Leah woke to the sound of her phone ringing incessantly and her body protested moving with how sore it felt. The memory of the training Jasper had put her through made her groan and flop over in her bed. She flailed her right arm, blindly searching for her still ringing phone.

"Yeah" Leah answered in a muffled voice, refusing to remove her face from the pillow

"Hello darling" Janet chuckled at her mate's obvious sour morning mood

Leah pulled herself up onto her elbows and found herself feeling self-conscious after how things ended the day before.

"Janet, hey" Leah closed her eyes in embarrassment at her response as soon as it left her lips

"Hey…" Janet paused as the words she had spent the night thinking of saying flew from her mind as if they never existed

There was a couple of seconds of awkward silence that felt like an eternity to both of them. After what felt like forever they both blurted out "I'm sorry" shocking each other and leading to both of them bursting out laughing.

"I'm sorry for the way I acted love, I guess I am not as ready for all the bumps of our relationship as I thought I would be." Janet confessed after the two shared a more comfortable silence following the laughter.

"It's okay and look I'm just as guilty of thinking I have a grasp on this whole supernatural lifestyle when really I've only been a part of it for a couple of months." Leah took responsibility for her own fault in their misunderstanding.

"We should really sit down and talk this out and get to know each other more than we have. With the threat of the army gone maybe we can finally take our time with our relationship and do this all the right way." Janet pointed out with a new air of cheerfulness that had been missing since the beginning of the conversation.

"Definitely, why don't we make plans to see each other later today? I have patrol tonight but I'm free the rest of the day." Leah suggested while she pulled herself out of bed and began to get ready for the day.

"Yes! Absolutely! We could go for a walk or we could go see this new movie I heard about online," Janet began to ramble about all the things the two of them could do together and Leah just smiled indulgently. She didn't really care as long as she was with Janet it would all be great in her book.

Leah skipped down the stairs while still listening to Janet ramble and gave her input every now and again. It seemed like Janet had already been planning a couple of outings for them over the past couple of days. She didn't notice her family was watching her as she prepared a plate of the food her mother had made with a dorky smile on her face.

Seth wiggled his eyebrows at his mom who swatted his arms with a half-hearted scowl on her face. He just laughed and waited for Leah to say goodbye to Janet and head for the table before he started in on her.

"Was that Janet?" He asked in a teasing tone and wiggled his eyebrows again earning him another swat from his mother.

"Leave her alone you" Leah's mother reprimanded and passed Leah the basket of fresh biscuits.

"Just wait until you get an imprint, we'll see how you act" Leah warned teasingly as she brandished a biscuit threateningly.

"Okay enough of that," Sue Clearwater intervened and watched as her children laughed and bantered back and forth like they used to. It felt like the first real family breakfast they had had since her husband had passed. Things were still not one hundred percent and they might never be, but she knew that they were at least on their way to something close.

"OKAY! EMERGENCY!" Janet declared in a barely contained nervous voice that garnered the attention of her family who was gathered in the living room.

"What is it dove?" Jasper asked after checking her emotions for any immediate distress and finding none.

"Leah and I are going out today and spending the day together before she has to go on patrol tonight and I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO WEAR" Janet cried at the end of her rant with pulling at the ends of her hair. Jasper just huffed out a grunt as Alice shot up from her seat next to him, using him as leverage for momentum.

"This is an emergency! Come Rosalie, we have so much work to do. How can she just throw this at you last minute?..." Alice continued to rave as the three girls rushed up to Janet's room for some serious date night prep.

In Janet's room they stood in front of her closet like they were about to go into war, again.

"What time are you guys going out?" Rosalie asked with a look of serious consideration

"At noon" Janet revealed and cringed at the shocked looks of her aunts

"We only have four hours to work?" Alice asked feigning feeling faint with the back of her hand on her forehead

"This mutt better appreciate the work we are about to do" Rosalie grumbled as all the girls began to take clothes out of the closet.

"Aunt Rose, please" Janet reprimanded in exasperation at her aunt's term for the wolves

"Sorry sweet pea" Rosalie apologized but everyone knew that the term would come out again at some point in the future

"Wait! We need some music to give us some inspiration" Alice skipped over to where Janet had her sound system set up and selected a song for their fashion extravaganza they were about to do.

"Okay, great! Let's get started" Janet giggled and twirled in place as she let her excitement course through her freely.

It had only been a couple of days since their first date, but it felt like a lifetime ago and now that the threat was gone, they had more time for each other. Now they could both just focus on their relationship and maybe finally act like the young adults that they were. The world seemed like such a backwards and topsy-turvy place now that things had calmed down some.

There was still tensions in the house on account of uncle Edward's girlfriend's mortality. But that had nothing to do with Janet at the end of the day and even if it did, she was too busy enjoying herself to care.

"Dress!"

"Jeans"

Alice and Rosalie stared at each other in challenge at their opinions being questioned by the other.

"It's just a movie and then a walk maybe down the trails or through the town" Janet explained as she tried on another shirt and discarded the one she had been trying on.

