A/N: Who would have thought I'd write this story! By popular demand, I decided to write the one shot of Shake it Off: Nurse Gajeel and Teacher Levy AU into a multi-chapter series. Since the response to the story was a huge hit, I had so many ideas floating in my head and those ideas somehow manage to create a genuine modern AU storyline with my favorite Fairy Tail OTP; Gajevy.

Written for Gajevy Fest 2015, I give you a new Gajevy series: The Waiting Room.

Chapter One: Shake it Off

"I should have called him." Levy was fidgeting with the bag in her hands, thinking out loud in an empty elevator. Images of her wild spring break interrupted her logical thinking. She needed to put her week of fun and passion aside and move on. Levy was a high school English teacher. She needed to act like one and not like her moronic impulsive high schoolers. Not like she was one when she was the same age as her students.

"I'm not too far from Magnolia." She remembered his parting words. "Whenever you wanna-I don't know-go out. Give me a call."

Levy remembered his touch; both rough and soft. The hardness and unreadable face, the kindness of his eyes, his smoldering smirk. His low and deep voice, coarse and resolute; angelically haunting when he sang. It stirred something deep within Levy. Never would she dreamed of being attracted to such a man. A stubborn moron with a surprisingly passionate and kind heart.

"Levy?" Juvia beamed when Levy came out of the elevator. "What are you doing here?" The bluenette wasn't wearing her bikni or any beach wear. She was wearing navy nursing scrubs with a retractable ID badge with her name and picture on it. An orange stethoscope was wrapped around her neck. Her long blue hair was tied into a messy pony tail.

"Gray told me where you worked." Levy smiled, following her to the nurse's station. "Um, he told me to take the south east elevator and take it to the sixteenth floor." Juvia just looked at her, eying the bag in her hands. "Sorry," Levy cleared her throat. "I was wondering if you could give this to Gajeel. I wanted to give it back to him before we left, but I forgot."

That was a lie. She gave it back, but Gajeel told her to keep it.

"Well," Juvia smiled. "Why don't you give it yourself?"

"I could, but I don't want to intrude."

"Oh, you're not." Juvia pointed behind Levy. "He works here too."

Heat instantly flushed Levy's body. The feel of her heart beating hard against her chest, she was lucky to be at the hospital. Just in case if her heart decided to burst into flames.

"Shrimp?" Levy finally turned around, and Gajeel stood there in the same uniform as Juvia. And he wasn't alone; three other nurses were with him.

"Hey..." Levy said meekly. She could hear Juvia chuckle softly behind her.

"Rounds!" Gajeel ordered the nurses next to him. "Sera is ready for prep. Circ docs want her ready for the OR within the hour. Siobhan will be discharged today, make sure she ambulates at least twice before she does. Paper work has to go through Juvia before she's released. And Angie needs to ease off the dilaudid. Ambulate her if you can."

"You got it boss," The nurses were dismissed and Gajeel turned to Levy, awed by the person or stranger in front of her.

"What are yer doing here?" He gave his signature smile. The same smile that makes her weak at the knees.

"I actually-" Levy was trying to lie and tell him she was visiting Juvia, but she was so shocked to see him in a nursing uniform, long messy dark hair kept in a low ponytail, and someone in high authority that didn't require a microphone or a guitar. "A nurse?"

"Charge Nurse actually." Juvia added.

"Yeah, I'm a nurse." Gajeel grumbled. "Is that a problem?"

"No!" Levy exclaimed. "I thought you're a musician?"

"At night when we have gigs. This is my day job." Gajeel rubbed his neck. "Is that for me?" He pointed at the green shopping bag in her hands.

"Yeah," Levy fumbled with it.

"Gajeel." A nurse from earlier came up to them. "Anya doesn't want to take her injections without you."

"Oh yeah." Gajeel nodded. "I'll be right there." He handed Juvia a stack of discharge and new admissions papers. "Stay here. I won't be long. My shift will end after this patient."

"Okay," Levy was too dumbfounded to say anything else and simply nodded. He smiled and left the station. Juvia's eyes followed Gajeel and once he disappeared around the corner...

"Levy!" Juvia whispered. "Come with me."

"Where are you taking me?" Levy didn't really have a choice. Juvia grabbed her hand and forced her to follow. They stopped in front of a patient's room, and Juvia told her to stand against the wall. She pointed inside the room where Gajeel sat beside a long reclined bed with his back towards them. Beside him was a little girl with a purple bandana wrapped around her bald head.

"Anya," Gajeel said to the girl. "It's time for your medicine." Levy noticed her beautiful green eyes of the frail tiny girl.

"Is it time already?" She said weakly.

"Yep," Gajeel smiled, hold a series of caped syringes in his rubber gloved hands. The smell of bleach and rubber, plus menthol from a humidifier tickled her nose. "You ready?"

