One-shot. Mufasa's thoughts on being a parent as Simba wakes him in the movie. Hope you all enjoy it.

I own nothing. The Lion King and all its content belongs to Disney. I do not own the cover image either.

Warmth cocoons me. It shelters me and makes me feel at peace. Sleep covers me with there wings, making feel relaxed and at bliss as my brain drifts out of consciousness.

My loving wife and mate slumber beside me, her body pressed up to my back, acting as another source of heat for the both of us. Nothing could ever interrupt this wonderful moment of rest, not the sun, not the day coming, not...

"Dad!"

Then there's Simba. My only cub and the light that brightens up my day. Just not right now. Definitely not right now.

"Dad! C'mon dad! We gotta go! Wake up," I hear him call out. I hear a grunt from a lioness nearby and I hear Simba mumble a quick "sorry" before running over to me. Even with my eyes closed I can sense when my son is nearing me.

I hear him slide over and I feel him stop himself by placing his paws on my arms that are currently being used to support my head as I sleep. I just continue snoring, trying to keep his from continuously trying to wake me up.

"Dad? Dad," I hear him say. I can tell he's getting annoyed, but I just do not want to get up now.

I feel slight movement from my right side and I hear the loving, sleepy and teasing voice of my wife saying, "Your son... is awake."

Despite my sleepiness, I still reply to her with, "Before sunrise he is your son." Meanwhile Simba has continually kept saying my name.

"Dad, Dad, Dad, Dad, Dad, Dad, Dad, Dad. C'mon Dad!" I suddenly feel something hard clamp onto my left ear and start pulling. I hear my son groan and pull all the way back before he loses grip and tumbles backwards and hits some bones in the corner of the cave with a loud and surprised "Whoa!"

Hoping to get back t sleep, I begin snoring again, only to feel something ram into my head, forcing me to open one eye to look at my son. He looks angrily at me and says, "You promised!"

Knowing that there's no way to get back to sleep now and the fact that I did promised my son that I would show him the kingdom today, I start to get up. "Okay, okay. I'm up, I'm up," I say quickly.

"Yeah," he says happily and begins to bound towards the den entrance. I stretch out my legs, trying to get rid of the tiredness in them. I yawn and a deep roar comes out. I then ease onto my feet and head towards the exit where my son is already waiting for me, prancing about.

Sarabi follows after me, there to wish us both the best of luck or today. I look back at her as Simba and I begin to ascend the slope heading to the top of Pride Rock. She gives us a smile that makes her look positively radiant in the rising sunrise.

I turn my sight to the horizon. The sun has just begun to show itself over the horizon. By the looks of it we should be at the top of Pride Rock before it begins to illuminate the entire land. I am so glad my son woke me up for now he and I can enjoy the beauty of the land together, and I can get in a lesson for him about being a king, for that is what he will be one day. He will be following in my footsteps that extends a legacy, up to the very first king.

I have a feeling that this will be a most eventful day indeed.

Hope you all enjoyed it! I just wanted to do a story from a parent's point of view about there child and Mufasa being woken up by Simba seemed perfect to me.

Please review and tell me how I did. Sincerely, v.t.7
