AN: Hey folks, I'm sorry I left you hanging for a while, but at least I didn't do it on a cliffhanger. It took me a bit to figure out how to get to where I wanted this story to go. There, it's extra long ;)
So, here we go.
"Malia Arianna Torres, you better be down here and ready to go within the next five minutes, or I am leaving without you!", Callie hollered from where she stood at the bottom of the stairs, her fingers impatiently drumming against the wooden railing while she gave her niece the final warning. She had huge plans for today and she was in no position to allow the little whirlwind to be the reason for any tardiness. Sometimes the firefighter wondered if the young Latina would someday grow out of her habit of getting ready last minute. But she remembered how her father had said the same thing about Arias when he was still a boy, and her brother had turned out just fine. "MALIA!" Her voice boomed through the house after not hearing any sort of confirmation from her niece. And just as she wanted to yell upstairs again, the girl appeared properly dressed and tying an elastic hair tie around the end of her braid. "You got quite good at that", Callie complemented her niece, she simply could not be mad with the girl.
"I had an awesome teacher", Malia stated proudly, smoothing over some of the unruly strands of hair which had fallen out of the French braid. "But Arizona is still the best at it." A statement that was very much the truth. Whenever Arizona had a head full of hair to work with, she did some sort of next level braiding and Malia's friends often envied her. "How do I look?", she asked, twirling around in front of her tia.
Callie had no words. Had she not been a witness to this moment, she would not believe it. Malia, all dressed up in a tailored uniform that matched her own, looked like the perfect mix of her late brother and sister-in-law, but also a lot like a copy of herself. "Perfect", she replied softly and opened her arms for a hug. When she let go, she straightened out both hers and her niece's clothes before she asked, "Ready to go?"
"Born ready!"
Callie stifled a laugh. She could not quite put a finger to when Malia changed – it was roughly around the time Arizona had become a constant person in both their lives – but her niece was much more outgoing and much happier these days. Sure, there were still rough days both of them experienced. Sometimes the loss put too much weight on those slim shoulders and neither Callie nor the blonde had the ability to take away her sorrow. The grieve would never completely disappear and a part of Callie did not want it to, she made sure to visit the grave and take Malia with her every time. They watched family videos together and Callie told stories about her niece's parents and grandparents. It was important to her that Malia knew her roots and cherished the memories she had – even if that resulted in moody and sad moments. But since Arizona was back in their lives, those moments didn't last as long as they used to. For Callie, the blonde was her anchor and together they did their best to make Malia happy.
"Tia Callie, come on", the young brunette urged.
The tug on her sleeve in combination with her name pulled the adult Latina out of her thoughts. "I'm coming", she chuckled. There was no denying that her girlfriend was rubbing off on her niece. Grabbing her keys, she took one last look in the mirror that hung on the wall near the door and then her eyes fell on the picture of their deceased family members that was meticulously placed on the dresser with a vase of fresh flowers next to it.
** flashback, three years ago **
"You are stupid, Callita. You are behaving like an utter idiot and our parents did not raise idiots. Our father would give you an earful, if he was still alive", Arias Torres scolded his sister, even though she was past tipsy and probably would not remember most of this conversation in the morning. Instead she would still be feeling the burn of Bourbon in her throat and a mighty headache to go with it. "Are you really willing to throw everything away?"
"She wants kids, Arias. Kids, as in more than one. And I can't make the promise to give her one in the future. I never wanted kids, I want to be a firefighter. I want to save lives without worrying about making it home." Her words – albeit more slurred than thirty minutes ago – and therefor her view on this topic had not changed.
He sat down on the couch next to her. "I understand that, hermanita", he said. Having a kid, someone that depends on you, it was a scary thought. "But are you really sure that you want to let Arizona go because of this? You put up a huge fight when our father didn't approve of your relationship and pleaded with him to give it a chance, to see it your way and to accept you for who you are. And you are great with Malia, she adores you. Maybe it's time for you to give this image of a future a chance and see where Arizona is coming from. And maybe, just maybe, down the road you'll want a family of your own, too."
Callie held the glass to her face and swirled it around, the amber colored liquid shimmering in the light that came from the flames crackling in the fireplace. "I don't want kids, period. The last time I saw myself having kids was twelve years ago and I don't see that changing any time soon. And I can't keep stringing her along with the prospect of maybe someday changing my mind. That is not fair, to either of us." Downing the last of her drink, she reached for the bottle for a refill, but her brother's hand was faster than hers.