"Every moment with someone you love is more than just a moment. It is always a gift and should be treated as the precious jewel it is." Alice clarified with a dreamy romantic voice as she pulled a white and blue flannel shirt.

"You're such a romantic Alice" Rosalie complained while laying out five different pairs of shoes for Janet to try on.

"Well someone has to be Rose or where would we be" Alice retorted back as she tossed aside a skirt she pulled out of the closet.

"These riding boots are cute" Rosalie complimented as she pulled them out of their box and showed them to girls.

"Oh! With some jeans and that flannel shirt, it will be perfect!" Alice gushed as she began to rummage through the jewelry to match it.

Janet took the boots into her hands from her aunt gently and looked at them with a gentle smile on her face. They had been from her father last Christmas and she had yet to wear them, but it seemed like the perfect occasion now.

"It's perfect you guys" Janet declared as she saw the look come together.

"Great now let's see about your hair" Alice stated as she held up the flat iron she had brought out.

***********************At The Same Time *******************************

"If you would hold still this wouldn't be so hard" Emily complained as she pulled Leah's head back into place as she brushed her hair out again.

"I don't have that much hair I don't know what all you have to fix or straighten- ow! Emily!" Leah complained as her hair was tugged on again by her cousin.

"Your hair is a rat's nest, when was the last time that you brushed it or did anything to it for that matter?" Emily complained as she parted Leah's hair for the hairdo she was going to do.

"Why bother? It'll be messed up again when I shift back anyway." Leah reasoned followed by an annoyed grunt as her hair was pulled again

"At least you can say Janet has seen you at your worst already" Emily teased as she began to straighten Leah's hair and get her ready for her date.

"Very funny" Leah rolled her eyes at her cousin's antics

A slightly awkward silence descended upon the two as they both thought about the last time the two were in this position last. It had been Leah going on her first date with Sam and she had gone to her best friend, Emily. So much had changed over the years and a lot of relationships had changed as well along the way. Life was complex and strange in the way things turn out in the end.

"I'm glad you have found happiness you know" Emily decided to break the silence in the end

"Thanks" Leah turned over a lip gloss in her hands when she couldn't find the words to say to her once best friend. Does she say that she is glad for her too? Does she mean it? A lot of questions were arising more frequently and causing her to self-analyze. It would have all been so easy if she didn't feel everything so much more intensely than others. Things like past hurts are hard to get over when they bring with them so many emotions.

"I was hoping you and I could go out tomorrow for some ice cream and talk about your date… like old times" Emily suggested a bit apprehensively with hope that they could rekindle their friendship.

"I'll think about it…I just…I need some time" Leah confessed as she let them fall back into silence. She was not going to lie and let them go back to how it was when she knew it would never go back to how it once was. Time moved forward and no amount of praying or hoping would change the way things turned out.

Leah did feel bad in someway for Emily since she never asked for any of this but at the same time neither did Leah. None of it was fair but they had to make do with the cards life had dealt them. Now that Leah had found her imprint didn't mean the past had been erased and they could all live happily ever after.

"Thanks for helping me" Leah offered Emily an olive branch in that thank you and hoped it was enough for now.

"You're welcome" Emily smiled and settled to wait for as long as it took to earn her cousin's forgiveness.

Jasper stood on the porch of the Cullen house and watched as Leah drove up in her truck. His expression was stoic but then again it always seemed to be that way. Leah gulped as her sore muscles from that morning reminded her of what Jasper was capable of. The training he had put her through was so much worse than what the pack did. To be fair he had decades to perfect while the pack were a bunch of teens playing adults.

"Hey…um Sir?" Leah was really confused as to how to treat her future father in law turned trainer.

"Leah" Jasper smirked and nodded his head in acknowledgement then gestured for her to enter the house.

"Thanks" She walked into the living room and saw most of the family sitting doing various activities.

"Hello Leah, I don't believe we formally met I'm Esme and this is Carlisle, and Emmet; Edward is not here right now, but you will formally meet him later I presume." Esme introduced everyone as she pulled a surprised Leah in for a hug and kiss on the cheek.

"Um… nice to meet you" Leah replied awkwardly as she stepped away from the affectionate woman.

"Looks like even with vamp speed girls make you wait" Emmet teased loud enough for Janet and the girls to hear.

"I think I am supposed to take offence to that" Leah spoke up with a smirk playing on her lips as she heard three pairs of feet descend the stairs.

"We all take offence to that comment Emmet" Alice sniped as she came down the stairs first and went to stand by Jasper.

Rosalie didn't say anything but the look she game Emmet was message enough to let him and everyone know she didn't like his comment. She went to stand by her 'parents' and ignored Emmet's attempt to take her hand causing everyone to chuckle or smile at their antics.

Leah smirked at them but when she turned to the sound of steps on the stairs her smile disappeared, and her world stood still. Janet paused at the last step and made eye contact with her mate. They both took in each other's outfit and just enjoyed the other's presence even though they had an audience. It took them a moment to snap out of their daze and smile timidly at each other while Leah closed the distance between them.

