from the man being killed to her car breaking down and the fact that she almost killed herself until she remembered his truck and she apologizes several times and she leaves the letter on the kitchen table.
After making sure she got everything and it is all packed away, she grabs a hammer and some nails from the garage and walks back into the house where she breaks one of their chairs and covers the whole in the back door that she made.
She walks over to the living room window and presses her garage door opener and when it starts to open, she quickly runs to the truck and opens their garage door and starts the truck. When the door is fully open she starts driving in reverse until she is parked beside her car, so happy now that her ex-husband wanted a two car garage.
She hits her door opener and she stays in the truck until it fully closes, watching those things as they start making their way to her house. She jumps out and she opens the truck bed cover and she starts throwing all her stuff from her car into the bed of the truck.
She heaves the last box into the back and jumps and screams when something or someone starts banging on the garage door. She makes sure she grabbed everything in the car before shutting and making sure the bed cover latches before climbing back behind the wheel.
She starts the truck before putting on her seatbelt, she then locks the doors and makes sure all the windows are up before hitting the door opener. She steps on the gas and runs over two of those things before driving into the street and she waits and watches both her and Justin's garage doors close.
Eva ignores those things banging against the truck until they are both closed before driving off down the street, driving around those things and other debris that lines the road.
She even has to drive up on some people's lawns because there is so must crap blocking the streets. She can't believe how one street is fine and others are in chaos and destruction.
She starts taking back roads out of town until she reaches her mother's house, trying not to pay attention to the horror of what is happening around her.
She drives down the dirt road and stops the car in front of her mother's house and she sits in the car for what seems like hours as she stares at the front door that is wide open.
She shuts off the truck and climbs out and she stands by the door as she takes the gun out and holds it be her side. "Mom! Mama, where are you?" She yells as she steps inside the house that she grew up in.
She walks around the corner to the living room and she drops the gun before falling to her knees. The man that is chewing on her mother's severed arm looks up and starts growling as her, struggling to get up which gets the attention of the other man that has his hands deep inside her mother's stomach.
She screams and grabs the gun before shooting the man in his chest which makes him fall back to the ground. She scrambles to stand up and she stares at the man that she just shot in the chest, getting back up like nothing has happened. She shoots him again and it hits him in the chest but still nothing, he is still groaning, trying to get her.
She turns to the other man that is crawling towards her and she shoots him in the head and when she sees him not moving anymore, she turns back to the other man and takes a deep breath before pulling the trigger. She stumbles back and slides down the wall, down to the floor as she stares at the mutilated corpse of her mother.
The sun is gone by the time she finally starts moving again and after covering her mother in sheet, she starts dragging one of the men out of the house, they don't belong in her mother's house, they don't belong anywhere near her mother. After moving both men out of the house she slowly makes her way back inside.
"Mama?" She asks her voice shaky as she stares at the woman who gave birth to her, who raised her alone when her father bailed, who loved her no matter the mistakes she made.
Tears fall as she staggers back and her mother steps towards her and as she does so her intestines and blood come spilling out and onto the floor.
This makes her fall to the ground and puke what little food she had today. She cries and screams as she crawls backwards away from her mother until she crawls down the hall and into the bathroom. She shuts and locks the door and screams and cries until it hurts and continues even after that.
She doesn't know when she had passed out or even what time it is but the sun is out now and she can hear her mother still banging at the door trying to get in and kill her.

Daryl tries not to stare in shock as Merle tells him his plan, telling him how they are going to steal those people's supplies. He looks at him and agrees with him, not wanting to get him angrier then he already is.
He watches Merle as he wipes the blood off his chin from the spilt lip, officer high and mighty, Shane, just gave him. He will go along with it just so he and Merle can get away from all these people.
He shakes his head and watches as Merle walks back into camp. He re-adjusts the rope that is hanging over his shoulder and starts following after him so he can get these squirrels gutted and give the meat to one of the woman so they can start on dinner.
He rolls his eyes as he walks away from one of the woman he just gave the meat to, she didn't even bother to thank him. If it wasn't for him and Merle there wouldn't be enough food to last a week with all the people in camp.
He can't wait until him and Merle leave, they will be better off on their own and not with these ungrateful people.