"Yeah," She shook, eying the needles in his hands. Levy watched as he uncapped each syringe and laid them on the bed next to her arm. The first syringe, he insert the tip of the needle to her IV tube, didn't push the medicine through.

"'Cause the players gonna, play, play, play-" Gajeel begun to sing, followed by the little girl. She cringed at the pain, but she tried to sing through it.

"That girl would cry so much when we give her injections." Juvia told her. "Gajeel came to the pediatric wing two months ago, and started to sing Taylor Swift songs to her help take the medicine a little easier. She no longer cries."

"Baby, I'm gonna shake, shake, shake, shake it off. I shake it off!" Levy watched and listened to them sing. She was in pain, but there was a smile on her pale face.

"One more," Gajeel said, uncapping the fourth needle and continued singing. "I shake it off..."

Last week, Levy listened to Gajeel sing for people's amusement. His strange raspy voice made women swoon at his band. Often times the people didn't like his voice, though that didn't matter as Levy became a big fan of it.

Now, Levy was listening to a different Gajeel. His voice was giving that little girl a sense of security and courage.

"Good job!" Gajeel cheered, throwing the needles away in the biohazard bin. The girl was smiling wide. "That's my Anya."

"Thank you," She chuckled. "Will you be here for my next one?"

"No but Mira will be." Gajeel said.

"Good!" She laughed. "She's a better singer."

"Hey, watch it girly!" Gajeel pointed at her playfully. "I have a date with a pretty gal later." Levy blushed, glancing over to a gleaming Juvia.

"You have a girlfriend?"

"Yeah, you think I can't have one?"

"Nope!"

"You are really something." Gajeel shook his head. "I'll see you tomorrow."

"Give her flowers and candy!" She told him. "Mommy likes it when Daddy gives her that."

"C'mon." Juvia pulled Levy away, so they wouldn't get caught.

"That's so adorable." Levy swooned, walking back to the nurse's station.

"He may not look like it but Gajeel has a way with kids." Juvia said to her. "He understands kids, but not women apparently."

"Good, you're still here." Gajeel joined them. "My shift is over. Maybe you wanna grab something to eat?"

"Um," Levy bit her lip and looked over to Juvia. "I have to-" She paused and looked at Gajeel; arms crossed and face unreadable like always. "Actually! Why not! I could eat."

"Alright." Gajeel's lips curled and turned to Juvia. "I'll see you tomorrow."

"Have fun." Juvia waved. "Great seeing you, Levy."

"You too." Levy waved back, and Levy followed him to the service elevator; the only one with employee access.

"That damn woman showed you Anya, didn't she?" Gajeel said once they boarded the elevator.

"What if she did?" Levy asked, tilting her head to the side to read his expression.

"Nothin'" Gajeel tsked, catching her stare. "It ain't important." The man she got to know over spring break returned and no Taylor Swift song or pop songs were coming out of him anytime soon.

"Do the other girls you dated before know about you singing Taylor Swift?" Levy asked him.

"What other girls? Gajeel shook his head. "I ain't Loki or Cana."

"You never dated anyone?"

"Seriously! What's up with all the questions?"

"Apparently, I don't know you as well as I thought." Levy laughed. "You could have told me that you're a nurse. Unless the title gets in the way of your rocker vibe."

"Oi! I'm damn proud of my job! And I don't have a rocker vibe." Gajeel sighed. "Yer the first who knows. Besides, no one else deserves the little free time I have to know what I do."

"Someone worth your time?" Levy laughed. "And who's that?"

It was like she returned to exactly a week ago. Gajeel pulled Levy in for a long awaited kiss. His fingers tangled in her hair, tilting her head up to his lips. Soft and delicious lips caressed perfectly against his own. It'd been a few days, but it felt like months since he last kissed her. Hints of antiseptic and rubber lingered with his cologne and Levy liked his newfound smell. It brought a new persona to the man she already liked, and the thought of forgetting him and her amazing vacation was pushed aside.

"You're still here, aren't ya?" Gajeel smirked in the way that made Levy weak at the knees. Levy remained speechless with her face bright red.

"I ain't a fancy guy." Gajeel straighten up. "Burgers sound good?"

"Perfect." Levy smiled and followed him out of the elevator.

A/N: This part was written as a one shot for Gajevy Fest 2015. Some of you may know from my Tumblr page that I am a Charge Nurse for Pediatrics at my hospital. I must warn you that future chapters will have real life occurrences, though I would not expose any patient information just in case that somehow someone at my work finds this story. The unlikeliness of that is very very small, but just in case. I will try make up some of the patients without jeopardizing my license. But regardless of the fiction, the true atmosphere and life of a nurse will be highlighted through and through.

As a request from my dear friend, Ashe aka Ironfairyashe, I will make a true nursing story that isn't ridiculed by Hollywood. Though, the nursing and teaching world isn't the center of this story. No! It's of course about our two favorite characters. Our favorite ship, Gajevy.

Please share, review, follow and favorite! I would greatly appreciate it!
