Alarms are blaring in my ears...humans in blue suits are coming after me...must accelerate momentum...can't let them take me back...won't let them make me kill...
I am Prototype Kill, I was designed and built for that purpose alone. I am genetically altered to not feel human emotions or needs. I do not get hungry or tired, my only purpose is to destroy and take the life of whoever I am told to. But that is why I ran, I do not wish to kill or destroy any living being...They said I had to follow their orders, that is what i was made for. They programmed me not to feel human emotions...they said that is why I am the perfect weapon...because I am not supposed to feel anything...But they are wrong, because I do...
Hiroshi Sato paced the destroyed lab in the lower levels of Future Industries. The middle aged company owner's lips were set into a thin line as he surveyed the damage quietly. He calmly turned the remaining staff; some scientists, a few doctors, a couple engineers, the cleaning crew, and some security guards.
"How the hell did this happen?!" He demanded. The outburst caused a couple of nearby scientists to flinch, but remain quiet with their eyes focused on the ground.
"You!" Hiroshi yelled jabbing a finger in the direction of the young physician and psychologist assigned to Prototype Kill.
"What happened here?" Hiroshi growled. The young woman blinked in confusion, probably because the company owner was there and saw what happened. Nevertheless, she straightened up and cleared her throat.
"I-I'm not sure, sir. She seemed fine this morning. Everything went as it usually did; routine matience, I tested her motor skills, the nurses checked Korra's vitals. Everything was fine...She may have been a bit uneasy with the method of training but-" The physician trailed off as she received a narrow-eyed glare from Hiroshi.
"What is a Korra?" He demanded. She blinked.
"Sir?...She's Prototype Kill, sir. Korra is the name I've been calling her." The physician answered quietly.
"You named my design?!" He bellowed. The physician did not even flinch.
"With all dear respect, sir, a fully enhanced cyborg that has been programmed to kill has escaped, and you're worried about me naming her?" The physician questioned with a raised eyebrow.
Hiroshi opened his mouth to say something, but the hiss from the doors to the lab opening cut him off. A woman wearing a pantsuit, followed by two men in black suits and sunglasses, entered the destroyed lab. The woman looked like she'd seen her fair share of hard battles. Her posture was ramrod straight, and her face stern. Her graying hair gave away her age, and the two twin scars on the right side of her face added to her stern look. She cleared her throat.
"Mr. Sato, I am Chief Beifong, with the Republic City police department. This is special agent Hansamu," Chief Beifong said as she gestured to one of the two men that came in with her. Hansamu looked rather young to be a special agent. His jet black hair was short on one side and long on the other. His face was long yet there were no flaws to be found.
"Please," He said as he took off his sunglasses' revealing enticing gray eyes behind long lashes.
"Call me Tahno." He instructed, his voice smooth and seductive, as he threw a wink at a couple of attractive female nurses. Beifong rolled her eyes and shook her head at his antics. Honestly, she had just met the young man twenty minutes prior and she could already tell that he was less than professional. The older man beside Tahno cleared his throat.
"You'll have to excuse my partner, he's still a rookie-"
"Hey!"
"I am special agent Akuma, but if you find it more comfortable, you may call me Unalaq. Now, what happened here?" Unalaq asked Hiroshi, ignoring his partner's protest. Hiroshi looked from Beifong to Unalaq to Tahno, and cleared his throat uneasily.
"You see, agents and chief...For the past ten months a team of highly trained technicians, engineers, scientists, and doctors have been working on a special design of mine. One I've been referring to as Prototype Kill." Hiroshi explained. Tahno frowned and crossed his arms over his chest.
"What were you building?" The young agent asked. When he and his partner received this assigment, Tahno didn't know what to think of it. A woman in her mid twenties with robotic parts practically destroying one of Future Industries' labs then fleeing? It sounded like something out of one of those action movies he loves. Hiroshi met Tahno's eyes evenly.
