Taking a break

Hello everyone!

Although this probably sounds lazy and just like I'm quitting and giving up on this story, please don't view it that way. I've had a blast with this story, and three years ago I never would have thought I'd honestly get this far. But due to a waning interest that I just can't seem to re-spark at the moment, as well as interest in other things, I'm going to be halt writing new chapters of this story for the time being. This doesn't explicitly mean that I'm totally abandoning the story, as I may revisit this again. However, as of now, don't expect any new chapters.

Let's start off with how this all started in the first place. I began writing this story with only the knowledge of Rowan, Zav, and Aves. Everything else, and I mean literally everything else, I made up as I went. I now see that was a huge mistake, as I always frantically tried to piece things together so that they made sense along with everything I had written thus far. I was terribly unorganized and it led to seriously limiting what I wanted to do with this story, the characters, and everything else. Hopefully, next time I write, I'll have enough sense to at least have a loose roadmap of where I want to go with this, instead of blindly running out and then realizing my mistake ten chapters in.

Second is I didn't make the world as fleshed out as I now realize I wanted it to be. This seems to be the case in writing fanfiction of any kind. I felt limited to the confines of the PMD series, and it felt like anything I tried to add out of my own attempted originality was awkward and unneeded. What I want is to essentially create my own world and universe, taking inspirations bit by bit from everything that I love and combining it into something that I can do with as I please. I just felt like, with this story, I can't do that. Maybe in the beginning, but certainly not now.

Third is that I've honestly lost interest in PMD as a whole. As you can probably tell, my story is barely a PMD one at that. Dungeons are pretty unheard of now, and instead, the story follows pokemon in an open world sort of setting, not at all adhering to the theme of guilds and teams of PMD. Of course, none of you seemed to be opposed to this, so I went along with it. Now, however, I'm feeling I'm losing interest in pokemon as a whole. I'm just not excited anymore to write with them, and I catch myself thinking of other potential stories with characters that are obviously not pokemon. In fact, the last pokemon game I played was when I started writing this, and it was Explorers Of Sky, and I haven't so much as touched it since that time.

Lastly is that writing this story has stopped being fun, and has turned more into a chore. I remember when I started, words poured out onto the screen nearly effortlessly, and although riddled with errors, the structure and idea was still there, and I was having a blast with it. Now it feels like a battle just to put the right words down, writers block, if I may. But instead of it going away after a couple chapters, it has persisted for nearly a year, and I've come to the conclusion that I'm just not feeling the story anymore. Of course, there are many things I still love about it, one of such being the characters, but I feel more like I've caught myself in a trance when thinking of the plot and everything else. It just isn't fun anymore and over a year I've struggled to come up with a solution to this dilemma. This is why I've decided to take a break, as I think it's the only way I'm gonna keep my happiness and my sanity for that matter.

I'm not going to reveal what I had planned for this story as far as the plot goes, as I think there's a strong chance I might revisit this story some time in the future. I'm extremely sorry to disappoint, and I would have never imagined I'd get this far. I mean 200,000 plus words is an achievement to me, considering I had never written a single piece of creative writing when I started.

This is not me quitting writing, as you may have already guessed. Far from it. I currently am brainstorming a story I want set in a world I'm creating, that will be primarily fantasy based, and I'm working on the world it'll be set in. Once I start writing the story I'm not sure where I'll post it, since it won't be a fanfiction. I've thought Tumblr, but I'm totally open to suggestions as I have really no clue where people post online writing other than fanfiction. If you still are interested with my writing, or want to contact me, I have a reddit and a tumblr(that I just created), as well as messaging me on fanfiction.

Thank you all so much for your support!

Sincerely,

Eon11
