Chapter 13: Time's Arrow Part One:
Author's Note: Guess who's back! Yes me! I don't own Star Trek or the characters. Read and review please and enjoy the new chapter!
The episode began with captain's log and offscreen Q mocked the log in a cheap imitations. Worf shot him an angry death glare. The episode precedes with an away team going into a cave to investigate alien presence on earth centuries ago. Data and Picard find an old fashioned pistol.
Q smiles seeming pleased with his thoughts. He "finger bangs" Picard and says, "Oops, didn't mean to kill ya!"
Picard gives him a serious look and Q's smile turns into a frown.
They find a watch next. Something about trilonic waves. They find Data's head and look very surprised and horrified.
"Oooh, what a great fake out!" Q exclaimed, but no one was paying him any attention.
Then the introduction played.
"Do you ever get tired of this?" Q asked.
Picard paused thinking of an appropriate response.
"I kind of like it." Troi commented.
"I didn't ask you!"
"I don't care! I can speak when I wish."
"Danger! Danger! Someone needs to be taken to the brig!"
"Only your face." Riker smiled slyly.
Q shook his head and turned his attention to the screen.
The episode continued with them discovering Data's head is really Data's head. Data speculated that he is to die in the nineteenth century.
"Fake out, fake out, fake out, fake out! Can't you believe this fake out!" Q sung.
"Do you ever know when to shut up, Q?" Riker asked.
"Nope."
The episode continued. Geordi and Data were in Ten Forward discussing Data's "death". Data explains why it feels comforting.
"I hope you find what you were looking for, Data." Troi said sadly.
When Data leaves, Guinan comes in. She speaks to Geordi a little and says "Full circle."
Offscreen, Q mutters, "Witch," But no one acknowledges him which is a bit frustrating for him.
The episode continued with Riker and Troi talking about Data. Troi explains how Data described friendship.
"As I experience sensory imput patterns, my mental pathways become accustomed to them. Imputs are eventually anticipated and even missed when absent."
"Sounds a lot like Data." Dr. Crusher commented.
Q smiled. The episode went on with Data confused with the way people are behaving around him, for example, people tending to stop conversations when he arrives. Riker and Troi explain to Data that they care. Data is disappointed about not being taken with the away team. He and Picard talk and Picard is okay with trying to cheat fate because he doesn't want Data to die.
"Aw, you all care." Q said seeming to talk down to them.
"Of course we all care. Data was our friend." Troi said and everyone nodded in agreement.
On the surface, Troi senses life forms in fear and that they are likely human. With discussion, Picard allows Data to join the away team. Data phases enough to see the life forms. They "lose" Data. Data awakens in the nineteenth century where he meets a fortyniner. Data then meets with a man who works at an hotel and discovers a chance to make funds by playing poker.
Offscreen, Riker chimed, "Go, Data! The high roller!"
Data wins and Riker smiles happily, "Seems like he learned a lot from the master!"
"What? How to lose?" Q mocked.
"He won that match!"
"And somehow you think you've won."
"I don't think-"
Worf gave them a look which shut them both up. The episode went on with Data giving the hotel man a good tip and a list of supplies. The aliens get the fortyniner. On the ship, they eventually speculated that they may die with Data. Picard talks with Guinan and Guinan says they'll never meet if Picard doesn't go on this away mission.
Meanwhile, Data is making what is thought to be an engine for a horseless carriage (known in the twenty first century as a car). The hotel man wants to help Data sell it but, of course, Data refuses. Hotel man gives Data a pastry wrapped in a newspaper and leaves. Data discovers a picture of Guinan in the newspaper.
In the episode, Guinan speaks with Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain).
"No fair! I want to- no really want to have meet Mark Twain and the witch gets to talk to him?! No fair! No fair! No fair!" Q protests stomping his feet like a child.
Troi smiles.
"And you're amused about all this?! Great day for me!"
The episode goes on with Guinan and Clemens talking about astrological theories. Data interrupts and Guinan escorts him outside before he can say too much.
"Know who talks more than I do?" Q asked offscreen.
"Nobody," Riker answered.
Everyone but Worf and Q laughed. Guinan and Data talk but not in total privacy as they thought. They discover Clemens eavesdropping.
"Uh oh... someone's in trouble now!" Q commented.
The episode went on with Worf going back to the bridge.
"Good thing Worf didn't come with you. He would be uglier back then than he is now." Q commented.
Worf punches Q, breaking his nose, but Q merely chuckles and uses his powers to fix it.
In the episode, they phase and discover what Troi calls an imprint of the last moments of human life. Then the aliens come and deliver more "souls". The first part of the two part episode, ended with the crew following the aliens into the nineteenth century.
