Chapter 1: Some things never end

Tuff of brown hair, a small body of a boy and a laughed, soft as the sounds of wind chimes, echoed as I watched a blurred figure ran past me. Not before long, the figure change into someone I don't know.

Someone who became a man instead of being a boy forever. Tall, broad shoulders and back. The way they carry themselves, says something about their authority, hinting others that they're not someone to mess with.

But somewhere in me knew that this guy meant well.

My hand twitched.

I want to touch him.

I had the urge too at the same time I felt hesitant.

Between my indecisive mind, my feet unconsciously drag me forward. My hand outstretched and I can almost touch him with just a few more steps and-

"Kaoru"

A small tap on my forehead broke me out of my sleep.

I blinked before looking at my partner, Deo.

"Deo?... What is it?"

My dark blue-haired friend, Deo, step away from me, seeing that he's only a few inches apart from my face.

"Kaoru, if you're going to sleep, sleep on your bed." Deo scolded with his usual stern look, at the same time, tapping a scrolled paper on his shoulder.

"Can't blame me, I'm too tired from last night's mission to even move." I drowsily reply while rubbing my eyes.

"Even so, you have to sleep on your bed and not sleep on random places in the mansion like here in the library or else you'll get sick!"

Leaning from my left hand to my right hand, I turned my head to look at the window beside me and stare at our mansion's garden while Deo goes on with his usual scolding, knowing full well that there's no stopping him once he started.

Last night's mission, the ninth gave us, have been the worst one this month. The mission was only for us to escort a descendant of a middle-class famiglia when an ambush happened right when we're almost on our destination, not to mention the ambush was not meant for us but for the Varia, who was coincidentally staying in a hotel near our stop.

Deo and I have planned not to get involved but at some point in the middle of the night where chaos and hell ensue, we found ourselves defending our lives and the boy we're supposed to escort.

That damn shark tooth just had to yell and dragged me. It's a good thing the boy got out alive in the end, though a little battered and traumatized, probably... but we still somehow finish it.

Oh, thinking of Varia, I made a mental note to give a lesson on that shark tooth later on. However, that wasn't the thing that almost took the light out of me but rather...

I glanced down at the table, where papers were all scattered, bearing my handwriting on most.

"Oi! Are you listening?"

I stare at Deo and gave him a nod. What was he talking about again?

He gave me a doubtful look, his eyebrows furrowing further, almost making him look like a demon.

"You didn't listen did you." He asked though it came out more of a statement than a question.

Wanting to ease the tension, I pointed between his brow. "Deo, you won't get popular with the girls if you look like a demon about to murder anyone in your path, you know. Why don't you ease up a bit?" I teased with a small smirk as I continue to poke between his brow.

An irritated look came over his face as a massive vein protruded in his forehead, shadows covering his eyes before smacking my hand away.

"Whose fault do you think it is?"

Oh shit. I flinch and turned my head away. "K.a.o.r.u" Deo sneered his face transforming like one of those Hannya masks.

Oh, scary... No wonder he's still single.

Behind Deo, Castor chuckled from watching us. It never bored him even though he'd been with us for so long already.

"Now, now, Deo. Don't be too hard on the young master."

I looked behind Deo, nodding at the light-violet haired male, which he returned with his gentle closed-eyed smile.

"And you're too soft on him, Castor." Deo countered, giving Castor a side glare. Castor only gives him a helpless smile.

Castor may look like an angel and seems the easiest target from my family but once you know him well, he's quite the opposite. From all the members that I have gained so far, he's the cruelest of all and someone bad to encounter if you're in his target list, especially when he's in a fight.

He's merciless.

I'm grateful enough I have him as an ally, not as an enemy.

Gathering all the papers on the table and putting it on a white folder, I stood up and walked towards Deo, whacking him on the head with it.

Deo hissed. "You little-"

"Here, the report from our last night mission." I interrupted, handing it to him. Deo could only stare at the folder in his hand with surprise.

Well, I couldn't blame him. I have been leaving all the paperwork this month to him and seeing him look so surprised, made me guilty. Usually, I'm not lazy but, for some reason, there's been something bugging me lately, resulting in losing my focus from doing my usual work. What's worse is that I don't know the reason why.

I started heading for the door but, before I completely left, I glance back at Deo, seeing him still looking at the folder.

"I know I've been leaving all the paperwork to you but, seeing how exhausted you've been last night, I made the reported this time to return the favor. You knew I have been distracted lately but still did all the paperwork… thank you, Deo."

Deo's eyes widened before he looked away.

"Hmph! You should be! You don't know how troublesome it was!"

I gave a small laugh at how he's his usual self again before completely walking out of the library, thinking of taking a bath before sleeping the whole day.

Castor, sitting down on one of the chairs, watched in amusement at how his dark blue-haired friend could look so flustered after his young master left.

Even though Deo looks like he'd rather kill his young master, Castor knew, deep down, Deo care so much for their young master's well being. The same goes for him and the other members of the family.

That's why he worries about their current predicament with the Vongola. Castor looked at the elegant envelope, lying on the desk, one that bore the symbol of the Vongola Famiglia, an invitation for their young master.

The envelope carried a sudden invitation from the Vongola and for reason, not only they want someone from their family but they want their young master to go in person.

For the past few years, representatives have been sent whenever an invitation arrives as to not show disrespect to any families they're on a good term with while not wanting to expose their young master at the same time but there had been cases, where Kaoru have to go in person yet it's always been in disguise and only people, who have utmost important status, were to know and meet him on these occasions.

But this time, they knew, no matter what they'd do, there's no choice for their young master but to come in person and reveal himself in the world of mafia.