"I think you've had enough for tonight, Callita." He stood up and locked their father's bar before pulling out the key and letting it slide into the pockets of his pants. "Just think about it before you do something impulsively, something you will regret for the rest of your life." He turned to leave the room but stopped for a moment, feeling sympathetic for his sister. The love she and her fiancée shared was everybody's dream and some people only got to read about a love like this. He sincerely hoped Callie would change her mind. "Remember, even papá said that Arizona was the one for you."
** end of flashback **
"I am finally going to make it right, daddy, I promise."
Blue eyes glanced around her hospital room as Arizona did a quick braid on her own hair, making sure she had every single one of her belongings piled on the bed before she started to pack her gym bag. The thing when being shot in the thigh is, you don't want to move around more than necessary. Which she had not planned on, but wanting to be on her way out of the hospital the moment she got discharged left her no other choice. But now she was back to sitting on the bed, the uninjured leg bent at the knee and the other one resting on a pillow, and she finally began to pack. "Come in!", she answered the knock on the door to her room, hoping it was either Callie who would indubitably help her, or the doctors with papers for her to sign.
"Hey Robs", April greeted her friend and paramedic in charge upon entering the room. "Oh good, you're packing already! Can't wait to get out of here, can you?" The red-head could relate. Usually being the one who brought people to the hospital to get treatment, she was not a fan of staying longer than absolutely inevitable. Especially when she was the one being admitted to the hospital. But even more importantly, she had been assigned with the task to bring Arizona safely where Callie needed her to be in roughly an hour and a half. "Do you need any help?"
Looking up, Arizona took the first look at her friend, who was dressed less casually than she would normally be on an ordinary day. But she brushed it aside, assuming April had lunch plans with Jackson and his obscenely rich parents and a very expensive restaurant. "I think I got it, Keps, but thank you", the blonde replied before blowing a loose strand out of her face. Having learned from her father – a military man through and through – how to pack everything in order and organized, it really didn't take Arizona that long. "I'm gonna ask her to marry me!", she blurted out all of a sudden, holding the neatly folded pajama bottoms in her hand as she stopped mid-move.
Hazel eyes widened in surprise. "Okay?"
"I mean, it's not too soon, right? We've been engaged before and we have lived together before", the blonde defended and her packing style changed from organized to chaotic as she kept on talking, "and, I know that didn't work out as we thought it would, but things are different now. I never stopped loving her. She still loves me and we both love Malia. And good God, we all know this kid needs a stable family and people who love her. But that's not why I want to marry her. I mean, it is, but it's not the only reason. I don't even need a stupid piece of paper to prove that we love each other. But after almost losing her, after she almost lost me, I don't want to waste another day. Heck, it's like the time we were broken up didn't even happen, and we just continued our past relationship. Maybe we just had to hit pause for a while to really know what we want and I want to marry Calliope Torres." Chancing a look at her friend, Arizona was relieved to see a smile instead of April looking at her like she had grown a second head. "It's not stupid?"
April shook her head, "Absolutely not", she affirmed and raised her hand, showing her friend the engagement ring that adorned her ring finger. "Guess Jackson felt the same way."
"April!", Arizona squealed and clapped her hands. "That is great news! If my movement wasn't limited right now, I would jump up with joy and give you one of the biggest hugs. But I can't do that, so you gotta get over here and help me out." She put everything down and let April help her stand to embrace the red-head. "Congratulations." Letting go of the other woman, she grabbed her hand, wanting to inspect the ring up close. "Holy-" The blonde had no words when she saw the diamond sitting on top of the golden band. "That must have cost a fortune."
"Perks of being born into a rich family, I suppose", the red-head shrugged. She disliked talking about money that was not hers to talk about. Years ago, when she first developed a crush for the hot firefighter with the pretty eyes, April did not know that Jackson was member of the wealthy Avery family. And when she found out, she was hesitant at first. Her roots stemmed from a farm in Ohio where she learned everything she needed and where skills meant more than money. She adapted to having a boyfriend that didn't need to worry about money, but was also glad that Jackson was not one to splurge on everything. "It looks a little big on my hand", she admitted, "but that doesn't mean that I didn't cry when he proposed."
This, Arizona understood all too well. When Callie popped the question years back, she stood no chance of holding back the tears. The brunette had created the perfect atmosphere with hundreds of lit candles on the ground, a bouquet of red roses in her left hand and the velvet box in the other. The Latina had really gone all out. "I need to plan something big for Callie, and I need you to help me."
