~Chapter 12~

Mirinda (Mi) Part 2/2

Mi could not believe how much her Tackle improved!

Her new Trainer had confirmed what she knew about Tackle, that the power behind the attack came from bulk and speed. Since she was small and light, most of the power would come from how fast she could go (which wasn't very fast originally), but after the white-haired boy used his Pokédex to show her videos of how other fish-like Pokémon swam to gain speed, she improved almost instantly. She had never been able to break any of the rocks in the pond with her Tackle! Her attempts as a wild Pokémon always resulted in a headache and bruised pride.

But that was in the past.

She was so excited. Finneon was right. Maybe there was something to this whole Trainer thing.

--

Since her new Trainer gave her a name, Mi decided to give him one too.

Pretty Eyes.

She noticed it more at night, but his bright green eyes seemed to shine from within. She wasn't sure if that was a human thing. Perhaps all human eyes glowed at night? Eevee found the name amusing and seemed to know why, but she wasn't offering any explanation.

That was fine. Mi didn't want to ask too many questions and accidentally annoy her new teammate and friend (the pond had been awfully lonely once Finneon left). Eevee was nice and cared about Pretty Eyes, so Mi figured that it probably wasn't hurting him and was normal.

--

Pretty Eyes seemed impressed that she knew Confuse Ray, which was a ghost move. That explained the cold feeling within her.

Oddly enough, Pretty Eyes seemed to have a cold feeling too. She only noticed once she demonstrated Confuse Ray for him.

She was starting to grow concerned. Why would Pretty Eyes have ghost energy within him? He was human, not a ghost, and most certainly not dead. Mi was still a little reluctant to ask her teammate. Eevee knew Shadow Ball, so she must have felt it too.

Perhaps she was panicking over nothing? Mi decided to keep an eye on Pretty Eyes, just in case. First his eyes glowed, and now the cold feeling? That didn't seem normal.

--

Okay, now she was definitely worried.

Pretty Eyes had released her into water that had a glass case around it. The minute she took in her surroundings, she noticed that the cold feeling within the green-eyed boy was more present than ever. She frowned in concern and tried to hide her panic, not paying much attention to the new addition to the team.

Mi wasn't using Confuse Ray and she didn't see any sign of Eevee's Shadow Ball. What was going on?

The young Feebas relaxed slightly when she realized that her new teammate, now-named Comet, was a ghost.

Okay, so that's why the cold feeling was there all the time. But why does Pretty Eyes have it in the first place?

--

When Pretty Eyes explained where he was truly from, Mi was shocked, then pleased. She already thought Pretty Eyes was the best Trainer, ignoring the fact that most trained Pokémon felt the same about their own Trainer.

Pffft. She doubted any of them were from a different dimension, or had ghost powers. None of them could fly or shoot ice out of their hands and eyes.

That also explained the cold feeling! Mi felt sad briefly. It sounded like it had hurt a lot to get these abilities of his. She quickly dismissed it because Pretty Eyes seemed happy with his life (half-life?), so the Feebas didn't see the point in being sad.

Her Pretty Eyes was the best and no one could convince her otherwise.

--

Mi stared at her reflection, awed by what she was seeing. She didn't understand how that white, blobby stuff worked, but she already liked what it did. The Fish Pokémon had been feeling much better about her appearance ever since Pretty Eyes caught her. He had been helping with keeping her scales clean, clearing out anything that got caught on them. He also didn't seem to care what any of them looked like in the first place, so the Feebas no longer worried too much about it.

But this...

Her scales shined. They were still the same color, but they looked clean and healthy and amazing!

This was her? These were her scales? This was what she looked like without the grime of the wild, without the heaviness of depression?

It didn't look fake or unnatural. This was real. The little Feebas held in her tears of joy, not wanting to alarm Pretty Eyes.

She was so grateful that she had decided to sunbathe that fateful day.

--

Mi woke up after a long nap, confused. She still felt sleepy and was about to go back to the cocoon of coziness that was her Pokéball when she heard a menacing growl, deep and threatening.

It sounded like Eevee!

She tried to hear what was happening (her Pokéball muffled everything from outside) and grew excited when it sounded like a battle. Yes! She really wanted to battle and show off how much better her scales looked. She frowned in concern when all she heard was silence. Mi could hear a female talking, but not what was being said. The Fish Pokémon curled her lips in annoyance, not liking the person's tone.

Listening closely, the Feebas could finally make out what the girl was saying, and fumed. No one threatened her Pretty Eyes.

The water type struggled to get out of her Pokéball, having no idea how to leave it. After a few seconds, she felt the container start to release her, but then it clamped shut.

No! She needed to get out!

Mi struggled and wiggled and attempted to summon attacks, her panic quickly growing into anger as she heard more glimpses of the situation outside.

Finally, after what felt like hours, the Fish Pokémon broke out with an Ice Beam forming at her lips. She quickly found her Pretty Eyes, pissed at the snake for daring to bind him in such a manner, and unleashed her attack.

Mi watched with pride as Pretty Eyes bravely bashed his head against the side of the snake's, freeing himself from the coils and allowing her second Ice Beam to find its target.

--

After double checking that Pretty Eyes wasn't hurt, Mi relaxed, completely missing the sound of breaking ice.

She heard the other man's shout of warning and watched with horror as her Pretty Eyes got thrown against the wall, poison eating away at his shirt and skin.

No! He couldn't die! They had been so happy. Her teammates were nice and Pretty Eyes was so sweet. He didn't deserve this!

There had to be something she could do! The little brown fish started to feel a power growing within her, expanding within her chest. She embraced it without a second thought, hoping it was the answer to her prayers.

The little Feebas, once self-conscious and weak, evolved into a beautiful and powerful Milotic.

AN: What did you all think of Mi's backstory? I was trying to show her growth from a weak, shy, and unconfident Pokémon to a powerful one that no longer backed down from a fight.

I've also decided that I'm going to use moves and Pokémon up to and including Unova (Generation V). Moves and Pokémon from later will not be included. Sorry, I'm not all that familiar with them and want to focus more on the story rather than trying to learn all this new stuff.

I'm still deciding on Mega Evolution, the ranger regions like Almia, and the Shadow Pokémon place (Orre).

Reviews:

Xion The XIV: Thanks for the advice. I'll think about it.

Guest: Entering into a contest is interesting. Maybe Danny can enter into a small one or something? I'm still thinking about giving him an egg. I'm trying to make this story realistic and having a baby Pokémon will be tough because it wouldn't be able to battle competitively for a while.

KorevainsoLightshire: In general, it depends on the type of story. I think with Pokémon crossovers, it's harder to include Danny's powers. I personally don't think there is much to be done with them. If the story involves Danny becoming a Trainer, then the main thing he can do is train with his Pokémon. There are other plots (people think he's a new rare Pokémon, evil organizations want to use him, etc.), but it depends entirely on the writer. I wanted to include the whole background with Evolution Island, so it wouldn't have made sense for Danny to have his powers. Clockwork allowed him to become a Trainer so he could be a normal kid. Having his powers defeats the purpose of this. Also, if all the ghosts who had come to the Pokémon dimension had their powers, one would eventually slip up and use them in front of the wrong person. Eventually, the League or evil organization would find out, figure out where they are from, and then start investigating the Clockwork Clan, which is something that Clockwork is trying to avoid. I think this chapter answers your question about Danny's ectoplasm. There will be an explanation of why that's there in a later chapter. Thanks for the reviews!

DP-Observant69: Thanks for the thorough explanation! I think I was thinking about all of Ash's adventures as a whole when I wrote that and not just the stuff that happened before he met May, so thanks for catching that.