"They were building the world's first fully functioning cyborg. But the physician and my so called security detail let it escape!" Hiroshi hissed rounding on the young physician, who glared right back at him.
"Korra was under a lot of pressure and she was panicking. Thanks to the training exercise Mr. Sato was going to put her through. She did what any normal human being would do in that type of situation...she ran!" The physician spat heatedly at Hiroshi. Hiroshi pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration and anger.
"Prototype Kill is a machine programmed to kill, that is all!" Hiroshi countered, he had explained this to the physician long ago when they had first started engineering Korra. But the physician just would not listen to any amount of reasoning and the same could be said about the company's owner. At this, Chief Beifong raised a skeptical eyebrow.
"Ahem." Chief Beifong cleared her throat to get the two arguing adults' attention.
"If we could just find out what happened here." The chief urged impatiently once their attention was on her.
"Right, sorry ma'am." The young physician said, straightening up.
"I am Dr. Opal Adams, I was Korra's physician and psychiatrist...I was also present when Korra escaped." The young physician explained.
"Right, so what happened here?" Tahno asked. Opal cleared her throat and looked at all three of the officers.
"Just a few hours ago, Mr. Sato was putting Korra through training-"
"And Korra is the...robot?" Tahno asked, interrupting Opal. Opal tilted her head to the side and rolled her eyes in slight frustration.
"She's a cyborg. Anyway, when Korra entered this lab Mr. Sato brought in another one of his other patients and ordered Korra to terminate them. He said that he wanted to see what she was capable of." Opal said, earning an unprofessional glare from Hiroshi, which she ignored.
"No. My client, who is paying me a large sum to have Prototype Kill built and working properly, wanted to see what she was capable of." Hiroshi corrected. Unalaq looked up from the notes he was taking and raised his eyebrows.
"And who is this client?" Unalaq asked.
"General Iroh, he said that he liked my idea and wanted to use it as a "super weapon" for the military...obviously Korra still had a few kinks. Which was why we were testing her in the first place." Hiroshi said, speaking loudly and looking pointedly at Opal. He gestured to the nearly destroyed lab as if to show proof as well.
"You said you designed it to kill and you were also willing to test it out on another one of your patients? I don't know about you, Chief, but that sounds like enough evidence to bring him in for questioning." Tahno said, scratching his chin in a nonchalant manor.
"I agree. I'll have to bring them all in for questioning...this is going to be a long night..." Chief Beifong mumbled with a heavy sigh. Hiroshi looked surprised.
"But I told you! General Iroh paid me to do this!" Hiroshi protested.
"But you said he liked your design, which means you already designed a killing machine with intentions to use it. Mr. Sato you can come quietly or I can force you." Chief Beifong said, daring the man to test her. When he didn't do anything she cal u grabbed his arm.
"Good choice. Hansamu, Akuma, you handle the press and look for that cyborg. I'll send a squad car with you to help." Chief Beifong stated, leading Hiroshi to the exit.
"Actually, we have to report back to our superior." Unalaq spoke up.
"Both of you?" Beifong challenged. Unalaq faltered.
"Well, uh, no...I guess not." He mumbled defeatedly.
"Then one of you can stay behind and do all of the things I've told you." Beifong said, turning her back on them and leading Hiroshi out of the lab. Tahno came up to stand beside his partner.
"That woman is practically Vaatu." Unalaq grumbled. Tahno hummed in agreement.
"So...rock, paper, scissors to see who stays behind?" The younger man suggested with a smirk. He received a glare from his older partner.