Eva stares at the man that is pointing a shot gun at her chest, with two teen girls and a woman cowering behind him. Eva raises her hands up slowly and tries not to cry and the man after a moment finally lowers his gun.
"I'm sorry, I thought you were one of those things… those dead people." The man said rubbing his eyes with his free hand before looking back to her. "My name is Charlie and I'm so sorry again about that."
"I'm Evangeline but you can call me Eva." She said her voice still a little shaky from having a gun pointed at her. She and Charlie shake hands and he then starts to introduce the woman behind him.
"This is my granddaughter Kailee." He said pulling the small redheaded teen to his side before gently pulling the blonde teen towards Kailee's other side. "This is Kailee's friend Melanie and this Jenna." He said as the light blonde haired woman walks up next to the girls who still look scared.
"It's nice… uh nice to meet you." Eva said slowly because saying nice to meet you sounds so strange, coming from her lips now. "There is enough food and supplies here still for all of us. We don't ned to fight over anything." She said looking around the half looted 7-11 hoping that it won't have to become a fight.
Charlie agrees and after telling the girls to stay close to him, they all start packing up their bags with whatever food or drinks that is nearby them. Eva nods her head to Charlie once more before walking a few aisles over to give them their space.
Eva drops her bag and the bottle of Jack Daniel's that she was holding hearing it crash on the floor as starts running for whoever started screaming on the aisle over.
Eva flips out her knife as she runs around the shelf to see Jenna on the floor with a dead man above her. She grabs and pulls the dead man's shirt and yanks him back towards her before slamming her knife down into his head.
She tugs her knife free before tossing him to the side before reaching her free hand out to Jenna who is crying and shaking but grabs Eva hand anyway. She helps her up and over to another aisle and to Charlie and the girls.
She lets them fuss over Jenna and after telling Charlie to check her for bites and scratches, she walks away and starts checking the store trying to find where the man came from.
She finds that the man came from outside seeing as how the front door is the only entrance and for some reason none of them noticed the door open and close. She stares outside and sees a small group of dead people walking towards the store.
So she quickly walks back to where the others are. "We need to hurry and pack up and get out of here because more of those things are coming." She tells them before going back to her bag and the box she found in the back and starts to grab anything of use.
"Do you have a car or a place to stay?" Charlie asks her as he zips up his full duffle bag. "I have a truck and yes my mo… my house. Do you?" She asks him as the girls gather around them with their full bags. "We have a car but the place we were staying at got over run with those things last night." Jenna tells her while readjusting her bag pack.
"Is this your whole group?" Eva asked looking to each of them. "It is now." Melanie whispers before shaking her head trying not to cry. "You guys can come with me to my house, it's just me." Eva said shaking her head before putting on the heavy bag pack.
"Is it safe?" Kailee asked her shyly not looking at her while she holds onto Charlie's sleeve. "Is anywhere safe anymore?" Jenna said aloud which makes both the girls even more afraid than before.
"I have only seen a few of those things near my house and it has been a while since then. I live about two miles from here, out in the country, its safe for now." Eva said placing the last few bottles of water into her box.
They agreed and after grabbing the last of the plastic bags of stuff they start to leave the store. Seeing as how Eva's hands are full, Charlie is the one to cover her and the other girls as they climb into their car and Eva puts the box and bags into the back seat of her truck.
She pulls her gun out of its new holster that she got off a dead cop and shoots the dead woman that is close to getting Charlie as he reloads his shot gun. He gives her a nod of thanks before getting in the passenger seat of the car.
She climbs in her truck after holstering the gun and starts the truck. She drives out of the parking lot and starts driving back home with them following right behind her. She wonders the whole way back home if letting them come is the best idea... but she doesn't want to be alone anymore.

Rick tries to ignore the pain in his side as he has the horse stroll down the highway going into Atlanta. It is hard to ignore all those abandoned vehicles on the other side of the highway and the turned over train to his right.
He looks towards the city and prays that Lori and Carl are somewhere safe in Atlanta but by the look of those cars he is afraid of what he is about to find.
He shakes his head at the disaster that covers the streets. He shushes the horse that is getting spooked by several walkers that are coming out of a burned bus. "Steady, it's only a few, nothing we can't out run." He tells the horse before he has him trot down the street and pass a tank.
He stops the horse and looks around when he hears what sounds like a helicopter flying by. When he sees it he snaps the reins and has the horse chase after it.
As he comes around a corner the horse rears up as they stand before hundreds of walkers. He gets the horse to start running and he prays he can get out of this hell hole of a city, alive.