April focused on the road in front of her and Arizona was talking her ears off in the passenger seat, shooting her ideas for the perfect proposal plan and all the red-head did was nod and throw in some 'oohs' and 'aahs', keeping her eyes on the road so she would not accidentally give away the secret plan she was part of. She could see most of Arizona's ideas playing out – except for the one where the blonde planned on proposing at Disney World. Callie's niece would have the time of her life, but she once overheard a conversation between Callie and Mark about how she hated roller coasters and water rides and everything that came with amusement parks. Especially the long lines to wait in and the cliché proposals you could find on the internet.
"Or, I could make a scavenger hunt game out of it, I bet Malia would love that", Arizona mused excitedly, picturing how she roped the young Latina into her plan and swear her to secrecy. "Or maybe, I could surprise her with a little vacation. She needs it, and so do I. Maybe just one night out of town, or two. And we could go for a romantic walk and whenever I can go down on my knees again without screaming in agony, I can ask- Keps, you just missed our exit." She looked back through the window, checking if she had missed a sign that the exit was blocked or some other reason for April to keep driving ahead. "Keps, where are we going? I really just want to go home and snuggle up with my girls."
"You will, I promise. I just need to drop off something before and I have a deadline to meet." She shivered at her own words, knowing she easily sounded like a drug smuggler or whatever illegal things went on these days. "Are you in pain?"
She shook her head. She was not high on pain medication – unlike the day she got rushed to the hospital – but the remnants from her last dose were most likely still inside her blood. "I'm good. I just didn't think we were doing any detours today, since I just got released and I was ordered to keep my leg elevated if possible, ya know?" And why the heck where they heading downtown? "Are you at least telling me what you have to drop off?"
Not knowing what to answer and not wanting to keep lying to her friend, April remained silent and cranked up the radio instead. If Arizona didn't suspect anything dubious and unlawful before, she most definitely did so now. April spoke loud to be heard over the music, "I promise, I'll get you to Callie within the next fifteen minutes."
"Okay", the blonde said softly, knowing that her friend would not hear her. She leaned back into the passenger seat and blue eyes stared out the window, all the while trying to come up with the perfect idea that would knock her girlfriend off of her feet. Maybe something sexy. Callie had always loved seeing her in lingerie and surely, the scar on her thigh would not change that. Happy with her brain-storming, but definitely not done, Arizona tried to relax. Tension always traveled through her whole body, and she could feel her leg becoming tight, so she tried to zone out.
"Arizona? Arizona, we're here."
"Huh?" Startling awake with an elbow softly nudging her arm and someone unbuckling her seat belt, the blonde wiped at her mouth to make sure she had not drooled. "I'm sorry, I guess I dozed off." Stretching her leg and her arms, she noticed the view in front of her. "This is not where I live, April", the blonde stated, not meaning to sound bitter or ungrateful. She just wanted to go home.
"That might be because I didn't take you home", the other woman confirmed. "But you are where you need to be." Her eyes indicated for Arizona to turn her head and see who was waiting for her by the passenger door. When she had pulled up, Callie had been pacing, and right behind her, Malia was copying her aunt. Too bad her friend had missed it. "Look", she ordered when the blonde did not understand her hint.
"Calliope?" Arizona's breath got caught in her throat and she could swear that her heart missed a beat or two. She felt the heat rise into her cheeks from what she saw through the window. There was no denying that the blonde had a thing for women in uniform, but Callie in uniform was beyond sexy. Always has been and potentially forever will be.
** flashback, Callie's graduation day **
"God, I want you out of this, right now", Arizona growled impatiently, trying to wriggle her right hand into the brunette's dress pants, failing due to the belt and the uniform's jacket. Pink lips crashed into her girlfriend's and nimble fingers moved upwards the buttons that blocked her access to Callie's skin, successfully undoing one by one. Releasing the Latina's lips, she let her hot breath wander over the exposed neck and up to her lover's ear, "I never knew what seeing you in a uniform could do to me", she whispered, "but let me tell you a secret; I got wet the instant I saw you."0
"Fuck, Arizona", Callie moaned, unable to gain control of the situation as she was at the blonde's mercy. "Let me touch you", she pleaded after delicate hands had swatted hers away from the umpteenth time, effectively blocking her hands from undressing her girlfriend. "Please."
Giving up the power she held right now was far from Arizona's mind, instead she moved her leg up so her knee came in contact with the freshly sworn-in firefighter's clad center. "Tonight, you're mine, Calliope. I want to show you how sexy you are. I want to make you feel how much I love you. And I swear, if these pants aren't off your legs within sixty seconds, you will have to get new ones on your second day as a firefighter."
