I Do Not Own Devil Wears Prada

Miranda Priestly was an expert at manipulating people, of getting them to do what she wanted. With most people, she could do this simply with her attitude, wealth, and power in the fashion industry. Sometimes, such with Irv's recent attempt to supplant her, she had to get a little more creative.

She would never admit it, but she liked Andrea.

Her now former assistant was stubborn, opinionated, and an excellent worker.

And if she stayed at Runway, the Fashion world would destroy her.

Miranda knew just how hard it was to survive in the fashion world. Models lost jobs on the basis of a few pounds. Designers lost companies when their imaginations died. And it demanded constant work.

She'd lost three husbands and missed much of her daughter's childhoods in order to succeed.

But while Miranda herself loved fashion, lived it and breathed it, Andrea's dream wasn't in fashion.

Staying at Runway would crush her dreams.

And so when Miranda turned on those steps of Paris to see her assistant had vanished, she almost wanted to grin. She then tried to call the girl just to confirm her suspicions.

When Andrea didn't answer, Miranda knew her assistant was gone.

Her words in the car had their desired purpose. While true, she did see much of herself in Andrea, she knew that vocalizing that observation would drive her assistant away, especially after what she had just done to Nigel.

She was the Ice Queen, La Priestly, the Devil in Prada who demanded the impossible. Being compared to her would almost be as bad as being compared to Jack the Ripper, especially to a principled girl like Andrea.

Now Andrea could pursue her dreams. Miranda would ensure she got a good reference.

And when she got back to New York, she'd finish her work to get Irv Ravitz kicked off the board. Once that was done, she'd be able to convince Elias-Clarke to launch a new magazine, Mens Runway.

She knew Nigel would make an excellent Editor-in-Chief for the magazine.
