The journey to Celadon City would take a few days at least, by the second day after leaving Lavender Town, the group had yet to reach the Underground Path that would lead them to Celadon. Ash wanted to gets some training in before they reached the next city, so the group decided to set up camp a bit earlier than they usually would. As Misty assisted Brock in setting up their tents and such, Ash released his Pokémon. Charmander, Bulbasaur, Beedrill, Pidgeotto, and Haunter appeared from their Poké Balls. Realising he had yet to introduce Haunter to the rest of the team, he gestured towards the ghost, his other Pokémon turning to look. "Everyone, this is Haunter, your new teammate, get along with each other" he stated. Everyone greeted the Ghost Pokémon happily, with Haunter greeting them back. "All right then, training time!"

After learning from Brock that the Celadon Gym used Grass types, Ash decided to focus most of the training on the three of his Pokémon with the best chance against them, Charmander, Beedrill, and Pidgeotto. Ash decided he was going to attempt to teach Charmander Fire Spin, though he wasn't really sure on how to do so. Unlike Ember or Flame Burst, which were both basically just simple fire balls, Fire Spin was something that required more control, forming a ring of fire around the opponent, trapping them. Ash decided to start with just getting Charmander to practise continuously breathing a stream of fire, which, now that Ash thought about it, would also probably help the Lizard Pokémon learn to use Flamethrower as well. As Charmander began breathing fire at a nearby rock, Ash moved onto his other Pokémon.

Both Pidgeotto and Beedrill were going to learn Aerial Ace. Based on what Ash had read in his Pokédex, Aerial Ace mostly involved diving down very fast, while almost becoming invisible before hitting the opponent. So, for Pidgeotto, Ash had her dive using Quick Attack to boost her speed, but for Beedrill, it was a bit different. Since he couldn't use Quick Attack, Beedrill had to learn to fly faster than it usually could. By the time Ash decided to stop training for the day, both Pokémon made good progress with learning the move, though Pidgeotto was way closer to learning it than her teammate, who was still working on moving faster, though Ash could definitely tell the Bug type was getting faster. "You all did great today!" Ash praised, his Pokémon smiling in response. Ash recalled his team (minus Pikachu of course), and went to join his companions for the night.

As the group continued on the next day, they were stopped when a girl approached them. "Anyone of you want to battle me?" she asked. Ash grinned, stepping forward "I will!" The girl smiled, "Great, my name's Megan by the way" she said, as she stepped back a bit, throwing a Poké Ball, "Go Wigglytuff!"

A large pink Pokémon appeared, with large blue eyes, and rabbit-like ears. Ash pulled out his Pokédex, "Wigglytuff, the Balloon Pokémon, and the evolved form of Jigglypuff. A Normal and Fairy type. Wigglytuff's body is very flexible. By inhaling deeply, this Pokémon can inflate itself seemingly without end. Once inflated, Wigglytuff bounces along lightly like a balloon" the machine stated. "Alright then, Charmander, I Choose You!" Ash exclaimed, releasing his starter Pokémon. "Char!" he cried as he appeared on the field. Brock stood to the side of the battlefield, acting as the judge. "The standard 4 moves per battle rule will apply, Charmander versus Wigglytuff! Begin!"

