From the dark wooden railings of Fairytail's second level, Mavis Vermillion, a Kiddish looking girl with beautiful lengthy golden hair sat with her little feet dangling over the guild. Her eyes, a bluish green sparkled ever so proudly of her descendants. As you looked at her, you could tell that she was more than a blissfully innocent child. She came from centuries ago, to reappear recently. She wore a smaller version of her pink dress, without her white collared long-sleeved shirt underneath. Instead, she had a red jacket over it that draped up to above her waist. In her hair, her iconic winged hairband resided as always.

The air smelled of pure chaos, if it were even possible, yet she couldn't tell why something seemed to be missing. She racked her brain, desperately trying to place her finger on it. She sighed, almost ready to give up on this puzzle before she recalled a half empty table that was normally occupied by team Natsu.

"Peculiar indeed," She thought aloud. "I wonder where he is." Upon further inspection, you could clearly notice the missing headstrong and mouthy little dragonslayer. Normally, he could be seen chatting with his blonde friend, Lucy, or clashing foreheads with Gray Fullbuster. Instead, the vacant seat would only serve to bother the pint-sized guild master beyond what she knew should've been appropriate for such a 'cool-headed tactician.'

"He's probably in the restroom, or on a mission. Or anywhere else that coincidentally isn't here! Why do I care all of the sudden?" Mavis looked away, and hadn't noticed Makarov was sprawled onto the rail like it was a bed, next to her. The tiny old man was pretty easy to miss, but then again, who was she to talk?

"If you're talking about Natsu, then he won't be back at the guild for a few days." He stared face-up at the ceiling, playing with his hat bells. Mavis resisted the urge to laugh; Makarov had unknowingly just resembled a little kid bored-out-of-his-mind. Or maybe he did know, but didn't care. Thus, she didn't care anymore either. She sighed; the urge to over-think was always too irresistible.

Fitting the antics into her mental file-cabinet, "So he's on a mission? Er… How did you know I was talking about him?" she replied. The question had potential embarrassment on it but Makarov let her off easy. His frown had changed into a small grin from beneath his silver mustache; the first could be unbelievably cute sometimes.

"People tend to notice when the knucklehead is out. I'm just surprised it only took you a day before it plagued your mind. But, then again, you weren't here yesterday," A mischievous expression replaced his current one. "Hu Hu, looks like someone's got an eye for little ole' Natsuuu." He patted her arm playfully.

"No… He's been holed up in his house since yesterday. It's got something to do with her too." He pointed to the blonde that was currently engaged in an argument with Gray about the consequences of Public nudity. That shocked Mavis, confusion evident on her face. Again that day, her mind was thrown for a loop.

"What? What does that mean?" She asked, scratching her head. Makarov sighed,

"Hell if I know. It either means she's really annoying or he finally tried to make a move. Either way, it's had a bit of a negative impact on him." He twirled the little bronze bell in his hand, jingling it around. His indifference irked her, a tiny amount of malice overtaking her compassionate demeanor.

"Has anyone gone over to cheer him up? Are you the only one that knows this?" Makarov sported a serious look for a few seconds, deep in thought, and then proceeded to pick his nose unimpressively. He seriously didn't know what the problem was, it wasn't like Natsu was dying… Knowing the guy he treated as a grandson, he assumed it was a tiny hurdle that he would get over soon.

"Yeah, only I know, and Lucy herself. I figured he needed to be alone. He'll be fine with a little bit of seclusion and lonesome!" He smirked reassuringly, and then noticed Mavis's expression change; he suddenly grew silent, sweating bullets. He slowly squared up into a sitting position, figuring that he had just triggered the evil within Mavis. Every now and then, she would tap into it when he had tapped into his own stupidity, and perversion.

"I'm ashamed of you!" She shouted, kicking him square in the ass surprising herself how much power she had. He soared majestically, face first into the guild wall before leisurely sliding down. All commotion in the guild ceased like careful clockwork, every member spectating in slow-motion as Makarov slid down the wall on his face before landing in Erza's cheesecake. The cream splashed around, erupting in Erza's face and onto a shocked Gray and Lucy.