The brunette swallowed hard. Arizona's assertiveness in the bedroom – or against their front door, apparently – was a surefire way to jump start her libido. Managing to maneuver her own hands between herself and her girlfriend, Callie made quick work of the belt buckle, unbuttoned and unzipped the pants the second she had access to it and grinned at her lover. After all, the slender woman's threats were seldom empty ones. "That would have been a funny conversation to have, but maybe not right at the beginning of my career, okay?"
Glancing down, pearly white teeth sank into her bottom lip when tanned legs were revealed and her hand sneaked between the brunette's skin and her panties. A grown escaped her throat the moment her fingertips found wetness collecting between Callie's legs. "I love you, so much." And with that, her fore- and middle finger thrust deep, catching her girlfriend off guard.
"Shit, Arizona." It was quick, it was rushed and hard. It was forceful yet not painful and all Callie could do was holding onto whatever she could reach. Her hips bucked on their own accord, arching into the blonde's touch and she knew it would not take long for Arizona to pull her into the abyss of bliss.
The blonde loved having her girlfriend at the mercy of her fingertips. Her thumb against a hard clit was just adding to the Latina's pleasure and when a scream erupted from plush lips, Arizona's lips curled into a smug grin. She would love the days Callie had to wear her uniform.
** end of flashback **
Opening the passenger door, Callie held out a hand for her girlfriend to take and she was pleased when the blonde unfroze and took her up on the offer. She helped the paramedic to steady herself, waiting for April to bring forth the crutches from the backseat of the car. "Are you good to stand on your own?", she asked when the red-head had slipped them under Arizona's hands. Recognizing a slight nod on an otherwise flustered Arizona, the firefighter stepped back, smiling from ear to ear and nervous beyond what she had felt on her graduation day at the same time.
Arizona had no idea what was happening. She let her eyes wander and found people from their firehouse, also wearing their dress uniforms, scattered around them. Behind her girlfriend, she noticed the gigantic building of the new courthouse with stairs leading up to it, but it didn't click in her brain as to why she was here.
Callie inhaled deeply, wrung glove-clad her fingers and eventually let go of the breath she had been holding. "Arizona, I love you. I have loved you for years and even when we were apart, my heart never stopped loving you. The day you came crashing back into my life, into our lives", she corrected herself and pulled Malia to her side, "it took me by surprise, but it was the day I finally came up for fresh air. And it's not only me. It's both of us. You are the light on our darkest days and even though we're only people, when you are around, we feel invincible. I honestly don't know what I would have done if... if I had lost you that day. Yet, everything became clear when I held you in my arms again. Arizona, I know we've been here before. And I know we've both grown and changed, but ultimately, we're still the same hearts beating for each other's. I could still kick myself for wasting all this time, but I promised you not to live in the past anymore. I don't want to waste another day not being with you." She got down on her knee and fetched the small velvety box from her pocket, opening the lid as her eyes found her lover's. "So I am asking you, Arizona Robbins, will you marry me? Today, and right now? With our friends and family as witnesses?"
The blonde had not felt the happy tears slipping from her eyes. She had tried to soak up every single word that came out of the Latina's beautiful mouth, only the death grip on the crutches keeping her upright. Blue eyes sparked with joy as her gaze found the matching wedding rings inside the box, but she had no words yet. She wondered if her heart could actually beat out of her chest, it was thumbing so fast. But when her vision cleared and she saw Callie – her wonderful, loving Calliope who wore her heart on her sleeve – just stared at her, worriedly nibbling at her full bottom lip, Arizona spoke, "You really want to marry me? Today?"
"I would love nothing more. All you have to say is 'yes', and we can go in there and the Justice of Peace will marry us", Callie confirmed. Her plan was well thought through, every little detail, ever single nuance was taken care of.
Looking down at her own clothes – sweatpants and one of Callie's hoodies that sat a little baggy on her, Arizona giggled at her attire. "I can't get married in sweats, Calliope. I look ridiculous."
"I would marry you if we were wearing trash bags, Arizona, I don't care about fancy dresses", the brunette rebutted, but decided to let the paramedic in on her planning. "But to ease your mind, April has a dress for you, if you decide that today is the day we finally start our future together. She also brought your make-up and shoes. So, all I need right now is an answer, because this ground is getting a little uncomfortable", she said with a wink, hoping that her girlfriend would put her out of her misery and uncertainty.
"Yes, Calliope, yes! A million times yes!"
