A prophesy foretold through generations, A young boy from the past world will awaken to a destiny much more greater than he had known and, perhaps, find love with the lonely princess of Planet Arus. Will he become the pilot of the Defender of the Universe?

Chapter 5

Training and Visions

On a bright sunny day in the courtyard of the castle of lions Shinji could be seen on his knees panting on the castle grounds, his body sore, bruised and sweating from training. His wooden training sword feebly clutched on his right arm. He tried to stand or at least get to a knee but found that his body would not responded properly. The sun high up indicates that it was a little past noon.

His opponent smiled before saying,

"I did warn you this style of sword fighting the way of the Ataru was going be difficult to master, young Shinji." said Coran "And this only first sword style I wish to teach you"

"So you say master Coran, "Shinji grunted getting up readying his wooden sword.

"Once more from the top,"

Shinji got up raising his wooden sword with both hands on the guard, holding the sword vertically on his right side, (Star Wars Ataru Stance), he clashed his sword with his instructor's quickly, with upward vertical slash, then a horizontal strike, Coran retaliated with horizontal strike of his own.

"Remember my apprentice, control your central line, it is crucial during a fight." Coran advised pushing Shinji into a defensive form.

The two continued to clash, matching each other move for move, Shinji for his part pushed his pace, using his youthful energy to his advantage, locking his sword vertically against his masters.

"Good, good, but remember your opponent will not hesitate to capitalize on any mistake you make, like this!"

Coran used an underhand vertical strike to disarm his apprentice and point his sword and his throat. The older man just chuckled

"I believe that is enough for today my apprentice, you should go get yourself cleaned up, you are having lunch with the princess aren't you?" Coran asked getting a nod from Shinji

"Yes, I know there were some people that weren't happy when you announced that you picked me to be your apprentice, and the king officially named me the princesses royal companion, they've made their displeasure apparent by the looks they've sent me, every time I've walk by." Shinji said remembering the glares sent his way from various nobles he'd seen.

"That is to be expected, many sons of nobles have all tried to accomplish my test, all with the hopes of getting close to Princess Allura. And they've all failed, because they didn't have the strength of character to continue onward and gave up, demanding from me a easier test. They've been pampered all of their lives, never knowing a hard days work, so when I saw you, I saw inside you someone similar to myself when I was a boy when the old king found me."

"So..did you know, or were surprised like everyone else when I came back with the flower." Shinji hesitantly asked

"I will not lie to you, I was indeed surprised that you not only found the nightshade flower, but survived one of the most treacherous territories on Arus, some would call it luck, others may call it perseverance." Coran explained

"What would you call it?"

"It might be a bit of both, although I believe it maybe something else entirely."

"And that would be?"

Coran laughed inwardly

"I will keep to myself for now until I know for certain. Now its best you go on, its rude to keep a princess waiting."

"Oh, right I'd better get going." Shinji said bowing in respect rushing back into the castle to get cleaned up.

Coran watched his retreating a sudden thought came to him

'Could he truly be the one to revive him?'

(Later on that night)

Shinji found himself floating in a blue void, of nothingness he looked all around for any other signs of life. Before he could question where he was, he found himself suddenly pulled upward, towards rocky canyon, then next under vast blue ocean, then he found himself in a fiery volcano.

"Wha- What's going?! Where am I? Why is this happening?!" Shinji exclaimed his voice echoing throughout the volcano.

The boy suddenly found himself in a deep forest teeming with abundance of life, then lastly Shinji was pulled upward into outer space, it was there that a massive shadowy silhouette appeared in front of him. From what he could tell, it seemed be made of lions in five sections.

"What is this?!" Shinji asked looking at the silhouette

As if responding to his question it peered down upon him, and spoke in soothing female voice

"The time is drawing near my child," the voice echoed as everything suddenly turned to white

Shinji woke up in a sweat, breathing heavily, his eyes scanning the room, relived to find that he was still on Arus and not in space.

"That dream again" Shinji breathed "I've been having it every night since I've been up that mountain."

Feeling unable to fall back asleep Shinji decided to go outside to get some air, getting up from bed the boy, walked out of the room, Shinji looked around for the night guards,seeing that there were none Shinji headed out the door and walked into the hallway, after several; minutes of walking he reached one of the gardens of the castle.

It had a large fountain in the shape of a lion's head on a hil with water pouring out of its mouth. The garden contained seven of rows of neatly trimmed bushes on opposite ends, flowers gardens at the entrance and groves of sparkling flowers lining the pathways. Shinji sighed and sat down on the edge on the fountain, and let his mind wander, he looked at the starry sky above with a sense of peace, something he had never had before back on his earth.

"The stars are beautiful tonight aren't they?" a soft voice asked suddenly startling him

The boy jumped up in surprise and looked around for the source of the voice,

"Huh, who's there?" Shinji asked

His answer stepped out from behind the fountain, revealing herself to be Queen Ariella, clad in a sliver elegant nightgown with a robe wrapped around her. Shinji immediately straighten himself out and bowed hastily. The Queen merely smiled

"There's no need to stand on ceremony here my dear, come sit with me." Ariella beckoned sitting on the edge of fountain.