The darkness of Erza's eyes betrayed any guilt for what she would do to the fifth guild master now. She finally realized who it was, but it was too late now. "I can't con-control my actions.. I-I'm Sorry! Please forgive- … Me." Erza's fist upper-cutted Makarov through the table. He was bounced against the wooden ceiling rafters with a sharp CRACK and near-launched down snapping the table in half, wood and splinters showering his pitiful form on the ground. Face-down, he groaned through a mouthful of wood chips.

"Wath dat weally ness ah cewwy?" Everybody turned to Mavis, fear for their lives showing through their shivering bodies. Her eyes had converted into that of a demon's. She shook her head around, the look from her eyes disappearing. She threw out a tiny huff, "You deserved it." She half rushed down the stairs, ignoring everybody's dreadful stares. It was near impossible for them to to laugh as she brought to mind a very young toddler like a 12-year old anxious to escape the scene of a broken pottery.

"And you deserve it more than him.." She seethed soundlessly on her rage out of the door. The last of her wavy golden hair swept past the door frame, and the guild erupted into conversation about what had Mavis so heated. All sorts of conclusions sprang from every reach of the guild hall, each more ridiculous than the last.

Across the guild, Gajeel and Wendy both looked up from their meal, or conversation, wide-eyed. There wasn't always something exciting happening at this guild unless you counted fighting, drinking, pranking, betting, inadvertent enchanting, Entertainment, and combustion; but Mavis, the gentle little flower with a grudge? That was a phenomenon. Wendy had to get to the bottom of this!

The sun, a ball of golden light hovered idly on the horizon, its light skirting in-between clouds with golden-orange wisps. The persistent annoyance shot into Mavis's eyes, and she shielded them in brief confusion. The day had passed quicker than she was aware of, the sun already beginning to sink below its cloudy company. She wasn't particularly happy, feeling as if a fracture had ripped through the guild. Yet, if it were a big fracture, like the missing Natsu, then why did everyone just ignore it? Perhaps she was overthinking things, or she was fixed on a one-track mindset.

Natsu was absent, yet no-one investigated his whereabouts? How would she know, it's not like she's ever felt such a compelling force in her heart before. The potency of this matter itself had a much bigger weight than her normal motherly protectiveness of the guild and its members. She floated on, her toes gliding over the sunbaked cobblestone pavement. She glanced left and right every now and then, marveling at some of Magnolias' distinct architecture. "Where am I headed?" She thought aloud.

She wondered further, the citizens of Magnolia slowly disappearing into their homes for the afternoon. She sighed long, stopping in place, "This is going to be a problem. Maybe there's some-one around who can help?" As if the answer was waiting for the queue, on the opposite side of the road, Natsu's exceed companion had emerged from the woods, a burlap bag carried in his arms.

Mavis approached him, "Hey, do you know where Natsu lives? I want to see him."

He appeared to be trifling through the bag when his big eyes popped up in surprise. "The First!? What're you doing here!?" He flew closer, uncomfortably close to her face… The stench of fish filled her nose, oddly enough; she was starting to feel hunger tugging lightly at her stomach. She didn't really like fish, but she could easily tolerate it on an empty stomach, via her current situation.

She floated back a pace, "I'm looking for Natsu… Do you live with him? Happy, right?" She asked, tapping her fingers together, somehow feeling embarrassed. She almost didn't remember the exceed's name, and a voice nagged at herself inside of her head. Happy's eyes shifted to the ground, "Natsu isn't doing too well right now. I'm getting us some fish for dinner," He looked up, a smile forming onto his face. "You're welcome to join us if you want! It might cheer him up!" He added excitingly.

Mavis giggled, who wouldn't be cheerful with a little cat like this hanging around? Wouldn't he get annoying with his really high-pitched voice, though? But then she remembered why she was coming in the first place. Well… She had absolutely no idea what she was doing, anymore. It was easy to lose track of your intentions when they were running off of pure emotion. She fidgeted, and then smiled back, coming to a conclusion.

"I'd love to have dinner with you both." Happy's surprise stretched further across his face, a grin the size of a sliced watermelon. "Great! I was just counting the fish I had caught. It looks like we have enough for all three of us! Wait.. Do you even eat?" He scratched his head.

It was a good question, she admitted. Yet, even if she were a spirit, she enjoyed eating too.

