Substitute

"Have you seen the new substitute for Astronomy? She is hot hot hot," Frank murmured at the Gryffindor table, getting the interest of Sirius and Peter. James was too busy feeding Lily to take much notice and Remus had his head buried in a book.

"How hot are we talking, Frank?" Sirius asked, raising his eyebrow in interest. "Are we talking McKinnon hot? Or like..." his eyes scanned the room. They landed on the blonde he'd taken to the Yule Ball the month before. "Vanity hot?"

"Hotter."

"Oh, man," Sirius whispered, eyes lighting up like a Christmas tree. "How old?"

"Not much older than us," Frank confirmed. "In fact, I recognise the name. I think she was head girl in our...third year? Professor Morgan. So, Jessica Morgan, right?"

Sirius grinned. "I remember her. She was stunning."

Remus looked up from his book long enough to roll his eyes. "We have Astronomy tonight," he reminded Sirius.

"So we do. A beautiful evening to go and look at the stars, eh, Moony?"

"My name is Professor Morgan, I'll be your substitute while Professor Mercury is indisposed. Now -"

"Professor?"

"Yes, Mr -?"

"Black, Professor, but please, call me Sirius. I just wanted to say how lovely it was to have you back here. You were Head Girl in our third year, right?"

Remus rolled his eyes at Sirius, and James laughed, quickly covering it was a cough.

"Serious. Right. Yes I was, thank you. Now..."

James didn't manage to cover his laugh this time, and Professor Morgan gave him a dirty look. Sirius looked completely shocked at not only the mangling of his name, but the lack of attention. He wasn't used to being turned down by women.

He sat patiently until the end of class, glad that Moony, would be taking notes (and he was a perfectionist, so they'd be absolutely word perfect) because he hadn't heard a single word she said. When the rest of the class shuffled out the door, covering yawns with the backs of their hands, Sirius remained behind.

"Professor Morgan?"

"Serious? What's wrong? Is there something you didn't understand?"

"Well, you see Professor, I mean, my name is Sirius, but anyway -"

"That's what I've been saying, isn't it? Look, is this important? I've got to floo-call my girlfriend?"

"Oh... um.. no. It can wait. Have a good night, Professor."

James and Remus each wrapped an arm around the forlorn looking Sirius as they walked back to Gryffindor Tower.

"Don't worry mate, we'll always love you."
