A/n: Hey. To all of my existing followers, I'm sorry that I haven't updated my other story in forever. I came out with this one shot and I will be updating "Hunting Demigods" soon. Anyway, hope you like this ;D
Zac's POV:
I was excited.
I was excited for several reasons. First, it was Saturday. That meant I had no classes today (thank god). College had been incredibly demanding, especially now that I was a sophomore. It wasn't enough that it was quickly depleting my supply of money resulting in either mac-n-cheese or ramen noodles for dinner almost every night, but it was also keeping me up at ungodly hours trying to finish some damn ten page reports.
But that's beside the point.
I was also excited because I was on my way to the apartment of the girl I've liked since I was eighteen: Reyna.
She was gorgeous. She had black hair that reached all the way down to her hips. She had eyes that were equally as dark, and tan latina skin. She was so regal and she had this aura of confidence that made everyone weary of her.
We were both studying to be lawyers. She was the best in class and therefore much smarter than me. That's what had initiated this date. Well it wasn't exactly a date per se. She was tutoring me. We had been given an assignment that was damn near impossible and when I made a comment about not understanding jack and BAM! She offers to help me.
I looked down at my phone where I had her address written down and back up to the building in front of me. Yup. This was the place.
After an annoyingly long elevator up to the twentieth floor and five minutes wasted on trying to find her actual apartment, I was finally able to knock on her door.
A few moments later, the door opened to reveal Reyna. Her hair had been tied back in a messy braid trailing down her back. She was wearing a purple tank top that did wonders for her figure. Her incredibly short purple flannel pajama shorts were also not helping my concentration.
What worried me was the annoyed and slightly pissed off look she was giving me.
"Hi Reyna," I said nervously, because the truth was, she was intimidating. Most of the student body was scared shitless of her and a lot of people thought she was a bitch due to her tendency of being super blunt and painstakingly honest.
"Zac," she greeted. "You realize you're an hour early right?" I looked at my watch. She was right. I was an hour early.
"Oh. I'm so sorry. I'll come back later," I said. Reyna sighed.
"No. You're already here. Just come inside." She opened the door wider to let me in.
I stepped into the apartment and looked around. It was very neat and also very modern. The main colors were black and white. There were few pictures in it and also little color.
"Sit," Reyna said, and I immediately obeyed and sat on one of the couches next to a tall plant. "Do you want anything to eat or drink?" she asked stiffly. I could tell she wasn't purposely trying to make this situation awkward. She just wasn't exactly a social butterfly.
"Just water please," I answered. Just then, a guy walked into the room.
The guy was about my height and my age. He was handsome, with pale skin and dark, longish hair. His eyes were blacker than Reyna's, and his whole demeanor was ominous, dangerous, and quite frankly, frightening. He was wearing a black skull muscle tee and black jeans paired with black combat boots. On his finger was a skull ring with glittering ruby eyes. I could tell he was muscular, despite his thin and lean frame.
He walked right passed Reyna and me and into the kitchen before doubling back and looking me up and down with a confused look.
"Uhh...Reyna?" he asked. "Who's your friend?" I detected a hint of an Italian accent in his voice. I immediately felt a rush of jealousy. Reyna had a guy in her apartment. A good looking guy who could probably kick my ass.
I forced a smile and stood and held out my hand. "I'm Zac. Reyna's tutoring me." His eyes flickered down to my hand and then back to my face. He nodded slowly but didn't take my hand.
"I'm Nico, Reyna's roommate," he said before stalking back into the kitchen.
"He's friendly," I muttered under my breath.
Reyna, who had been watching my interaction with Nico curiously, finally spoke. "You'll have to excuse Nico. He's less of a 'people person' than I am." She said it with that same harsh and professional tone she always uses. I nodded.
"S'fine," I said. Nico reappeared with a thermos filled with what I would guess by the smell, coffee. He grabbed keys that were in a bowl on a table along with other small things. Earrings, pennies, USBs, more keys…
"Where are you going?" Reyna asked. Nico looked up.
