The Boy on the Swing
A Doctor Who and Harry Potter Cross-over

When Harry Potter first met the Doctor, he wasn't known as the Doctor. He was known by the school as Mr. John Smith, the freaky caretaker. Of course, Harry didn't think he was all that freaky, seeing as most people called him a freak, and Harry didn't think the caretaker was like Harry at all.

Most people never saw Harry, though Harry didn't really understand why. Which is why, when Mr. Smith asked Harry what he was doing all by his lonesome out on the playground after all the children had went in, Harry couldn't answer. Harry, instead, ran off and slipped into the library.

It wasn't until two days later that Harry gathered up the courage to say hello to the caretaker. The older man was busy doing something caretaker-y with his flash-light-stick near one of the air vents when Harry made his way past the other children to say greet the man.

Harry was oh so happy when the caretaker said "Good morning" in response.

When the monster appeared, Harry felt very much glad that he was seemingly invisible.

He was super happy when the caretaker made it go away, along Miss Oswald and Mr. Pink (Harry liked his class, Maths was ever so fun.)

But then that caretaker had to go away, and that made Harry very sad.

It wasn't until a few years later (though it seemed so much longer and shorter all at once to young Harry) that Harry Potter met the Doctor for a second time.

"Hello Harry Potter, what are you doing out here on the playground all by your lonesome? All the other children have gone home for the day, would you like for me to take you home?"

Harry smiled at the Doctor (though he didn't know the nice man by that name.)

Harry would like to go home, and the caretaker seemed like a man who could take him that very long journey.

It wasn't until his trip with Clara to the underwater mining facility that the Doctor remember the little boy setting alone on the swing set at Clara's school.

So, when the day was saved, and Clara safe, the Doctor took to investigating the little boy.

He found mention of only one little boy who fit the description.

So the Doctor went for a house call.

It was quiet, and slightly chilly, for an August day. The Doctor stood beside a little boy with messy black hair and emerald green eyes.

In front of the duo, sat a stone.

On this stone was etched the name of a little boy, a little boy that nobody noticed.

"Time to go home, Harry Potter." The Doctor murmured comfortingly.

The little boy smiled up at the Doctor, and faded into the breeze.

The plot idea comes from the combination of watching season 9, eps 3 and 4, and an idea of what if the Dursley abuse went too far. This also places the Harry Potter story as taking place prior to its cannon telling.