(I am very rusty of Fairytail, and Mavis's ghostly properties. I'm sorry if I don't get it all correct, I'll try anyways :I)

Mavis followed Happy through the darkening forest, him relaying funny stories every now and then about his misadventures with Natsu. She had learned quite a bit about the Dragonslayer through these five minutes. Her mind had eased into a content relaxation, a burst of light broadening from the bottom to the top of her imagination like a cracked open door. The image only lasted a second, but she knew she would pursue and explore it later. She wanted to meet Natsu, be in his company. She tried to envisage her having a conversation with the dragonslayer. If it lived up to her expectation, then she wouldn't mess it up by saying something weird.

The thought of his face had her burning at the heart. What was she thinking?! She shook it off, distantly aware of her anomalous growing love for the Dragonslayer. The two edged closer to a pitiful-looking shack. Mavis had a tiny glow around her form, shimmering in the dark. Happy threw the door open, almost making Mavis jump out of her skin in shock.

"Welcome to the Palace!" He bellowed aloud without any bounds to volume control, or interest in Mavis's eardrums. She almost smacked him into a wall, but caught a glimpse of Natsu spread-eagled on an armchair, clad in Dragon printed boxers. A snot bubble rose and fell with his large snores to further add to his impressive portrayal. She stifled a girlish giggle, and retreated behind the exceed.

Natsu cracked an eye open, pitifully groaning, "Happy, is that you?" He yawned, as Happy began digging through the bag. "Yup! I brought Fish, too!" he replied energetically. Mavis remembered her recent theory that his voice would wear out its welcome and surprise, surprise…

"Here, I got your favorite!" He tossed a yellow-striped fish across the room. Surprisingly, Natsu leapt off the armchair with grace and caught the fish in his mouth. "Also, we have a visitor!" Happy flew aside, swinging the bag away as if it were a curtain, thus spilling all of the fish onto the ground. Natsu pouted for a second, but turned to the doorway in amazement.

"The First!" He shouted falling backwards off the armchair. He sprinted into a tiny hallway, coming back with a pair of shorts on. "What are you doing here?" He approached, Mavis's heart almost leaping out of her chest. She didn't know what to say, but stood there awkwardly. "I, uh- came here to check up on you! I heard you weren't doing too well from Makarov. And I didn't notice you at the guild…" She admired his hospitality, "You can just call me Mavis." She smiled gingerly.

Natsu dropped backwards onto his chair again, a piece of torn up junk now that Mavis examined it. He beamed up at her, "Well thanks! Have a seat." He pointed to the couch opposite of his coffee table that seemed to be in a slightly better condition with only a hole on the left side. She began to mollify of her emotion, wondering why she had panicked in the first place. She couldn't help but return his smile with her own.
"So, are you feeling any better?" His eyes traveled elsewhere, a flash of pity stinging at them.

He shook his head silently, his happiness all but dispersing into the air. She felt bad for him, regretting her question. She inwardly protested the next one, but decided to ask anyways.

"May I ask what happened to make you like this?" She floated onto the couch, bringing her hands together sheepishly. He nodded, sighing in the process. As he began to tell his somber story, she swept her hair to the side to avoid sitting on it. She almost branched out onto a whole other mental adventure about her hair when she snapped back to reality by his pained voice. Happy settled down next to her, this wasn't exactly what he had in mind for cheering up his friend, but he'd keep silent.

Flashback- three days ago-

It was a tranquil night, the moon smiling down on the port town of Magnolia. Natsu plodded alongside the rest of his sore teammates from another restless mission completed. He could still feel the pain from being thrown into a wall by an above average enemy. Watching Lucy from the corner of his eye, he imagined her smile when he would ask her to go on a hike *Date* with him tomorrow. His mind overflowed with nothing but confidence about it, actually.

He had heard the word countless times from Lucy, and wondered if she had ever practiced It with another before. He found the definition of it from a very bubbly Mira, and believed it was about time he tried a "date" with Lucy, who looked very beautiful tonight with her hair completely let down to ripple in the small breeze. He found himself thinking about her face everywhere he went lately, and decided it was a sign of inevitable maturity. He would step up to the plate (Before that Ice-Queen) and "Date" Lucy.

