True Blood

Chapter 29

Adelaide lay on the cement floor, curled around the silver loop that kept her confined to the small windowless room. Her eyes focused on her charred wrists, that lay in front of her in her line of sight. A bag of blood lay untouched in front of the silver door. The opening door revealed a smiling Christian.

He clapped his gloved hands together, "My dear girl, are you ready to make history?"

He waited for an answer, and when she didn't respond, he frowned, "Please, remind me. How much do you love, Pamela De Beaufort and Eric Northman?"

The smile once again touched his lips at the sight of Adelaide's body stiffen at his words.

"I will ask you again. Are you ready to make history?"

Adelaide's voice was strained, "Yes."

Christian sneered, "Didn't those two buffoons teach you any manners? Yes, what?"

"Yes, sir."

"I don't much care for that word. Sir." he said, running his fingers through Adelaide's short dyed hair. "It sounds extremely informal; don't you think? Master sounds so much better, in my opinion. Don't you agree?"

"Yes, Master Christian."

He stroked her face, "That's my girl. It's such a shame that you ruined such pretty blonde hair, with this ugly dye."

Adelaide turned her head away from his touch. It made her skin crawl.

"Ohhh," Christian's voice feigned surprise, "Got a little fight left in you, do you? Not to worry, my dear. I will enjoy breaking you of that."

He swapped out the chains around Adelaide's wrists, for a shorter one. She didn't want to scream, but she couldn't help herself. "Now, come. It's time to make history."

"There now," Christian said, as he secured her chains to either side of the slab, "All snug and comfy, yes?"

Adelaide couldn't stop screaming. Her skin melded to the slab; that had been purposely made of silver.

"Your parents will be so grateful to you, once you share your secret with me," He stroked her dark hair as she whimpered. "Soon, all of my kind will be grateful to me. For discovering the long-awaited cure to that pesky little sun allergy, that has plagued all vampires for millennia. All except you."

"You better hope my parents never find you." Adelaide murmured through the pain, a hint of the fire within her rearing its head.

"Oh," he lifted an eyebrow, "and why is that?"

"Because," Adelaide said, her eyes locked onto her parents, who stood in the corner of the small room. She couldn't help but wonder how Christian had yet to notice them. She watched as her Daddy strolled with his air of confidence right behind Christian preparing to strike.

A smile touched her lips as she watched her Daddy's fangs extend, with a steak in hand, ready to pierce Christian's heart from behind. "My daddy is going to kill you."

"You think so, huh?" Christian turned to see what she was gazing contently at but saw nothing. He turned back to Adelaide, whose grin faded. He sneered at her, "Not to worry, child. You will realize that no one is coming for you, and the people you love so deeply, no longer love you. Give it time."

"Daddy?" Her eyes searched frantically for her parents. Where had they gone? "Mommy? Where did you go? Please come back!"

Christian turned and walked out of the room. She was already behaving like she had been injected with the hallucinogenics. He was greeted by a dark-haired vampire in a white coat.

"Your next subject is ready for you, Doctor." Christian said, "How did you expose her to the serum?"

"It was in the silver; she was sprayed with, which is why it took some time for it to take effect. She probably got about a third of what a normal specimen would get."

"I see."

"Why do you ask?"

"Give her more."

"But she is so small, I am not sure how she will react to it."

Christian grabbed the doctor by the throat, "I don't care what it will do to her. I have a feeling we will need to find a way to replicate her ability quickly. Inject her directly. The less she struggles through the whole thing the better."

The doctor nodded and hurried into the room.

Christian entered the small room that had computer equipment and a one-way window. He snickered as Adelaide struggled against her chains as the doctor sucked a golden liquid into a large needled syringe.

"You are going to give me what I want, girl. Even if I have to kill you to do it." Christian sneered, as the door opened. "What is it, Alister?"

Alister was a big, brawny looking vampire, "We have a problem."

"Which is?"

"One of our northern facilities," he began, slowly.

"What about it?"

"It has been attacked. Doctor Fisher called before he was dispatched. As far as we can tell there are no survivors."

"I see." Christian said slowly, "I guess, Northman, hasn't given up just yet."

"And he's not alone." Alister continued, "He has Gabriel with him."

"The teddy bear is a glutton for punishment, I see. By the time they find us," he said as he watched the large needle pierced the girl's flesh. The liquid slowly seeped into her veins as she thrashed, "It'll be too late. We will have what we need, and if they want what's left, then they can have it."

Eric ripped the throat out of the last doctor and grabbed the phone receiver before his body hit the ground. The line was dead.

"Eric," the sound of her voice made him instantly turned to look at her. All of the strange creatures locked in cages had unnerved her. They all seemed feral, almost as if they were nothing but wild animals without even a human's capacity for thought.

"I know, Pam." Eric said, softly.

"This bastard is the one who has been having creatures taken from their homes. He's the one who has been experimenting on them."

"Do you know why?" Eric asked, shifting his gaze back to Gabriel Thomas.

"The Death Arena would be my guess." Gabriel said. That response angered Eric's progeny instantaneously.

Pam stalked toward him with her fangs extended in warning, "You mean to tell me, that you knew this asshole was fucking with creatures, and you put a scared little girl in his line of sight?"

Krystal extended her arm out to stop Pam from advancing further, "She agreed, Miss De Beaufort. I suggest you stop before something gets out of hand."

Pam sneered, "It's already out of hand! You had no right to take her to that God-forsaken place, regardless of what she agreed to do."

"I had every right!" Gabriel said putting his hands-on Krystal's small shoulders, "We took her in, and she agreed to help us. It's not us whom you should be focusing your anger on! It's that bastard who tears families apart and perhaps yourselves. You cannot claim to be blameless in this!"

"Excuse me," Pam snapped angrily, "How dare you imply…"

"Did she not run away?" He continued, "You should be asking yourselves, why? Why someone you act as though you love, so deeply would run away from you? Where have you failed her?"

"That's enough!" Eric's voice boomed, "This is not helping anyone. Fighting amongst ourselves won't get us anywhere."

How could Eric reveal that it had been to protect them? Had his daughter really believed that they would not have been able to keep her safe? The reality of his inability to keep his children safe ate away at him. What had Adelaide been thinking when she had walked out of Fangtasia?

Another chapter up. Until next time, everyone. Have a great day and please review! 😊
