"You're being clingy."
"Not more than usual."
I huff, "Definitely more than usual."
Gabriel has been like a puppy. Following every step and turn I make recently. It's been less of him popping in and out, more of waking up every day to him asking why I have to sleep so much.
"Look," he puts his hands up in defense, "just say the word and I'll get los-"
"The word."
He dead pans at me, then jerks open the coffee shop door. A small bell chimes while baristas inside welcome us.
"Couldn't even let me finish?"
"Maybe some other time," I step inside and embrace the strong smell of coffee. Gabriel hums something about my response and choice of wording. I choose to focus on the coffee specials detailed on the chalkboard.
"You've been busy lately, that's all." Gabriel huffs next to me, very closely. His eyes trail around the shop before looking directly at me, "Always on the phone. Long work hours..." His eyes glance around again.
"Geez. The drama level is really getting kicked up today, isn't it?" I step up in line and smile at the perky barista.
"What can we get started for you today?"
"Vanilla latte with almond milk."
"Switching up your coffee order...", Gabriel sighs, " just tell me if there's someone else. Who's the other guy?"
I groan and furrow my brows.
"Thank you," you shove the cash from you wallet into the tip jar, "I'm sorry you have to see him rehearsing lines. Very dramatic and talented, this one."
"You're no fun anymore~" Gabriel turns his nose away from me.
"Hey," I whisper sharply at him as we wait for my order to be called, "Can you cool it, for five minutes? I said you could go with me to get coffee. And here we are. On a coffee adventure." I cross my arms.
"I feel like your travel dog. I'm just here as an accessory."
You laugh a bit and his eyes spark at you change in demeanor. He really has been an accessory lately.
"You don't have to act as my emotional support dog."
He scoffs and shrugs, "I'm along for the ride at this point, Sugar."
My heart flutters a bit at the nick name. It's been a minute since I've heard it.
The walk back to the hotel is quiet. It's nice. Our arms bump against each other. Gabriel occasionally points out other dogs we pass by, asking if he's doing a better job than they are. I'm beyond used to the watchful eye Gabriel has kept on me lately.
It's impossible to ignore his peaked interest when you answer calls relating to Dean.
The wind picks up sends out a few howling notes. I take in a deep breath and allow the coffee adventure to settle in before exhaling. The thought of going back to book work when you get to the room is...daunting. I'd rather stretch my muscles.
But going back to the makeshift library also means going back to Gabriel staying by your side. I'm not sure what he's waiting for.
"It's nice," I twist the door open and begin to settle into the area piled with books, "to know you're here."
That seems to hit Gabriel. His lips turn upward as he plops down in a chair next to me, "well woof."
I begin my study session. Writing down various topics. Switching over to my laptop. Back over to another book. Did I already read this one? Yeah, I did. It gets tossed into a pile. A faint buzzing sound is heard.
"Must be a fly in here," Gabriel waves his hands around, I scoff.
"Good boy," I push through some papers and journals to find my phone.
"Olivia," Bobby's rough voice is softer than normal, "I've been trying to reach you all day."
"Bobby," I sighed as I spoke his name, "I can't make it up there right now. It'll be a couple extra days. "
Gabriel gives me a thumbs up. I waved a dismissive hand and stand to begin sifting through the bookcase. Gabriel gives a thumbs down at this.
"Olivia, now's not the time to be-"
"I really can't. I'll send Sam the stuff I've found but I don't have the time to drive up to you guys for a pow wow."
"Show him who's boss`" Gabriel coos while leaning back in his chair. My eyes roll in response before making my way back to the desk. Another night of endless reading.
The smell of old books has begun to nauseate me. Bobby clears his throat. I can tell he's getting puffy on the other end. What for? When was the last time I even spoke to the guys? Clearly I missed calls from Bobby today. Life has been nose deep in books to find any possibility of getting Dean out of his ticket to hell-
"Dean is dead."
"What?"
The book falls from my grasp. I land in the chair and try to swallow harshly. Gabriel watches every move. This is what he'd been waiting to deal with.
Authors Note:
I'm back?
It's confusing.
I kept seeing emails about reviews and follows. I logged on and was surprised at how regularly people read this. I'm amazed. I'm sorry I put this off in a vault some time ago (asdfghjk 2016 oct 31st but who's keeping track)
I'm touching on this character again because I forgot how much I love her. If you amazing lovely people keep reading I will try my best to wrap up an ending to this story at some point.