He hadn't really comprehended what he felt for the celestial mage, but he knew there was something there. She was his first choice for going on a date with. 'Is that enough?' He thought. His sight moved on to Gray who seemed to be caught up in his own thoughts. He looked ready to speak, for some reason. Natsu shrugged it off, returning to the tranquil road ahead of him.

A few moments passed when Gray opened his mouth to say something. "Hey, Lucy." Like an explosion, the team's attention was snapped over to Gray, who seemed to have broken a light sweat. He outwardly sighed slowly, Lucy turning towards him, a light amount of confusion dabbed at her face.

"… Are you doing anything tomorrow?" Gray asked aloud. She visibly thought about it, and then shook her head, "No, what's up?" Gray turned to her through the dark, "I was wondering if you'd like to go get coffee with me at {any coffee shop name}?"(Yeah, that's right... I don't know any other place or creative name to come up with, so use that thing in your head called Imagination :D)

Natsu's mood silently blew into sullen fractions. He trembled in the cold as Lucy accepted Gray's invitation with a tiny amount of giddy hesitation. The ground in front of him wavered in a wet blur. Erza slapped Natsu on the back roughly with her iron gauntlet, knocking the tears out of his eyes and onto the ground in front of him. "Good for them, eh?" She turned to him before he pushed off her arm, a warm tear rolling down his jaw.

Anger showered down over his confidence, impaling his heart full of holes. It was left in a wretched puddle of blood, and confusion.

'I thought… I was more to her than everyone else…' All the misplaced actions, from sleeping in the same bed to comforting her through rough patches were all lies? He dragged his feet away from the group, worry written over their faces. His back rose and fell as he tried to hide his agony from them. He slipped away and disappeared into the murk of an obscure forest.

Lucy tried to call out to the dark wall, but nothing replied. Moments of calling out passed and they reluctantly pulled away, continuing down the road in a shroud of bitter-sweet.

Oddly enough, the most concerned for him had been the Titania, rarely giving into a "weak" feeling.

We're Back!-

Mavis scowled, "I thought at least Erza would have come to see you! There are heads to be cracked when I get back," She grinded her teeth angrily. Natsu chuckled, looking at Mavis's cute expression. He sighed, "yeah- I'm sorry I wasn't there today or yesterday. I'll try to come tomorrow but I just can't bring myself to look at her face after what happened." He stared over her at the wall. He had spilled his thoughts onto the first guild master of Fairytail, knowing inside that it was a seldom action for him. Happy had nodded off during the story, using Mavis's lap as a pillow.

A thought popped into his mind, and he smiled roguishly, "Hey, Mavis, you wanna draw on his face while he's still asleep?" Mavis smiled back, trying to remember the last time someone had entered her in on a joke. She was more avoided in the guild which left her rather forlorn at most times. There was always Natsu though, joyously greeting her upon his daily entrance to the guild.

The thought of some fun hooked her, and she nodded as to not wake the sleeping exceed. Natsu disappeared like a ninja, more silent than she's ever seen him, and he returned across from her with a handful of assorted color markers. Mavis grabbed a red one, and Natsu discarded the rest pulling up a black one.

Like a true tactician, Mavis thought deeply about what she'd put. Natsu Whispered, "If you don't know, then just start with some facial hair." Mavis nodded, her tongue slightly hung out of her mouth as she concentrated deeply on her drawing. Natsu hastily, but gently scribbled on half of a mustache, and Mavis adapted to it by drawing one with a large curl.

She moved to his forehead, thickening his eyebrows and connecting them into a unibrow. The two giggled like little children as they added particularly vulgar bits here and there. Mavis gently leaned him onto the cushion next to her and the two stepped back to marvel at their work.

Happy's face looked like a comic, and they knew their work was done. Mavis simpered with Natsu, both proud of their work. "That was fun," Natsu retreated to the kitchen area. "We'll have to do it again sometime." He added, leaning against the counter.

"Ah, that was the most fun I've had in a while…" She followed him in.

He raised an eyebrow, "Really? How much… Do you have fun?" He questioned her, and she looked down. He now felt a little concerned for her. For the first time, he began to wonder about Mavis Vermillion, an otherwise translucent being to him.