"I don't mean to impose your highness." he said

"Nonsense, I could use the company, sit." she said gesturing to spot next to her.

Shinji for his part hesitantly obeyed. Ariella scooted closer to him,enjoying the quiet as well as his company.

"So what brings you out here this time of night my dear?" Ariella asked in a motherly tone

"I..I ..couldn't sleep, I've been having these strange dreams lately." Shinji answered not wanting to lie to the queen

"Oh, what kind of dreams?" Ariella inquired with interest.

"Well at first I find myself in a cloudy sky blue void, then I'm suddenly in a large canyon, then in a deep ocean, then a vast forest, then a fiery volcano, then lastly I'm in outer space, with a large shadow looming over me."

The Queen's eyes was filled with familiarity at that last part.

"Then I heard a familiar voice, It just said: The time is drawing near my child, and the thing is it the large shadow, your highness, it seemed to be made up of..lions" Shinji finished

"Lions?" Ariella repeated

"Yes, I know it sounds odd, but I've been having this dream ever since I appeared on Arus, but I don't know what it means."

The Queen was silent at the information she just received, thinking it aligns with the prophecy foretelling of the Defender of the universe's return.

"I just wonder what they mean, " Shinji sighed trying to make sense of it all.

"Have you told anyone else about this Shinji? Coran or my daughter perhaps?" Asked Ariella getting a shake of the head no.

"No, your highness, I didn't want to bother either of them with this, especially since it could be nothing."

Ariella smiled at him, at how considerate he was.

"Or do you think they could mean something your highness?" Shinji asked

The queen was silent for a moment before replying

"I just might my dear child, but I'll need to do the proper research to know for sure." she replied

"But you don't -"

"I must, it maybe link to something long buried in Arus's history." Ariella said wistfully "I've long since suspected your arrival here was no accident."

Shinji just looked at her wondering what she meant by that and what she was thinking. After a few minutes of silence Ariella got up from the fountain with Shinji, they both walked back inside the castle in silence, Shinji bid the queen goodnight, she watched his retreating form now fully convinced that Shinji was indeed the chosen one, and would need to speak with her husband and Coran soon and begin to make preparations.

(Elsewhere)

On the other side of the Leo Cluster, also known as the far universe lays the seat of power of a vast interplanetary empire. Unlike that of Planet Arus and its constituent planets, this is an empire ruled by an iron fist by its rulers. Their main objective is conquest. To seize another planet's resources to power their war machines.

Fifteen serf planets and countless slave worlds bow down to this mighty empire. And its crowning glory, the capital planet, Is named as ominously. Indeed, the name of the planet alone,. Its name was Doom. In a large darkness filled palace with an aura of evil at the balcony stood, a purple skinned young man with long mane of white hair, he had pointy ears black eyes with yellow sclerae, he wore a royal dark and grayish tunic with black boots and a sword at his hip. His name was Lotor, prince of the Drules. He looked at the dreary gray sky of his homeworld with a sense of ambition.

"Princess Allura, the time draws near, and you will belong to me!" Lotor declared.

(With Shinji and Allura)

"I am sorry to keep you waiting, Master Coran extended the time of our training." he said

"Its alright, my tutors are the same way, as is nanny, she can be such an old prude." Allura laughed

Both of them had a quick laugh and then started to eat their meals. Soon, the Space Mice smelled the food and joined them.

"It's been months since I came here." Shinji said suddenly. "One minute I'm on the verge of death, the next minute, I'm on another planet hearing your beautiful voice and meeting , and I couldn't be happier."

"Yes." Allura spoke, "Many things had happened since then, I finally have a friend, I'm not so lonely anymore."

"Neither am I , I'm happy I met you and I'm happy you're my best friend." the young boy smiled at her

"Me too, Shinji." The princess spoke but somehow, she felt that she wanted much more.

(The Archine Archives)

Queen Ariella was once again the Archives room look over the old scrolls of ancient, the glowing tome caught her attention. She went over to flip to a blank page and her eyes widened when she saw what was being written. It Read:

The young cub, will see his destiny, and continue to grow stronger with each passing day, as he has someone to protect. Then he will quest for the power to revive the Defender of the Universe.

End notes: Let me clear this up right now, so there's no confusion. This is based off Voltron Defender of the Universe, off the premise that he was once a whole robot, not five lions. So no there will be no team, just Shinji activating Voltron. I'm sorry if the chapter isn't what you might have expected, its merely a character study and some development for Shinji, and as to who else knows the legend of Voltron. And yes Ataru is from Star Wars, the next styles Shinji will learn will be Soresu and Dejem so. Next chapter will be longer, the spirit of Yui Ikari will make her presence felt, bringing a warning. And Shinji and Allura, will get a lot closer expect a bit of time skip between them. Suggestions are welcomed, read and review and be cool.