"I'm going out with Percy," he responded. Reyna gave him a quizzical look. Nico stared at her intensely for a second, as if he was deciding on something, and then let out a breath. "I promised him I wouldn't say anything." Reyna went wide-eyed and stood up.
"What? What's Percy planning on doing? Nico you have to tell me. You can't back out of this now, you already brought it up!" She had walked up to Nico and grabbed his shoulders. Nico sighed.
"Fine. Fine I'll tell you," Nico said. Reyna did something completely unimaginable. She giggled. Reina never giggles. I guess only her boyfriend can bring out that side of her. "The idiot told me he wants to propose to Annabeth," he said. Reyna stared at him with a shocked expression before breaking into the biggest smile.
"He's finally gonna muster up the courage to pop the question?" she asked. Nico nodded while cracking a small, yet enthusiastic smile.
"I'm helping him pick out a ring today. He said he wanted me to be his best man." Reyna hugged Nico tightly while he gave a small chuckle.
"Pick a good ring," Reyna told him before he walked out the door.
The rest of the time was spent as innocently as possible. I didn't try to flirt with Reyna or come on to her or anything. They were strictly working on class work. At one point, he decided to ask her about her "roommate".
"So, you live with Nico," he said. Reyna paused and looked at him.
"Yeah..." she said slowly.
"So are you guys...are you guys like, together?"
"Me and Nico?"
I nodded. She stared for a few seconds before bursting out laughing. "I-I'm sorry. I'm sorry," she said as she tried composing herself. When she was able to keep a straight face again, she looked me in the eye and began speaking.
"Nico and I will never be romantically involved. I don't see him that way, and he doesn't see me that way. I love Nico. There's no denying that. But he's like the brother I never had. Plus, it'd be impossible for him to think of me as someone he could have a romantic relationship with. Or even just a relationship as fuck buddies."
"Why not?" I asked.
"Well Nico's-" Reyna was cut off by the door opening. Nico came in with a blond guy around the same age as me.
The guy was a little taller than me and had a mop of golden hair on his head. His smile was bright and his skin had a perfect tan. He wore a yellow tank top and red swim shorts complete with flip flops.
Him and Nico were laughing and the guy's laugh was...melodic. "Hey Reyna," he said when he spotted us. "Hey person I don't know," he waved at me. I smiled tentatively and gave a small wave back.
"This is Will," Reyna said. "Will, this is Zac."
Will grinned a genuine smile. "Nice to meet you. I'm gonna get a beer. Anyone want one?" he asked. Nico raised his hand. "Ok. I'll be in the kitchen." With that, he gave Nico a...peck on the lips? What? I'm so confused right now.
My mouth hung open as I stared at Nico and at Will's retreating figure. "What?" Nico said to me.
"N-nothing. It's just, I didn't expect you to be...um-"
"Gay?" Nico offered. I shrugged and nodded. He rolled his eyes and muttered "whatever" under his breath while taking a chip from the bowl next to Reyna's study notes and ate it. Reyna had an amused expression as she watched silently.
"So this is what you meant when you said..." I started. She nodded. Will returned with the two bottles and handed one to Nico.
"What's he talking about?" Nico asked Reyna while taking a sip of his beer.
"Zac thought we were sleeping together," Reyna said. Nico began choking on his beer and coughing while Will simply lost it and began to laugh. Nico started to violently shake his head while continuing to suffocate.
"Trust me. Nico's not into girls," Will explained in between fits of laughter.
"Ok so tell me, how'd your day with Percy go?" Reyna asked after everyone had calmed down.
"We found the perfect one," Nico answered.
"Perfect what?" Will asked.
"I'm not telling."
"What? Why not?" Will asked his boyfriend. "Reyna?" he said, looking hopeful.
"My lips are sealed," she told them.
"C'mon Nico. Tell me!"
"You're gonna have to find out on your own Will." Nico began walking down the hall to where I presume was his room with Will following and pestering him about the secret.
What a strange group of people.
