Author's Note: I had this story ready to post yesterday, but we had a power outage, and I couldn't. But thanks to Kristen3 for reading & proofreading it for me! :)
Emma stared ahead out across the Storybrooke sky. She had never felt like this before, the feeling of being able to hurt the people you love. Physically hurt them. She felt hopeless, and didn't know what to do. If only she were able to leave town...She would even go that far. It would be worth it, if she wasn't around everybody constantly.
Suddenly, a scene from her past floated in her mind. It was Neal, smiling at her. She hadn't thought of Neal for a while, thanks to a certain pirate. Why now? Maybe he was trying to tell her something. Thinking of Neal just made her feel more depressed. She shook her head to try to clear it.
But then, from the shadows, she heard a rustling noise. Great, she thought. She knew she couldn't hide from them for very long. Her first instinct was to run. Whoever it was didn't deserve to see her right now.
She quietly opened her car door, which proved to be a mistake. For then, she saw who was coming towards her. It was Killian. If it were any other time, she would've welcomed his presence. But she didn't have any other choice. She took off.
"Swan, wait!" She heard him shout. She finally turned to look at him. She didn't even care that she must've looked like a mess.
He started coming closer, but Emma couldn't control her feelings. "You better stay back!" Suddenly, a flash sent Emma flying backward over a log. She winced in pain. But she knew she couldn't make Killian stop.
He caught up with her and knelt down beside her. "Are you all right, love?"
Emma shook her head. "I told you to stay back. Nobody needs to see me right now. Not even you."
He gently brushed a stray hair out of Emma's eye, and noticed she'd been crying. "See? Nothing happened." He smiled.
Emma was surprised. She should've blasted them both, like she did with Henry. Remembering the earlier incident with Henry made her forget everything that was happening right now.
She turned towards Killian and looked him in the eyes. "I h-hurt Henry. And my parents." She started to sob again.
"Shh...Henry's fine, love. Elsa gave him ice for the cut. And as for your parents, they still love you. You know that. You should be thanking them. That light post was headed straight to me, but David pushed me away and got hit instead. But even that wasn't your fault."
"But it was! And I don't want it to happen again."
"Believe me, I know it won't. You know who you're talking to, right?" He held up his hook. "I've had my share of problems with my hands, or lack thereof. I probably know better than anyone else what you're going through right now, and how you're feeling."
"You couldn't possibly..."
"You feel hopeless and want to do anything to make it stop. But, Emma, going to the crocodile isn't the answer. It'll only just make it worse."
Emma was amazed. He knew exactly what she was feeling. She sighed and leaned in for a kiss. She went in tentatively at first, but she knew. She would be OK now.
"It'll just take time for it to happen, but once it does, it'll be more natural to you. I promise." For the first time since she ran off, she smiled. She didn't know what she would do if she didn't have Killian.
"Now, come on. There are people anxiously waiting and worrying about you." He offered his free hand to her.
She didn't know what would happen once she saw her parents again. But she knew one thing. She would always have somebody there watching over her.
The End