It was hardly believable, but forty minutes later, Arizona looked at herself in the restroom mirror and was ready to marry to woman of her dreams. Callie had picked her favorite blue, flowing dress for her to wear. It ended just below her knees and a matching pair of ballet flats – so she would not have to deal with the struggle of coordinating crutches with high heels on – completed the look. Suddenly becoming super nervous, April had helped her with the make-up and hairdo, and now she was ready. "Am I dreaming or is this really happening?", she wondered to herself through the mirror. It was not meant to convince herself – there was no persuading needed – she was merely making sure this was not a dream.
"This is really happening, Robs", the red-head teased. "Are you ready?"
Arizona did not dignify that question with an answer. She knew she was ready, had been ready for this day since Callie asked her the first time. "I cannot believe I am about to get married on crutches", she giggled nervously. It was not how she had envisioned this day. She also had not thought that the brunette would be the one to pop the question this time around, but at the same time she was so happy that it was finally happening.
"You look gorgeous, Arizona."
Whipping her head around at the familiar voice, Arizona looked into her mother's eyes and had to fight hard to keep the tears at bay. "Momma", she breathed out. "What are you- let me guess, Calliope called?"
Nodding, the older Robbins woman stepped further into the restroom and enveloped her daughter in a warm hug, a mother's hug. "Of course, dear. Did you think Callie would not ask us for our blessings or that she would even dare marrying you without us being present? That girl has manners." She used her fingers to gently tug on the paramedic's dress as she continued, "I am so happy that you two found your way back to each other, so is your father, he is waiting outside."
Right on cue, a knock could be heard from the outside of the door. "Ladies, it's time."
April took hers and her friend's purse while Barbara Robbins opened the door for Arizona to make her way out of the restroom, her knees beginning to shake in anticipation of what was going to happen.
"Your mother is right, Arizona, you look very beautiful."
The four of them walked down the hall, always making sure that the blonde was able to keep up with them, and eventually reached their destination. Arizona peeked inside through the gap and saw her fiancée animatedly talking to her niece. She still had a hard time wrapping her mind around the fact that they were officially becoming a family.
"If you want to back out, now is your last chance", Daniel Robbins joked and got elbowed immediately into his left side by his wife.
"Never, daddy", the paramedic said with a wide smile and urged her father to open the door completely for her to enter the room. Multiple pairs of eyes fell on her and for a second, she felt insecure. Heat rushed into her cheeks. But when her own eyes landed on Callie who was walking towards her with quick steps, she relaxed. "Will you marry me like this?", she whispered as a strong arm had slipped around her waist and the brunette had gently kissed her cheek.
Callie chuckled and then answered quietly, "I told you, I'd marry you if you were wearing a trash bag. But before we can get married, there is someone that has another, urging question for you." Not elaborating any further, she led Arizona down the makeshift aisle to the row of chairs she had previously sat in with Malia, and pulled one of the chairs out for her fiancée to sit down. They had about five minutes before the Justice of peace would enter the courtroom and Malia had not stopped talking about her surprise while Arizona was getting ready.
"Hi", the young Latina beamed, as she stood straight in front of Arizona, big brown eyes switching between her aunt and the other woman. "You look really pretty", she stated coyly, fidgeting with one corner of the envelope in her hands.
"You look pretty amazing, too, Malia", the blonde countered, taking in the girl's appearance for the first time. The nine-year old looked like a mini version of her favorite firefighter, though less hardcore and tough and more adorably cute. "Did you braid your hair yourself? It looks really good", she mused, knowing that Callie could not pull off a French braid.
Grinning from ear to ear, the shorter brunette nodded rapidly. "I have this for you", Malia said and handed the envelope to the blonde. "But don't open it yet!", she added quickly. "I have a question. Well, tia Callie and I have a question." She paused and looked at her aunt. Getting the go ahead, she asked, "Will you be my legal guardian?"
Pools of crystal clear blues snapped from one pair of brown orbs to another, trying to comprehend Malia's words and searching for answers on Callie's face. "Do you... do you really want that?" How? She had missed years of Malia's upbringing and yet the older Latina was willing to put her in her care if anything were to happen to her? "Really?"
Callie nodded. "I could not dream of anyone better than you, Arizona. You have a way with her that amazes me. You didn't even think twice about taking her in after my accident, you are the one she trusts. And when I asked Malia if she were okay with you becoming her second guardian, you should have seen her face light up." Taking the blonde's empty hand in her own, she squeezed reassuringly. "Unless you don't want to, then-"
"I want to!", Arizona rushed to cut her off. "I just- I didn't know you felt this way and it makes me really, really happy." How could she be so lucky? She didn't know. But Arizona knew better than to question her happiness ever again, for it might not last forever. "It would be my honor, Malia. But darn it, Calliope, you keep making me cry today", she laughed, padding the skin under her eyes, so she would not smudge her make-up.