"Hello" Janet greeted as she slipped her hand in Leah's when she reached out to her.

"Hey" Leah smiled brightly at her mate and gave her hand a squeeze.

"Wow, what a moment to ruin" Emmet laughed as he threw his arms around both girls' shoulders.

"Emmet leave them alone" Esme scolded and swatted his arm causing his to grab it in faux hurt.

"Come on we better get going if we want to make the movie" Janet urged and pulled Leah towards the door as fast as she could without using her vamp speed. Leah just chuckled fondly and allowed herself to be pulled along while the family called their goodbyes.

Janet allowed the excited grin to take over her face as she settled into the passenger seat. This was going to be their first date finally and there didn't seem to be anything wrong in their lives to mess it up at the moment. Life felt like it was falling into place for the first time since she set off on her own to travel the world. There was a purpose to her existence and her name was Leah.

As Leah drove to the small theater in town, they both talked about anything and everything. Nothing too serious or deep was brought up yet since they both wanted to just take it slow like a first date should be. There was so much outside influence in their lives that they wanted to have this just for them. These moments of laughter and heart skipping sweetness would stay with them for years to come.

Leah sighed contentedly when the both of them stopped laughing and she pulled the truck to a stop outside the movie theater. It was a beautiful clear night and the moon was nearly full as it hung majestically in the sky. It reminded Leah of the night she took Janet to the clearing where they had their first kiss. There was an atmosphere of peace that fell on the girls as they looked at each other in the silence of the truck.

"Thank you" Janet whispered in a voice full of too many emotions.

"For what?" Leah whispered back with a bemused but adoring look on her face.

"For giving us a chance" Janet explained and placed her hand gently on Leah's cheek as a tender smile spread across her lips

"Thank you for giving me the choice" Leah whispered and then brought Janet's hand to her lips to place a kiss on her palm.

They stared into each other's eyes for a long moment before Leah turned Janet's hand and kissed the back of it and smiled happily.

"Let's go have that first date and do all the couply stuff we want to do." Leah suggested with a wink as she slipped out of her door to go open the door for Janet.

"You know you don't have to do that" Janet rolled her eyes as Leah held out her hand to help her out of the car.

"You know you are going to be the same way when you drive next time. So, you can't complain" Leah teased knowingly which Janet only stuck her tongue out as a retort.

Leah laughed and threw her arm around Janet's shoulders and they walked towards the theater with happy smiles on their faces.

Laughter filled the late-night air as the pair of girls walked through the town center after the movie. The streets were almost completely empty as they strolled and elongated their date.

"It was a cute ending; I love illusions and all that mystic stuff that has been growing over the decades." Janet said as she hopped onto the lip of the fountain they were walking around.

They had just watched The Illusionist which had Leah wondering what she would do to be able to be happy with Janet. As Janet hummed and balanced around the fountain, Leah smiled lovingly and knew her answer; anything.

"Want to go somewhere else?" Leah asked and held out her hand for Janet, their date was far from over.

"Where we goin'?" Janet asked and her southern accent started to peak through with how happy she was.

Leah just smiled as she pulled Janet back towards the truck and felt her heart warm with the honey dew accent Janet let slip. It was hard for Janet to let out her southern belle sometimes because it made her feel vulnerable. But Leah did not mind since she knew that it would take them each sometime before they were ready to bare themselves completely. They had all eternity so there was no rush.

Janet filled the ride to their next destination with tales of old illusionists she had seen and met over the years. Leah just listened and only commented when she needed to, she was content to listen to Janet's voice for the rest of her life.

"Wow" Janet whispered as she saw the waters of the reservation beach come into view.

"It's a beautiful night for stargazing, if you want" Leah explained as she gestured to the clear night sky.

"I'd love to!" Janet sped out of the truck and into the bed of the truck that Leah just laughed.

After she grabbed the blanket she had packed, Leah walked back to see Janet standing and starring at the sky while being bathed in the pale light of the moon and stars. There was no doubt in Leah's mind that this creature was a divine being sent to bless all those who see her.

"It's breathtaking" Janet said on a sigh as she turned to make eye contact with her mate and lost herself.

They stood there staring into each other for the longest time and their soul seemed to breath a sigh of relief as if saying 'there you are'. The smile that lit up Janet's face would forever be etched into Leah's heart and soul.

"Come on" Janet held out her hand for Leah without either braking eye contact the whole time.

Leah took her hand and was hauled up so the two stood together under the stars and with the sounds of the waves kissing the sand. They each leaned close to each other and Janet closed her eyes as she felt lips on her forehead with heart wrenching tenderness. Leah took her head into her hands and held her as she bent to lean her forehead against hers.

"I Love You" She whispered

"I Love You" Janet whispered back

And in the magic of the night they shared their first kiss of true love and tied their souls together for all of time.

A/N: Sorry for taking so long but I couldn't write the perfect date no matter how hard I tried but this is the best I could do. Tell me what you think please.
