Chapter 3: Triangles Are Evil
5:42 A.M.
Miya gulped down yet another Mewnian energy drink, and pulled another all-nighter. The X-Files theme song was playing at full volume on the stereo. It was her work music. She hadn't gotten too much done on typing up theories based on the thick stack of note-cards sitting beside her containing observations. She low-key ran a conspiracy theory blog, and wrote about the world around her, to get a better understanding of it.
Part of the reason she hadn't gotten to far was the abundance of Code Purples in the past several weeks. Especially late at night. It seemed like it was a non-stop cycle of Code Purples, and they were never going to end.
Marco told her it's probably not too good of an idea for her to be pulling all these all-nighters, but she continued to do it anyways. She was still disappointed that his hoodie didn't have a black-hole in it.
Marco had his own long list of disappointments related to her, mainly concerning her growing closeness with Penn.
Miya, feeling guilty she hadn't worked on her conspiracies, decided to make a post on her conspiracy blog.
Sorry I haven't …been updating my bloog … too much
I've been pulling too many … all-nighters, thanks to all these code purples. I need to help Star. … cause if I don't, …she'll only have Marco … and there's power in numbers …
She had begun to write a paragraph about Penn, but she fell asleep on the keyboard. Until the doorbell rang. She woke up, scramble to both publish the post, and close her laptop and set it aside, and then ran to the door. What was it now? Was Star needing her assistance with yet another Code Purple?
What she didn't expect was Penn, standing outside her door.
"Penn, what the heck are you doing here this late at night? Also…how do you know where I live?"
"Miya, wow, this is actually a huge coincidence…" Penn seemed embarrassed a little bit. "My Aunt and Uncle sent me over here to complain about how loud the music is, heh."
"Oh…" Miya went over to the stereo and turned it off.
"Also…what's that on your hand?" Penn took Miya's hand, which startled her. He got a closer look at the poorly scrawled marker on her hand, making a crudely trianglular shape with an eye, with a chicken scratch writing that said something like "Illuminati confirmed".
"I don't remember writing that on my hand…" Miya squinted. She was so tired, she had lost her grip on reality, completely.
"Are you okay?" he asked her, with slight concern.
"Can I tell you something? I haven't slept in 6 days" she laughed
"That's not healthy."
"I know it's not…I don't care" she shrugged. And then fell face first on the ground.
"Yeah, okay, you're going to sleep right now."
"No! Never! Marco tried to make me sleep 2 weeks ago! He hasn't been seen since!"
"Uh…I saw him yesterday…." Penn commented. He picked up Miya.
"No! Don't manhandle me!" she whined, and poked him hard in the cheek with her finger.
"Okay, ouch! And no. You're going to sleep." He said. He carried her up the stairs, and opened a door, presumably her room, since no one was in it.
Her room was a mess.
"Miya…be honest with me. Have you ever heard of organization?" He commented, about the ginormous amount of things that were disorganized in her room.
"Yeah…Who cares about that orgasmization!" she slurred, not realizing even slightly what she had just said.
"Organization." Penn corrected her. He set her on her bed. He got in bed with her as well, and pulled the blanket over the both of them. "Now go to sleep. I'm staying right here to make sure you do."
"Alright, alright stop being a poop." She yawned, and rested her head on his chest.
"Your…pillow is right the-whatever." He said.
She had fallen asleep before he got the chance to finish that sentence.
He felt oddly comfortable with her snuggling up to him in her sleep, and was out soon enough too.
Hours later, Penn woke up.
Miya was nowhere to be found. He sat up, and stretched and yawned. He went downstairs, and Miya was right back on the computer. He looked over her shoulder.
"What ya writing?" he asked.
Miya was startled and slammed her laptop shut. "N-nothing."
"It's dirty, isn't it?" Penn smirked at her.
"N-no! Don't be ridiculous!"
"Is it about me? Is that why you're getting so defensive?"
"No! I-"
"It's about both of us, isn't it?"
"I was writing a conspiracy theory about the art teacher, actually…"
"What? About Rippen? Ew! Why would you-" Penn reacted in disgust. But then realized he had misunderstood. "Wait, conspiracy theory? Like…Illuminati and triangles?"
"Uh…That's a type of conspiracy, yes."
"What are you writing? I wanna hear it."
Miya sighed. "Alright, I'll show you." And she did.
"Actually, that's not even close."
"How do you know?"
"I have my ways."
"Tell me! I could have an exclusive right here!"
"Well…I might get in trouble…You probably shouldn't publish it…But…"
Penn went in vivid detail about everything he knew about Rippen, based on things that happened in missions.
Miya wrote it all down, but when she read back over it, was disappointed to find it just wasn't conspiracy-y enough for her blog.
"Hey, don't worry Miya. Rippen may not be triangular enough for one of your conspiracy theories, but I'm sure you can find another subject for a theory." Penn patted.
"Hm….Triangular…Ohhhh I see what you did there." Miya smirked at Penn.
Penn smirked back.
It was one of those moments where they just stared at each other. Doing nothing else.
They both realized this is super awkward, and looked away. Which, arguably, made things even more awkward.
"Heh. So." Penn rubbed the back of his head. He had something to say.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah…"
"Penn." She looked at him. Clearly she realized he had something to say to her, and she was starting to get a little impatient waiting for him to say it.
"Would you like to go on a date with me?"
"Yes, Penn. I'd love to."
Penn ran out of her home super excited. Then he realized they hadn't discussed a time and place, and quickly ran back in. "When?"
"Tonight?" she shrugged
"Alright! I'll pick you up at 8!"
She smiled. "I'll be waiting."
A/N: This update took entirely too long. I'm pretty tired, so I'm not so sure of the quality, I'm sorry. I'll try to make the next update better.