Expose to those kinds of people... Completely bare and open to any kind of danger...

Just the thought of it makes their hackles rise.

Castor sighed through his nose and looked at Deo, who was now sitting across from him, checking his young master's work while still looking flustered and muttering under his breath.

"Deo"

Stopping his work, Deo looks at Castor.

"Have you talked to the young master about the upcoming ball?"

Upon recognizing what Castor talking about, Deo couldn't help but scowl.

"Ah…"

Castor glanced outside the open window beside them, an unusual frown marring his face rather than his usual gentle expression.

"I knew that the Decimo of the Vongola, hasn't arrived here in Italy for the past few years and I couldn't help but be grateful for that on the young master's behalf but this time, it looks like there is nothing that can't be done." Castor peered at Deo.

Deo knew where this was going.

"Ah… We shouldn't think that their successor won't ever arrive. At any time now, that Decimo brat could arrive here without us knowing." Deo couldn't help but let out a snort, waving his hand dismissively, not even worried that he had just insulted the heir of the most powerful famiglia in the underworld.

"With the invitation, they've given us and to want Kaoru in person, even a blind man could tell just what's about to unfold in the Vongola state in these next few days."

Castor nodded, having the same feeling that Deo has.

They knew their famiglia has been connected to the Vongola for a long time and are considered one of its most trusted allies but to refuse an invitation from them could still mean disrespectful on the Vongola, especially this time, it was rumored the Decimo's era is stronger and almost equal to its founder's time.

This leaves them no choice but to accept their invitation even though they didn't want their young master to be exposed when many of the other power-hunger famiglia want Kaoru.

They still can't afford to make any conflict with the powerful Vongola famiglia since this may result in more trouble for Kaoru.

"So, did the young master agree?" Deo clicked his tongue, crossing his arms and just from that Castor already knew.

His young master agreed.

Castor sighed, he can't help but have a bad feeling specifically this time where things couldn't be avoidable than it had been for the past few years.

He just hopes that things could remain peaceful.

After one of the private jet the Vongola own, safely arrives, members that came to greet the 10th generation, quickly assemble themselves in 2 rows, standing tall and expression showing respect.

After the door opened and the stair was prepared, one by one, the guardians of the 10th generation came out.

The kids, they saw in the past, certainly grew up in their 20's, all of them matured well except for the cloud and the male mist guardians, who were nowhere to be found.

After the last guardians came out, a man's figure walked out through the door of the private jet and judging at his silhouette, they could tell that this person is someone important.

The way he carries himself spoke volumes of what kind of person he is. He stands tall and firm, showing people he's confident, at the same time not at all arrogant, however, he's still someone they shouldn't mess around. His expression, though peaceful and gentle, still expresses the power he holds.

He's none other than the 10th Vongola Boss, Sawada Tsunayoshi.

Timoteo, whose been waiting at the end of the line for his heir, felt that as he gazes more at this young man, he could see the resemblance Tsunayoshi's starting to have with the Vongola Primo, not only in his appearance but with the way he's becoming as he matures as a person.

"It been a while past achievements may have let him see few glimpses of the late Vongola primo but, right now, even without them, Timoteo could already sense he made the right decision to give this man the title and position of handling the most powerful famiglia in the world.

But...

Timoteo can't help and think of a certain family that has been in the underworld far longer than the Vongola.

Even if Tsunayoshi may get the approval of his famiglia and other allies, he's certain that without their support, Tsunayoshi may encounter conflict when it comes to ascertaining his position as the head. Especially, when Vongola primo stated, no matter what time or generation is, the boss of the Vongola needs the approval of this famiglia or else, they could eliminate or remove the candidate from their position even if the Vongola object or not.

If they like the candidate or not, the final decision rest on the leader of this family.

Therefore Timoteo has no choice but to make a move on his part. It worries him because this family's next leader seems to be more reserve than the previous heads. They don't show up much often and they're more guarded.

It's also rumored that they're powerful, almost equivalent to Tsunayoshi's generation however he heard from the current head that they are more unique, completely different from any others it had been in the family.

Timoteo's intuition acted and made him worried than it should be.

Even though he knew that Tsunayoshi and his guardians are powerful, a law is still a law. He doesn't have a choice. They can't act on a whim simply fuel by feelings that they thought Tsunayoshi is more than fit to be the next boss if this family ever tried to object.

The Vongola Family would lose its reputation, at the same time, this could also cause chaos to their allies and the underworld.

With such thinking, Timoteo gave Tsunayoshi a warm greeting and happily greeted the other guardians. No trace of worries could be seen on his face as he escorted them to the Vongola headquarters.

Timoteo could only wish everything would go smoothly.

Having finish taking a bath, Kaoru unconsciously looked at his desk, where an elegant envelope sitting on top with the Vongola seal on it. Picking it up, uncertain doubt spread inside him as he thought of meeting him.

He thought of the time he spent with him, his smile and the warm feeling he always had, made his hand trembled, unconsciously.

Kaoru's mind was split between not wanting to meet him from wanting to see him even for just a little but the thought of losing restraint and wanting him uncontrollably made him hesitate even more.

This continued to plague him until he fell asleep.

He grew more scared of the longing inside him that he had kept for a long time.

Sorry for the short story and the wrong grammar. This is the only chapter I could post for now and for those who have waited for this chapter, I'm sorry that I'm so late in posting this.

*Just for the readers who are curious in who would be seme and uke, you can comment or MS me though the decision would still be mine in the end but telling me your opinion will be of great help and I'll gladly appreciate it.*