"Wigglytuff, start with Defense Curl!" Megan ordered. Wigglytuff quickly pulled itself into a ball, an orange aura appearing around it for a moment before it uncurled itself. "Charmander, Flame Burst!" Ash ordered, Charmander fired a powerful blast of fire towards the Balloon Pokémon hitting it in the face. Wigglytuff cried out in pain, but still stood, "Wigglytuff use Mega Punch!" Wigglytuff ran forward, surprisingly fast, its fist (though it was more of a nub really) glowing white, slamming into Charmander, the Lizard Pokémon flying backwards. He pushed himself back up, glaring at the Fairy type, "You okay Charmander?" Ash asked, Charmander responded with a nod "Char!" "Alright then, use Metal Claw!" Charmander smirked as ran towards his opponent, his claws glowing silver. "Wigglytuff slow him down with Echoed Voice!" "Tuuuffff!" Wigglytuff let out a shout, the sound waves visible as they hit Charmander, who flinched at the sound, but managed to keep going, though a bit slower, though it gave time for Wigglytuff to follow Megan's next command, "Wigglytuff, inflate now!" the Balloon Pokémon stopped shouting, and sucked in a lot of air, its body expanding as it began float into the air. "Charmander stop!" Ash quickly exclaimed, no point in continuing the move if it wouldn't hit. "Now Flame Burst!" Aiming at the floating Pokémon, Charmander fired another Flame Burst, knocking his opponent out of the sky. "Wigglytuff! As you come down, use Play Rough!" Wigglytuff smirked, as it flew towards Charmander, slamming into him as an almost cartoony cloud of dust appeared around the two, Charmander's grunts of pain being heard from within. "Charmander!" Ash cried. As Wigglytuff's attack came to an end, Charmander was tossed backwards towards Ash, slamming into the ground. "Charmander, are you okay?" Ash asked. Charmander winced as he tried to push himself back up, "You can do it Charmander!" Ash encouraged, which seemed to give the Fire type the strength he needed to get up. "Chaarr!" he cried, his tail flame flaring up as he began to glow blue. "Charmander… you're…" Ash said in shock. "He's evolving!" Misty exclaimed. Charmander grew taller, and a horn sprouted on his head. When the light cleared, Charmander was gone, as a Charmeleon stood in his place! "Charmeleon!" he cried. "Charmeleon…" Ash said, pulling out his Pokédex "Charmeleon, the Flame Pokémon, and the evolved form of Charmander. A Fire type. Charmeleon mercilessly attacks its foes using its sharp claws. If it encounters a strong foe, it turns aggressive. In this excited state, the flame at the tip of its tail flares with a bluish white colour. Upon evolving Charmeleon has learned the moves Fire Spin and Slash" Ash grinned, "That's awesome Charmeleon!" he praised. Charmeleon smirked in reply, his tail flaring again. "Alright, lets do this, Charmeleon, use Fire Spin!" Charmeleon breathed a stream of fire towards his opponent, though rather than hit Wigglytuff, the flames created a ring around it trapping it. Embers flew from the ring, hitting the Fairy type for minor amounts of damage. "Now use Metal Claw!" Charmeleon charged towards his opponent, claws now extending slightly as they glowed silver, and with the Fire Spin trapping it, Wigglytuff couldn't avoid it. The Flame Pokémon slashed at Wigglytuff, causing super effective damage, "Finish it with Flame Burst!" Charmeleon let out a close-range attack, hitting the Balloon Pokémon directly in the face, as it collapsed, it's eyes swirling. "Wigglytuff is unable to battle, Ash and Charmeleon win!" Brock stated.

Ash ran forward and embraced his newly evolved starter, "You were great, Charmeleon!" Charmeleon smiled at the praise, hugging his trainer back. Brock, Misty, and Pikachu ran over to congratulate to pair. Megan returned her fallen Pokémon before walking over to Ash and Charmeleon as well. "You two were impressive" she said. Ash stood up to face her, "Thanks, you and Wigglytuff were as well" he replied. Megan smiled "Well thank you, hey, are you entering the Celadon Tournament?" she asked. "Tournament?!" Ash exclaimed excitedly. Megan nodded, "Uh huh, the winner apparently gets a Pokémon egg from another region!" she explained. "I am definitely entering, right Pikachu?" asked Ash, "Pika!" his partner replied. "Thanks for telling us!" he thanked. "No problem, well, I've gotta go get Wigglytuff healed up, see you around!" said Megan, waving as she ran off. The trio waved back, before continuing on their way to Celadon, now with another reason to get there.

I wrote most of this chapter around the time I uploaded the previous chapter, but I was waiting a bit so they weren't so close together, but ended up kind of forgetting about it until now. I know its kinda short, but here it is.
