The Only Disclaimer In This Story: Fairy Tail belongs to Hiro Mashima - not me!

I had to put a preview of this story up (even though I haven't finished writing my other two)! Sometimes I just can't remeber my good ideas after a few hours or so. Also, future chapters will be longer! Enjoy!

It was burning. All the houses were on fire and the thatch rooftops were alight as well.

On the other side of town, a short, red haired girl hid a younger, black haired girl in an inconspicuous, damaged, wet reed box.

The screams of children and adults alike came from everywhere, and the group of people dressed in black and decked in masks were relentless in their killing and capturing.

"Momma… Where are we goin?" A little child, clothes burnt on the edges and blonde hair dirtied with soot and ashes, clutched the hand of a taller blonde woman.

The two scurried in the shadows of the burning buildings and chaotic streets.

Nowhere was completely safe from the prying eyes of the bad people and their greedy hands.

Time passed and the little girl's short feet grew sore and tired from walking. She wasn't wearing any shoes. Nervously, the woman scanned the dark street left and right before she ducked into an alley with the child.

A small metal basket lined with animal skins on the inside leaned against the stone wall of a building and the woman stopped there.

"Momma?" The girl rubbed her eyes and yawned.

The older woman – Momma – smiled weirdly, almost sadly, the little girl thought as she was placed into the warm basket. "Hush now."

With a jangle, a ring of keys was dropped into the little girl's chubby, awaiting hands.

"Take care of them." Something wet dropped onto the child's head and the woman shut the lid of the basket. "Remember, I'll always love you."

"Momma! Momma!" There was no response from the woman or anyone else. A loud, thud of a sound echoed in the air and there was a shrill, piercing, dying shriek of a woman before all was still.

She'll be safe in there. Oh, how wrong the dead woman was.