It was sometime past midnight, the streets were empty and dark with the occasional passing car. Pouring rain fell down heavily on a lone figure that walked these empty streets. The street and traffic lights were the only source of illumination, the machine blinked the rain out of its eyes and looked up at the green glowing traffic light. It had been awhile since its eyes had seen anything other than the white walls of Future Industries' labs. Korra shook her head, she had been wandering around aimlessly for hours looking amazement and awe at everything she saw, she head to find a safe place to hide. Somewhere away from dangerous humans who would use her for their own personal gains. She frowned, and flexed her cybernetic hand. She wasn't just a machine. Only parts of her were mechanic, and the bleeding gunshot wound in her upper right thigh proved that fact. She grimaced, remembering why and how it got there. She could've easily taken that security guard out but she wouldn't. Korra sighed and limped out into the empty street, continuing on with her mission to get away from civilization. As she walked the organic parts of her brain thought back to a time that was somewhat fuzzy. But she remembered having to fend for herself out on the streets, no one kept her company except for a yellow lab puppy. She had to give her away though because she couldn't take care of the both of them. After that she spent cold nights sleeping on cardboard, and going days without a meal. And then she died...sort of. She got hit by a car and then woke up in a lab with robot parts. Korra swallowed and forced herself to stop thinking about those horrible times in her life. She was free now. Headlights suddenly clouded her vision and she felt an intense pain everywhere. As she started to black out, she couldn't help but think; not again...
"What did you do, Asami?!" A male's voice demanded. The loud sound woke the cyborg that had been lying unconscious, on his couch. A frustrated sigh was the response the male got.
"I glanced down to change the radio for a split second, I look back up and she comes out of nowhere!" A female voice spoke up, this voice was kind yet defensive. Korra poked an eye open to get a look at these new voices. A feeling of dread settled in her stomach as she noticed that they were humans. Every instinct in her told her to run and get away, but that was dangerous. She knew if she remained still that they wouldn't try to attack her, eventually they'd get bored and go away then she could escape. The female Asami, was squatting next to her. Her face was turned toward the male, who stood just a few paces away. His arms were folded over his chest and he had an angry scowl on his face. His amber eyes stayed glued to Asami's face, his black hair was quaffed up. He wore a loose gray crew neck and a red scarf around his neck. Asami had bright viridescent eyes, with wavy raven black hair that was tied up in a sloppy bun. Her face was flawless, aside from a few grease stains and splotches. Her clothes were not as fancy as her companion's. She wore a white tank top that showed just enough cleavage, her utility belt was strapped around her waist. The top half of her blue uniform was tied loosely underneath her belt, making the bottom half look baggy.
"Goddamnit, Asami! Why did you bring her here, why didn't you just take her to the damn hospital?" The male hissed. Asami rolled her eyes then shook her head at him.
"Bolin is a doctor; I figured he could fix her up. Besides, Mako, she's not human." Asami stated in a confident tone. Mako's brow furrowed.
"What the hell do you mean she's not human? She looks pretty human to me." Mako retorted.
"Just look," Asami trailed off as she started to lift the blanket off of Korra. The cyborg immediately went into panic mode. She leapt off the couch, the blanket and Asami tumbling to the floor as a result. Korra's eyes darted around the room looking for an exit, as she did so she backed into a corner in the small living room. Mako was looking at her like she…well like she was a cyborg.
"I'll be damned." He mumbled in astonishment. Asami slowly got to her feet, in order to not scare the girl anymore.
"It's okay, we're not going to hurt you." The pale skinned woman assured the cyborg. Her palms were up in a signature sign to show that she didn't have any weapons.
"I don't believe it…she's a goddamned robot!" Mako said. Korra cowered further into the corner, Asami glared at Mako
"Please," Korra spoke, her voice trembling.
"Don't take me back." She continued. Asami's eyebrows furrowed. Her eyes shone with concern.
"Take you back where?" Asami asked calmly, inching closer to Korra.
"Future Industries..." Korra answered, she looked so scared. The room went quiet, Mako and Asami exchanged dubious glances. Asami turned back to Korra.
"I promise you, we're not taking you back to Future Industries." Asami assured her. Korra looked at her and with her cybernetic eye, scanned Asami's pulse and temperature to see if she was lying or not. She wasn't. Now that it was safe Korra slid down the wall and wept.