She shrugged, frowning, "I really only talk to Makarov.. But that gets boring… Other than that, I like to go watch trees on a windy day sometimes." She began to question herself. She hadn't really thought about it before, but she started to see the wall of her life breaking away right in front of her.

"It sounds like you need a bit of fun, Fir- Mavis!" He pumped his fist. In the living room, Happy rolled over, his eyes jumping open. "Wuh-who?" They floated back down, a single word escaping his lips.

"Fish." He grumbled and curled up against the back of the couch. Natsu and Mavis resumed, "Fun? What are we talking about, writing on other people's faces?" She got closer, mesmerized by the visualization of a grand face-writing heist.

Natsu chuckled, "No- I'm talking about a 'date'!" He near shouted. Mavis's face suddenly burned, and she stuck a finger in her ear in an attempt to clean whatever was twisting her sound. "What'd you say? I must have not heard right?" Natsu grabbed her hand, and pulled it to his chest, "A date! You know, like the two of us can spend a day together having fun!" He honestly didn't know why his face was burning, but he kept talking despite.

She fidgeted her heart racing. She was aware that her face was redder than hell's flame, but she refused to look away. "If that's okay with you?" She breathed out, closing her eyes in bliss. Natsu nodded like a fiend, exultant that she accepted his offer. She opened her eyes, catching his gaze underneath the light on the ceiling. Something flashed in his eyes, and the two slowly attracted until they close.

Mavis forgot her status as master, the fact that Natsu was centuries younger than her, that she wasn't experienced at this, and that what happened now could be the end of her normal life. She wanted to make this decision and knew deep down that she wanted something like this for a long time.

She pressed her small hands onto his warm chest and elevated on her tip-toes so that his breath tickled her forehead. She softly whimpered and he submitted with a chuckle. Leaning down slightly, their lips were about to meet, when a loud voice shouted from the kitchen doorway, "Natsu Liiiiiiiiiiikes Mavis- Mavis Liiiiiiiiiiikes Natsu!"

The two jumped back, anger replacing their expressions. Natsu shot fourth like a fiery cannon, kicking Happy down the hall and skillfully into the Exceed's bed. The poor cat had been knocked unconscious, and fell into another immediate slumber; A giant shoe-print added to the scribe painting his face.

"Sheesh… I-uh… Guess I'll head back to the guild, then…" Mavis started sauntering toward the door, embarrassment overcoming her. Natsu

Natsu scowled, "No way! You can stay here the night," He opened a door next to the hallway to a surprisingly neat closet and pulled out a brown fuzzy blanket, and a big white pillow. She couldn't help but feel so loved by his running back and forth treating her like the most high-valued guest of all-time.

She hadn't realized it, but she could feel a few tears rolling down her cheeks through an undeniably gleeful grin. "Thank you… So much, Natsu." She was plummeting into a cavern of love with every heated breath she took. Natsu noticed her crying and rushed over dropping a tooth brush and toothpaste.

"For… What? Are you ok?" She nodded as he wiped her tears away with his thumb, "I've never been loved like this before." She leaned her head against his chest, her golden hair brushing against their ankles. He patted her back gently lifting her off the ground like a tuckered-out child.

"You can have my room," He laid her down, not know what to do next. She looked angelic; her hair branched out like a river delta over the sheets on his bed. "Tomorrow, we'll meet at the guild at noon for that date, alright?" She nodded tiredly. He turned off the light and made for the doorway when she spoke softly, "It's still cold… Without you." He nearly caught aflame when he turned around with a small smile.

Natsu obeyed happily, and slipped under the covers next to her and they gazed into each-other's eyes for what seemed like an eternity. They were connecting with each-other, understanding one and another's motives and love. They silently understood that either of them weren't destined for anyone other than them.

Natsu's hands crept up, removing her winged hairband and placing them behind him on his night table. Mavis gave one last sleepy smile before she snuggled closer, kissing his lips delicately while wrapping her arms around his body. This was how they were meant, she was snug, and he was happy to protect her from whatever would harm her fragile heart. He would show her the time of her life tomorrow, for all that existed to him at the moment was Mavis Vermillion, his pearl blocking out the world around him.