"Torres and Robbins wedding and appointment of guardianship?", Judge Moreno's voice pulled everyone's attention to the front, no one had realized that he had emerged from the back room. "Everybody present?"
"Yes, your honor", Callie replied and helped Arizona to stand up again and took the envelope from her, giving the other woman full control of the crutches as they slowly walked towards the center of the room. She tucked her uniform's cap and the envelope between her torso and arm and faced her fiancée. "You ready?", she whispered and smiled when she received a nod of confirmation from the blonde. Handling the crutches over to Mark, she took Arizona's hands into her own, both knowing that Callie would never let her fall.
"Have a seat, please."
The blonde's parents had watched the scene unfold from behind the couple, and while Barbara was still drying her tears with a tissue, Daniel quietly led his wife to one of the seated rows, followed by April and the rest of their firehouse 22 family. Malia allowed Meredith to pull her onto her lap, Zola already sitting in her father's. Everyone they cherished one way or another was present to celebrate this day with them.
"Are both, Calliope Torres and Arizona Robbins unimpaired of drugs, alcohol or any other influencing substances?"
Both women answered in unison, "Yes, your honor."
"And are both, Calliope Torres and Arizona Robbins here on their own free will?"
Again, both women truthfully confirmed, yet neither believing they had made it this far. Had anybody told them months ago that they would be standing here today to get married, Arizona would have cried her eyes out and Callie would have wanted to drown her sorrow and anger in beer and a bottle of Heaven's Door Whisky.
"By the power invested in me by the state of Washington, I ask you to sign here and here, and here and here", the Justice said and turned the pages around for the two women to sign. "Congratulations", he said, signing the bottom line himself and pressing a seal on it. "I hereby pronounce you wife and wife." He watched the couple exchange rings and share a chaste kiss before he handed one of the copies of the marriage license to Callie and then looked at the paper in front of you. "Is one Malia Arianna Torres present?"
"Yes, your honor", the firefighter replied and then turned to her niece. "Come here, Malia." She watched as the young brunette slipped from Meredith's lap and stood beside her within a couple of strides. Callie crouched down, "Remember, all you have to do is tell the truth, okay?"
"It states here, that Calliope Torres, who holds the legal guardianship over Malia Arianna Torres wants to appoint Arizona Robbins as a second legal guardian to Malia Arianna Torres?" His eyes changed from serious to warm as he looked first from the older brunette to the blonde and then to Malia. "And do you want this, too, Malia?"
The girl nodded and then remembered that her aunt had told her that the Justice would need to hear the words. "Yes, your honor", she answered, a little intimidated by the older man, although his sternness reminded her of her grandfather. "I wish Arizona can be my guardian, too. I love her like I love my aunt."
This was no news to Callie, Malia had mentioned her fondness of the blonde to her before. But she knew Arizona was hearing this for the first time, and the gasp that left pink's lips came as no surprise to her as she handed the envelope with the paperwork inside it over to the Justice.
"And do you, Arizona Robbins, want to become a legal guardian of Malia Arianna Torres?", Justice Moreno asked while opening the envelope, even though he was pretty sure he could already see the answer in the eyes of the three people in front of him.
"I do."
Signing and sealing the application form that was now on his desk, the Justice handed it over to the blonde when he was done. "Congratulations, Misses Robbins, you are hereby appointed with the guardianship of Malia Arianna Torres", he said with a smile and stood up, everybody in the room following suit, waiting for the Justice to leave the room.
"We're married", the Latina stated happily, pulling her wife closer to her and pressing a proper, celebratory kiss to her sweet lips. "I love you."
"I love you, too, Calliope." Nuzzling her face in the crook of the firefighter's neck, Arizona blocked out everything around her for a moment and just relished in the closeness, in the love they shared and in the feeling of finally being home. "And I love you, Malia", she stated when she felt a smaller hand holding on to hers.
Reaching out to place her other hand into her aunt's, Malia looked at the two women and asked, "What are we gonna do now, tia Callie?"
Meeting the blonde's eyes over her niece's head – who had successfully wedged her way between the two women – Callie answered, "Now we go home, as a family."
THE END
AN: So, this was actually it. I hope you liked the final chapter.