Daryl sits there glaring into the fire of his little camp. He can't believe Merle decided to go to Atlanta, telling him to stay behind and go hunt until he gets back, so they can start his plan to raid the group.
He shakes his head and throws some more sticks onto the fire and shakes his head again before grabbing his crossbow and starts checking it over to make sure nothing is wrong with it.
He leans his head back against the tree and closes his eyes, taking a small nap while waiting for the sun to raise so he can hunt that damn deer he has been following all day.

Charlie, Kailee, Melanie and Jenna have settled down well in Eva's home. Charlie even helped get rid of the two men that killed her mother and helped Eva bury her by her flower garden.
Seeing as how there are five of them now, it doesn't hurt to keep up on food and cold medicine doesn't help the infection in her left hand and Melanie's leg. So Charlie decided to help Eva go out and get more food, medicine and hopefully some weapons.
Eva and Charlie are on their sixth house of the day and it by far is the most promising. After killing the dead man they start searching his house and this man had to be a hunter or some crazy nut… but with what is happening, I guess a smart nut.
He had a lot of food that won't go bad for a while and a lot of medicine, water jugs and bottles in boxes and bags all over his living room. It seemed like he raided a store and a pharmacy before he got bit. But the best part is the knives and guns and ammo the man had collected.
They start packing all the stuff by the front door so they can load up the truck faster. While going through one of the closets Eva finds a hard plastic case and when she opens it she actually laughs aloud.
A beautiful dark blue re-curve bow with several arrows lay before her and the sight of it brings back many happy memories. "You know how to shoot that thing?" Charlie asks her as she runs her fingers over the disassembled bow.
"Yeah, my grandpa loved to hunt, he took me whenever he could. I couldn't get past killing Bambi or Thumper but I went anyway. With some practice, I'll be good as new." She tells him as she closes the lid and carries it to the front door with another full bag of stuff.
"We need to leave." She yells to Charlie who is somewhere in the back. He runs down the hall and stands next to her and stares out the window to see what the problem is.
Across the street and four houses down the house has caught fire and all that smoke is sure to attract the dead. They make one more round of the house before she gets the truck and backs it up so the bed is close to the door. While Charlie brings out the first box, she opens the beds cover and goes inside to get another box.
They do this back and forth while keeping an eye on some of the dead that are coming down the road. After packing up everything and only having to kill three dead people, they close the bed cover and hop into the truck and she starts driving.
She starts driving by the house that is on fire and she slams on the breaks when she sees two people banging on the window. She looks over at Charlie and he nods his head before jumping out of the truck, Eva following close behind.
"MOVE AWAY!" She yells while motioning for the man and woman to move to the side and when they do she pulls her gun out and shoots the window. They all start breaking the glass so they can get them out.
After getting them out, she and Charlie help them into the back seats of the truck. Charlie starts driving back home while Eva sits in the passenger seat but she is turned around so she can see the new people.
She hands the older woman a water bottle after she stops coughing. "Thank you so much, I don't how… thank you." She said before taking a drink of the water before handing it over to the man.
"My name is Eva and this is Charlie." She tells them before handing them another water bottle after they drink the rest of the other bottle. "I'm Abigail and this is my son Cody. Are you taking us to a safe zone like they said on the radio?" She asked before coughing again.
Eva looks to Charlie who looks back at her before looking back to the road. "I'm sorry to say but there is no safe zone's anymore, Atlanta's gone and the FEMA shelters here are over run... but my house is safe for right now." She tells them and after a few minutes of talking they pull up to Eva's house.
After introducing them to everyone and bandaging their cuts and minor burns, Eva and Jenna make dinner for everyone and they sit down at the table and they talk.
They explain stuff further to Abigail and Cody who have been shut out from the rest of the world for over two weeks now. They talk about what they should do in the next few days and when everyone starts to get tired Eva shows Abigail and Cody where they can go to sleep and tell them that they will talk more tomorrow.

"He'd better be ok. It's my only word on the matter." Daryl said shaking his head and glaring at T-dog who is sitting across from him behind Glenn who is driving the cube van into Atlanta.
"I told you the geeks can't get him. The only thing getting through the door is us." T-dog replies still feeling a bit guilty about dropping the key.
"We walk from here." Glenn said after shutting off the van and they all jump out and start making their way to the building where they left Merle and after that they will get the guns that Rick dropped when he first came into the city.
